"Fantastic! We were in a bind when my tenant called with no water. I called Randy on a Saturday afternoon, Memorial Day weekend and within a couple of hours he replied that he would be there first thing in the morning...ON A SUNDAY!! Sure enough, he and his dad showed up around 8am, assessed the problem (old worn out well pump and leaking pressure tank) and by 9:15 had both units replaced and working with all new electrical line run from the well head to the pump. Fair price and unbelievable service! I couldn't recommend him more enthusiastically! I'll definitely be calling him for some new construction projects we have going."

"Our water stopped running on a Sunday and we called late in the day. Chad (military veteran) and Liam came Monday morning. They found a severed/fried wire that they were able to repair within minutes. They were trustworthy, knowledgeable, informative, fast, friendly, and affordable. We feel lucky to have found them and will continue to hire them for any future well/pump services!"

"I am quite satisfied with their promptness, professionalism, very competent work and work knowledge. I needed response to an emergency repair since I had no heat and the weather forecast included below zero weather. The were able to do an emergency response and efficiently diagnosis and repair the problem. It would highly beneficial to me if they incorporated a fixed price service agreement for annual inspection along with a fixed price emergency call rate. Their excellent discount program for program members is worth the fee of being a member."

"I cannot say enough good things about Main Choice Inspections. I took the first time homebuyer course at Avesta Housing in Portland and the owner of MCI, Bill Heath, took time out of his day to come speak to us. He was very thorough in describing what he and his team often see during inspections and gave us a lot of information, with photo examples, to consider during the homebuyer process. This information was invaluable, and when we went under contract on a house we knew we had to call MCI to perform an inspection on our future home. What struck me about Bill as he talked is that he is just a normal guy who cares about others. He wants his customers to be aware of all of the issues with their future homes ahead of time so that nobody is taken by surprise when something bad happens. I understood the value of a good home inspection prior to hearing Bill speak, but he really emphasized just how important it is and it was very obvious that he is passionate about what he does. One thing to note is that in the state of Maine, there is no requirement to have a home inspection performed prior to buying, nor is there any sort of certification that home inspectors must have in order to be considered an inspector. Prior to the Avesta class I was unaware that this was the case so this was a real eye opener. I’ve had friends and coworkers purchase houses and have inspections done, only to find that the inspector missed something that ended up costing them thousands. MCI inspectors are certified based on international standards and that is very obvious when you observe them on the job. MCI certainly isn’t cheap. We chose the full package, which cost us over $1000, but after meeting and speaking with Bill at the class we felt that MCI gave us the best opportunity to learn everything we needed to know about the house we decided to purchase. We were not disappointed one bit and were actually blown away at how thorough and detailed our two inspectors were. We were able to walk around every inch of our house, both outside and inside, and learn about potential risks and the severity of each. Our agent, and a family friend, also tagged along and they were just as blown away with MCI as we were. Our agent on multiple occasions stated that he had never seen such a thorough home inspection and that he would recommend MCI to all of his customers going forward. I would certainly agree. A few days later we received a 60+ page report complete with photo evidence of every issue they found along with steps to take in order to resolve each and every one. I cannot stress enough how impressed we were with MCI, and that $1000 price tag suddenly looked much smaller. Six months in, I’m following our inspection report as my home improvement bible and I still haven’t encountered an issue that MCI didn’t see. I hope they continue to perform outstanding work and if I ever buy another home I will absolutely be calling MCI for their services."

"It turned out exceptionally well! They showed up when they said they would show up. They quoted a price and stuck to it. They did the work when they said they would do it. They came out for routine maintenance check when they said they would and they did it. They gave us all the time we needed to talk to them. So they were exceptional. Their price was fantastic."

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

FAQs for well pump repair or service projects in Newfield, ME

A standard well inspection begins with a visual inspection of the pump, casing, storage tank, and wiring, followed by flow rate tests and laboratory-based water sampling. The goal is to confirm that every part meets safety standards and to identify any necessary repairs before they become expensive. An inspector will also test your water quality for substances such as volatile organic compounds and any local containment concerns.

Book a licensed, insured well specialist for your inspection. Many well‑pump contractors also hold inspection credentials. They’ll bring the right tools to assess the pump, wiring, and water quality, and provide you with a clear report on any necessary fixes. Before you hire, confirm their license, insurance, and recent customer reviews.

Plan on a full well inspection every year. You’ll also want one any time the cap comes off, after septic repairs, or if flooding occurs. Annual tests look for total and fecal coliform; every two years, the lab should screen for metals and nitrates, and every five years for VOCs and pesticides. If you’re buying a home with a private well, it’s essential to schedule a pre-purchase inspection.

With routine care, most wells supply clean water for up to 40 years. Lifespan depends on the type and how well you protect it. To help it reach the maximum lifespan, keep hazardous products far from the casing, ensure the cap stays sealed, schedule yearly inspections, and address problems as soon as they appear. Good habits keep the system healthy and the water safe.

The average cost of well repairs ranges from $100 to $2,800. Your final bill depends on which part—pump, pressure tank, casing, or piping—needs attention and the level of complexity involved in the repair. A thorough inspection identifies the problem, allowing you to budget accurately and avoid paying for unnecessary parts or services.
