"We had a problem with squirrels getting into our house.  Pest control company did an examination of the house and noticed a loose screen on the chimney and a vent that wasn't working properly. <br /> We called Dillman Bros.  The office manager was extremely helpful, but we did have difficulty getting one of the actual guys doing the work to get a hold of us.  Granted, we needed a quick turnaround, but it did take more additional phone calls than we expected. <br /> Once we heard back from them, the process went very smoothly.  Someone came out and examined the chimney and identified that the screen was completely damaged.  He left because he needed to purchase the replacement screen. <br /> He came back a day or two later and swapped out the screen on the chimney.  He also blocked entry into the vent with long nails, so squirrels could no longer enter through the opening. <br /> We have moved from the home, so I can't say that the squirrels are no longer getting into the house, but we were pleased with the appearance of the work.  The new screen looked good on the chimney and the use of nails to prevent entry into the vent was a cheap, practical way to take care of that matter. <br />"

"I think it was very nice of them to come out knowing the situation that we've had mixed messages between 2 different people and we told them what we were just wanting and they agreed to come out and do a free inspection knowing there was a chance that they wouldn't get any work out of it. I think they were really nice and helpful and seemed honest and trustworthy."

"He was the best I have ever had to get things done and he never tried to trick me, yell or force me to sign or do anything that <br /> I didn't want to.  He was very much up and up. <br /> <br /> Since this was a rental home, I wasn't at the house but knew from pics what it looked like before and saw what it looked liked <br /> after.  Jeff gave me the disk of before, I took pics after for insurance if needed.  Now, that was the way to get things done and I <br /> felt safe with him in my home as I am a senior and have had some men yell, try and foced me to sign my name and enven  <br /> threatened  me in their own way.  Sad that a senior can't trust men to work for a living and do it well. "

"excellent, when problems arose with the old sink and the weight of the tile on the countertop, they reinforced the cabinet walls for just the cost of materials. Even with the extra repairs they still finished the job ahead of schedule, and on budget. The workers were very friendly and professional, and were quick to answer any questions that I had. I am having them come back in the spring to build a flagstone patio and firepit in my back yard."

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Murphysboro, IL

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
