I had another company come in and tell me that the main drain pan was cracked and that it would cost $2880 to repair or I could buy a new unit costing over $8500 dollars. He went over a few issues on our older unit he found during his inspection. I never felt pressured to have the work done and so glad he resolved them on the same day. "I contacted Bluestar Air Mechanical for a second opinion after an appointment with Air One. I have a Carrier HVAC system, and the Air One technician recommended a complete system replacement, claiming the blower was bad, the furnace control board needed replacing, and that there were other issues. Since replacing the HVAC is a big investment, I wanted to get a second opinion. It was only after comparing the service from Bluestar that I realized Air One may have been pushing for a new system sale or lacked the expertise to properly diagnose and repair the actual problems. Isaac, the technician from Bluestar, spent about an hour thoroughly diagnosing and fixing the issues. He found burnt wiring in the furnace and discovered that the wrong capacitor had been incorrectly installed in the AC. Isaac replaced the burnt wiring in the furnace and the capacitor in the AC. After these repairs, my Carrier system was back up and running—without the need for a costly replacement. Bluestar, and Isaac in particular, demonstrated professionalism, expertise, and honesty. They focused on resolving the actual issues instead of pushing for an unnecessary system replacement. The major stress that comes along with having to replace an entire HVAC unit in a home is always the price, and unfortunately there isn't much that can be done about that (unless you have friends/family in the business and can get that hookup). Fortunately, when I initially purchased the home I knew that the HVAC unit was on its way out and was able to comfortably set aside the potential costs well in advance. The response that Premium Home Services offered is what made it great. Out of the three total estimates I'd requested, only Premium Home Services responded in a timely enough manner - that is to say they responded and had someone out within 24 hours. I've had experience in the past with other services where contractors responded in minutes and had folks out same-day, but I had no such expectations for a project as large as an HVAC replacement. They came out, explained what needed to be done, what they could do, and even tried to talk me out of replacing the whole unit as they would've been able to do some work to keep the current system up to save on costs. I had already decided on an entire replacement of the HVAC, but having a company provide you with options is something that, unfortunately, isn't always the case. The work took about 5-6 hours, and they worked in scorching heat and didn't seem to stop, except for the necessary water breaks. They cleaned up very well, they were very respectful of the interior of my home, and were very patient with the questions I had. I definitely recommend these guys."
