"The work was done in a professional manner. They were friendly and willing to answer questions about the work. The company handled all permits and scheduling the county inspector to come and clear the job. It completely cleared up the leaking problem in the basement, and the foundation is good for the rest of the house's live. They cleaned up really well, there was no dust problem, and in the area they dug a trench, they even reseeded the lawn with grass seed. We were very happy with the work and feel like we are safe from any more foundation problems."

"Brian Holder of Classic Construction managed the renovations of my family room addition and kitchen.  He did an outstanding job at a great price.  I can't believe how much better my house looks thanks to Brian.  Brian is an expert on all aspects of remodels, including design and implementation.  Everything happened just as Brian said it would, and Brian made me feel like I was his only client even though I know he was simultaneously working with other clients at that time.  I will definitely be calling Classic Construction in the future to handle any home renovations or additions to my home.  If you're looking for someone who is trustworthy, honest, skilled and hard-working, call Brian at Classic Construction. <br />"

"Chris showed up for our estimate on time. He was very knowledgeable and spent allot of time going over my crawl space and giving me his thoughts on what we needed. He came back the next day with his boss Greg to make sure I didn't have any structural issues that needed addressed. We decided to hire them and 3 weeks later the crew arrived. They were punctual and hard working. There were a total of about 7 guys that came out to work on our project it took a week one day was affected by bad weather. It's only been a day but so far I couldn't be happier. I love knowing that I have a dry crawl space and my family is living in a healthier home. I would hire them again in a minute. I really professional company that has a life time warranty that they stand behind."

"Justin was terrific to work with.  They arrived as scheduled and took no short cuts.  Care was taken to protect our furnishings.  Trim and ceiling were carefully taped off.  The walls were prepped by filling nail holes and sanding down imperfections.  The finish is beautiful.  Their clean up was as meticulous as their painting.  Thank you. <br />"

"Wonderful! We will definitely ask Miguel to handle our future repairs and projects. He's pretty busy, so it took a little bit to get on the job, but we were fine with that. If you plan to use him, just be aware that he has a lot of work, and you may need to wait a little ? but it?s well worth it! <br /> Miguel came out and walked around the house, then walked with me to go over areas that I knew needed to be fixed. He also pointed out some areas I had missed, and gave me options on how to fix those problems as well. <br /> We knew that when the bad siding was pulled off that we could expect more damage, so what little problems came up were no surprise. Miguel showed us what he and his crew were doing every step of the way. He pointed out what needed to be fixed, what did not need to be fixed, and was really helpful. <br /> I?ll have him come back to paint the house and possibly build a small shed for us. We are extremely pleased with him personally, with his team, how they were always very professional and helpful. The price, even with the extra work that needed to be done, was very fair. <br /> We?re just amazed at how he and his crew made such a difference in our house. While he was here, we had him redo the front porch as well, and we love it! It went from an entrance we were a bit embarrased to have, to one we are really proud to come home to everyday! <br /> Thanks Miguel and thanks to everyone on your crew! <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Everything was storybook! We went in and looked at carpets, selected a few and took samples home to check for color. The young man came on the appointed day to measure and took the samples back. The installation people called 2 days later to set up a date (2 weeks later) We were called on the Saturday before the date we expected them to verify delivery date. On Monday 2 men came at the time we stated and moved the large pieces of our bedroom, including taking the bed apart. Then they removed the old pad and carpeting from the bedroom, closets, stairs and hallway. They installed the new pads and carpeting. These men were efficient, pleasant and cleaned up everything after they moved all the furniture back. They did not take breaks and worked until they were finished. The best compliment I can give is that I will have them back to do the other bedrooms."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in New Kent, VA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
