"I live in a town home community, and 4 units (including mine) were experiencing the serious failure of a two-story exterior brick facade. It was becoming a dangerous situation and needed prompt attention. We met with several brick experts to diagnose the problem and discuss how to repair or replace the wall. Anderson Mason had neither the "cheapest" quote, nor was it the most expensive quote, but Mr. Anderson was the brick mason all of the neighbors trusted the most. We could immediately tell that he was very concerned about putting his name on quality craftsmanship and materials, and we are glad we hired him. When we told Mr. Anderson that we were hiring him, the neighbors were honestly a little concerned about paying half of the cost up-front, but Mr. Anderson explained the amount of materials that would need to be ordered for the project. We felt tremendously better about everything when he immediately demonstrated that he trusted us by putting significant time, labor, and costs into "shoring up" our wall to prevent a dangerous collapse before he received any money from us. Mr. Anderson saved us from an unexpected wall collapse, and he kept us informed on the status of the materials and timeline of the project. He and his team expertly dismantled the failing wall (without further damage anything), kept us informed on the status of the materials, and kept us informed in advance of when weather would affect the timeline for the project. They were able to build a brand new wall in the estimated timeline given upfront. Although no homeowner enjoys an emergency project like this, we all learned to appreciate Mr. Anderson and all of the team members he brought to work on our project. We felt we could trust all of the team with our house keys, and we knew if we left them to work all day, we would come home to see significant progress being made. They all took pride in doing quality work, and they also made us feel like part of their family. In the end, we ended up with a beautiful new brick wall that matches the other existing units as well as one could hope (considering the older walls are sixty-plus years old)--actually, our new wall looks so much better than the old walls on the neighboring units. I know that if I need brick work in the future, I have the name of someone I can call who will give me the straight story about what work needs to be done, but who will not try to sell me something I do not need. Anybody considering hiring Anderson Masonry should feel at ease knowing that they can do so without worrying about someone doing poor work or "running off" with the money. It is rare these days to find someone who cares deeply about their work and also cares about keeping their word to their customers. Mr. Anderson is one of these rare individuals. "Jim and the team were one of the only companies who actually showed up to bid, got back to use quickly and subsequently came to do the work. We had them repoint a number of areas around our home as well as sure up the footing on our brick entryway which was the main point of concern. While here they noticed the concrete cap on our chimney needed replacing and we went ahead and had them do that too. 90% of the work performed has been great, but we are 12 months on now from the initial work and the entryway continues to shift and overall break the repointing work Jim's team did. To their credit, they've been back out twice to repoint again, the first time after 6 weeks when it broke, then the work lasted about 4 months until it broke again. They didn't come back out again until several months after that and this last repair unfortunately didn't last more than a week. The repointing itself was great, it matched the color of grout on our historic home fairly well. The issue and reason for the lower star rating is that unfortunately whatever foundation work may have been done by the team did not resolve the foundation problems the entryway has and we are back on the hunt for a new company who can actually help us fix our problem."

"They were very professional and nice. I kind of felt double-teamed - two guys showed up in two separate trucks. They wanted to put 13 piers around my house to fix the problem. The price for a pier is not a bad thing but it seemed an awfully extreme fix for what I had asked them to come out for. I?ve gotten their calls weekly possibly from the guy wanting to know if we had made any decisions yet on what we were going to do. I think they are a harder sell maybe than the other ones I talked to. We have had a couple of people tell us that there is no way we need that extensive work done, so I would probably not consider using them."

"John gave me what I thought was a decent estimate that was in line with everyone else. He gave me a date for the work to be completed, but they didnt arrive on that date. On that they that they didn't arrive, I had cancelled an appointment to stay home that morning. When I called him, he was in Iowa working at his other location. When I let him know that I had cancelled an appointment to be here for the work, he said "Did we inconvenience you?" in an unfriendly tone. The crew came to do the work on a weekend. John is not a good communicator at all. John had told me that he was going to resurface the floor. I did not understand what that meant and assumed it was putting in new concrete because he did not explain it. I saw that the crew was just chopping up the floor and going to fill in the cracks. When I stopped them and contacted John, he said he had it noted down as resurfacing. When I explained to him that the he did not explain what resurfacing meant to me, he got upset and said I had to pay more. He first said the job would cost an extra $800. When I declined it, he offered the work to be done at an extra $400. After the job was complete, it was done nicely. When I advised him how many companies on Angie's List offer discounts to members, I asked what type of discount he offered. He said that he would add some decorations to the sidewalk and that was done. Also, when I saw that dirt needed to be replaced in the trenched along each side of the driveway and sidewalk, he said I would need to call someone else. I had to pay another contaractor $300 for the dirt to be filled after they finished the driveway and sidewalk. The work took three days and he only stopped by once to oversee the job and that was when we had the arguement over the garage floor. The product and quality of service was good, but the communication was bad. The workers did a good job and they worked hard. However, I would not recommend this company to someone else as I felt that dealing with John was not appropriate. He didn't offer good customer service in what I see in terms of what I feel is appropriate customer service for what a person would normally expect.
