"We hired Koontz Construction to replace the front stoop of our 1920’s Cleveland Heights house. Our stoop was larger and more complex compared to those on most other homes in the Heights and the job was made even more complicated because we wanted to incorporate into the top some granite slabs that match granite I’ve installed on a side porch and the rear entrance to the house. Koontz did a beautiful job; they weren’t fazed by our unusual and very detailed requirements for how various elements of the stoop, like the mortar and the pattern of the brick, should look (in part to match the rest of the house) and they did much more work on constructing the foundation and interior structure of the stoop than I had expected. This included pouring a foundation under the entire structure, not just under the walls which I noticed another company doing a few houses down from us while Koontz was working on our project. The crew was courteous and professional throughout and the owner was meticulous in his craftsmanship and kept us well-informed of their work schedule. On top of all of this, their price was slightly lower than two competing bids I had solicited. As ‘icing on the cake’, while they were working on our stoop, I asked if they might also replace several sections of badly heaved (due to tree roots) front sidewalk. They agreed to add this to the scope of the project for an additional $1100, about half the price I was quoted last year for this same work. It was, of course, more cost-effective for Koontz Construction because they were already involved in concrete work at the house, but they did an excellent job on the sidewalk, too, elegantly curving it around a large tree to minimize damage and perfectly matching the finish to the remaining sidewalk slabs. I highly recommend Koontz Construction!"

"Called for an estimate and they came out within two weeks.  From estimate to installation it was another two weeks.  Two men came out removed the old steps, installed new cement base blocks for steps to rest on and then installed the steps.  They carefully measured and leveled the installation as well as caulked exposed seams.  Very professional job.  New steps are much easier to use than old ones.  Would highly recommend. <br />"

"One screw type pier installed. 2 workers hand dug hole below bottom of foundation. Cleaned out under foundation for platform. Although foundation was deeper than I thought, the hole was done much better and quicker than I envisioned. Pier was screwed at bottom of hole with a hydraulic motor. Once limit on hydraulic pressure was reached, the pier was cut at proper level, platform installed, and cracked section of foundation was raised with a hydraulic jack. Crack in stonework closed up nicely without going too far and creating additional cracks. Workers had 5 and 15 years experience doing this work. Very professional and did a very nice job every step of the way. Note that I (homeowner) chose to move and reinstall landscaping stones and gutter drain. Also, tuckpointing/repairing the cracks was not included in the quote. I plan to do that myself at a later date."

"Was very professional and thorough. Some of our foundation blocks were crumbling and the mortar between them was in bad shape. One of the foundation blocks needed to be completely replaced. He managed to find a matching block to replace that one. Repaired all of the crumbling blocks and mortar. Overall the repairs look great and blend nicely on our old house."

"We had a complete tear down and rebuilding of our chimney that had severe degradation of the brick.    We researched various masonry companies and chose Lance Hodgkinson's company because of his knowledge of overall construction and roofing, as well as his expertise in chimney rebuilding.   There was a waiting period before he was available because of his heavy project load, but it was well worth it:    The job was done A++++    The crew took great care to build the scaffolding to protect the gutters, shingles and landscaping, so there was no damage to roof, gutters, or shingles.  The flashing was fine also.  .   There was no construction debris left where it should not be;  the crew made sure they cleaned up after each work day.   Everybody was pleasant and hardworking and took pride in their work.  The chimney was built with brick that appears to be of better quality than the original brick, with the color matching the existing brick near the foundation of the house.  Lance's method is to build the chimney so that the top flares out to prevent large amounts of rain from running down the chimney sides, which helps prevent spalling.  Overall the job was done professionally with a concern for quality, as opposed to speed.    <br /> In the end, for people who want a mason who is available immediately with a quick turnaround period, you might want to look elsewhere..   But if you can afford to wait a few weeks and want a nice looking, high quality chimney rebuild that will probably last a long time, then this is a company to consider. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"All went very smoothly, no delays, no problems. They were willing to check out stones left at my daughter's house and evaluate them for me. We decided not to re-use those and were glad because the stones Vagner provided were so gorgeous (subtley marbled). They helped me decide how wide, where to put the steps, etc. They worked efficiently and the end result is perfect. Not the cheapest estimate but the quality was worth the price. <br />"

"Absolutely the best experience from start to finish! Responsiveness from office staff and estimator delivered all star customer service and follow through. Answered every question, responded to every phone call and email in a timely manner. The work crew Chance and Nathan EXTREMELY knowledgeable, helpful, professional, respectful and offered additional suggestions to even further improve our concrete challenges. They worked tirelessly and delivered a perfect outcome which exceeded out expectations. The second work crew came and completed clean up and worked until it was complete, even into the dark. We didn’t need to clean up ANYTHING! I would highly recommend this company. Thank you!"

FAQs for brick or stone siding: install or completely replace projects in Middlefield, OH

Brick siding offers numerous advantages, including high durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and lasting for generations. It provides natural insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures year-round. Brick is fire-resistant, improving home safety, and reduces external noise for a quieter indoor environment. Its timeless aesthetic appeal boosts curb appeal and can increase your home's resale value.

Yes, you can add brick to an existing house. One option is to remove the current siding and install full brick masonry, which involves laying traditional bricks with mortar for a solid brick exterior. Alternatively, you can opt for brick veneer siding, a thinner layer of real or manufactured brick applied over the existing structure. Brick veneer is typically more affordable and easier to install while still providing the aesthetic benefits of brick. Both methods can enhance your home's appearance and value.

Yes, installing brick siding often provides a significant return on investment. With an average ROI of around 77%, and some returns exceeding 80%, brick siding enhances curb appeal, energy efficiency, and longevity, making your home more attractive to potential buyers and potentially increasing resale value.

Brick siding is known for its exceptional longevity, often lasting over 100 years when properly maintained. Regular maintenance, like repointing mortar joints, ensures its durability over time. Brick veneer, while thinner than full brick masonry, is durable and can last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Both options offer long-lasting protection and value for your home.

When choosing brick siding, consider your budget, as costs can vary depending on brick type and installation method. Also, consider your desired aesthetic; different bricks offer various colors, textures, and styles to complement your home's architecture. Installation time and complexity are factors, with options like brick veneer being quicker and less labor-intensive than full brick masonry. Additionally, assess the maintenance requirements and durability to select the best option for your long-term needs.

Alternatives to brick siding include vinyl siding, which is cost-effective and low-maintenance and offers a variety of colors and styles. Wood siding provides a natural, classic look but requires more upkeep to prevent weather damage. Fiber cement siding is durable and can mimic the appearance of wood or masonry without the high maintenance. Each alternative has its own advantages, so consider factors like budget, aesthetics, and maintenance when making your choice.
