"My sump pump stopped working, it was making humming sound, but did not get the water out.
Called Dave from Twin City Pipeworks...he is very responsive and was generous to come by within a couple of hours.
Initially he thought the sump pump had gone bad and we need to replace sump pump. He had a cast iron sump pump with him quoted me ~$200 for the pump and and ~$200 for the labor and gave me a total quote of $398 for the job...When we went on the replace the pump, later he found the check valve was stuck.. The check valve was installed at the hose connection all the way at the bottom. Dave removed that check valve and added a new one outside the sump pump ie now it is visible on the
pipe. Check valve replacement fixed the issue.
Cost: Labor of $64 for the service call, $130 for about an hour's labor, ~20$ for the part, the total cost was $214. 
I think Dave knew what he was doing and did the job well, but I felt the rate was a bit on the high end. This is the first time I had to call a plumber and I was expecting labor of ~100$ total, but maybe my expectation was wrong. I will use him again, if can't do it myself or can't use cheaper option.
