"WOW! I'm elderly and have hired dozens of handymen over the years! Mike is one of the best (if not the very best) I've ever employed! Mike is prompt, resourceful, hard working, diligent, dependable, and over the last couple of weeks shown to be smart, responsive and always polite. I have yet to challenge him with a project (and there have been several) that he has not done to my total satisfaction. I will gladly share more detail. BTW: I accidentally met Mike three weeks ago at the Home Depot check-out line where he kindly offered to help load some purchases in my trunk, so this recommendation isn't coming from a relative or acquaintance......this young man is outstanding!"

"Pro Builder (Mark and his father Phil) constructed a 40'X60' (more or less) barn for me a few years back. They did the WHOLE job, and they did it well. I did not want to deal with subcontractors so Pro Builder handled all of that for me and they were completely transparent about their subs, and what the costs were. I basically wanted to have them do it all - I travel for work - and they did. Again - really well. The project (pictured on their website I think) involved design of the building (subject to my approval), plan and elevation drawings of the structure, clearing and prepping the site for construction (tree removal and gravel work), onsite construction of engineered uprights, sinking uprights, various framing, installation of windows and stairs, outsourcing of custom and engineer certified rafters, insulation work, metal work, cement work, and some electrical work (the only part I handled). Phil and Mark shared subcontractor invoices with me, presented (hardcopy) monthly progress reports (dollars spent against budget), and formalized all change orders such that all costs/schedule concerns were understood. I knew everything I needed to know for the project to continue to move forward. I would (and have) recommend Pro Builder to _anyone_ that asks, these guys are great. They "get it" when it comes to customer service and satisfaction and obviously also with skillset and craftsmanship."

"Overall the project turned out fine but there was a severe lack of communication from the beginning. This project consisted of turning a very large bedroom closet into a bathroom so it was a "from scratch" project. They worked during the day when no one was home and they went so fast that too much progress was made in one day to even discuss issues that came up (and he never called to ask or confirm anything). For example, our shower and a closet were planned to both be against one wall. I told him that i wanted a linen closet but the dimensions were never discussed. I also told him that I wanted a bench in the shower. I came home from work one day and the whole thing was already framed and dry walled and the closet was much larger than I had wanted. However, since he had already done everything, it was too late to make it smaller and increase the size of the shower (which could have been much larger). The layout should have been discussed in detail before he even started. The issue was that now there wasn't enough room in the shower for a bench--which I wanted much more. He told me that the closet was "standard size" but in reality it was custom since it was built from scratch. If he had told me that before he started, I would have requested a smaller closet to make room on the wall for a shower large enough for a bench. It would have been extra work on his part but I would have paid for it and I would have been a lot happier. The other big thing was that he charged $3,500 to install a tile shower because he said it was "very technique sensitive" and the person needs to be specially trained to do it right. I came home from work while it was being tiled and the worker told me that this was the first one he had ever done!!! He was obviously just hiring whoever off the street with no experience and then charging me for some fictitious expertise that was supposedly necessary to "do this right." The last straw dealt with the bathroom vanity. First, no communication was made as to what kind of vanity to buy. I searched and searched and ended up buying one that didn't work with his plumbing. The plumbing was installed off center to the right and therefore we needed a vanity with the drawers on the left--this was never communicated to us. We ended up buying and bringing home a vanity with drawers on the right. When questioned about this he said "well I though that was pretty obvious to you guys." We hired him as a contractor to direct the flow of the project and he shouldn't have assumed anything as this was our first home project. We had to take the old vanity back to Home Depot and find another one. The last straw was when they almost threw away my bathroom vanity shelf during the install. It was in the bottom of the box and no one bothered to see if it was even there--I found it in the bottom of the box in the trash (which was on the curb) and brought it back in that evening after I came home from work and inspected the progress in the bathroom. Had I not looked inside the cabinet, it would be in the landfill right now. He did a very poor job of communicating with us in general and it created a lot of problems along the way. I like the bathroom but every time I get in the shower, I wish there was a bench and there isn't.. Had he done a better job of communicating with me, there would be one and that's a bummer. He oversold himself to justify charging a certain amount of money and acted like he was employing people that had "special skill" for certain aspects of the project when in reality, they were amateurs. Bottom line is that the work was fine but there are major communication issues and he is not good at directing you through the process and making sure he is doing what you want. His prices are reasonable and if I was to work with him again (which I probably wouldn't), I would be sure to discuss the specifics of EVERYTHING down to the minute details. The problem is that as a customer, you don't always know what to ask so you rely on the contractor to guide you through the process. He definitely didn't do this and because of that, I would go with someone else in the future."

FAQs for outdoor kitchen building service projects in New Albany, IN

Building your own pizza oven can be a cost-effective option if you already possess the necessary firebricks or materials and have the skills to complete the project. When you have the required supplies on hand, you save on material costs and labor fees. However, if you need to source every component, a pre-made kit may not deliver the same savings.

Fire bricks are engineered to withstand the high temperatures generated inside a pizza oven, protecting the structure from cracking or spalling. Standard bricks can fail under intense heat, potentially damaging the oven and creating safety risks. By using true fire-rated bricks, homeowners maintain consistent cooking temperatures, preserve the oven’s structural integrity, and reduce the likelihood of costly repairs. The modest increase in material cost is offset by longer service life and safer operation.

An optimal pizza oven installation positions the opening exactly between 36 and 48 inches above the ground to guarantee clear visibility and safe, comfortable access. This height optimizes heat distribution and ergonomic use. In addition, dome height can vary: shorter domes produce the signature soft, charred crust of Neapolitan pies, whereas taller domes are ideal for generating the robust baking environment required for New York–style pizzas.
