"We were looking for a structural engineer to help us with our home renovations as we wanted to remove a load bearing wall. Juan was wonderful to work with! He was so kind and patient in explaining everything. We don’t know anything about this process so he took all the time we needed to answer all of our questions in a way for us to understand. He responds very promptly through text and calls. The price he quoted us was also much more reasonable than some other quotes we got. I would definitely recommend working with him!"

"From the get go I was impressed with Ed's engineering knowledge, his ability to assess structural and materials issues, and his ability to explain the necessary procedures for an optimal outcome. Unlike other contractors who might avoid the inconveniences of working on an historic mid 19th century house, Ed welcomed the opportunity and took immense pride in stabilizing and preparing it for the next 100 plus years. His crew was skilled, punctual, and very pleasant taking great care in the construction and clean-up process. Ed was also very generous with his expertise on maintaining the house, assuring us that he could be called upon for council or to address any future concerns. His company is far beyond professional - they are house whisperers!"

"They did a fantastic job putting down a new vinyl-plank floor in the basement, as well as repairing sections of the drywall and painting the walls, doors, and frames/moldings. They even replaced the handrail on the stairs that was falling out of the wall with a new one that they were able to match to the color of the floor. The cost was among the lowest of the quotes we received, yet the work was still excellent. They were easy to work with throughout and were even very easy-going when minor changes were requested or needed due to the project. I cannot recommend them enough!"

"I have used Structureline few time in the past It all begins with a bathroom Remodeling when I used to live in Jersey City... I Hired them Based on recommendations and good reviews... The story was that at that time 2009 I couldn't find a good Licensed Contractor to get the management  board approval in my building, because of the high requirements.. And my sister Gina give me the contact information of Structureline as certified contractor.. After they pass the board they did the bathroom remodeling and I was very happy with their results... After I moved to Brooklyn my husband said that would be nice to hire a contractor  to do a extension to the house.. After we received several bids from different contractors even that the price was a little higher we decided to go with Structureline because we already knew their work.. Nicolas advised us to build a second floor instead of the back extension and we thought that is a brilliant idea and went for it... <br /> To tell the truth the construction took longer then we expected .....a lot of paperwork, inspections for framing , plumbing  we did received a violation because we haven't  used the scaffolding  properly weather conditions etc... <br /> But we know that Nicolas did the best to finished and we do appreciate that... My husband was very happy wen the construction was completed, a lot of closets room, master bathroom, Large windows , big living room and huge living room... <br /> I really liked bout their renovations that the walls a straight and smooth like glass, defiantly is recommended to see .... <br />"

"I contacted Peter of Pantec Engineering regarding a couple of items. First, to review the structural integrity of my newly constructed Brooklyn condo recently purchased, which came back fine. The second was following a flood in my finished basement after a tropical storm in June 2021. Peter visited my property on a Saturday afternoon and conducted a thorough investigation of the plumbing in my condo including reviewing the building plans. He uncovered a major oversight on the how the plumbing was installed. Topline, the water from the roof was being exited by way of sump pump, which is a significant deviation to code. Peter followed up with a comprehensive and detailed report which I was able to take to my board to gain financial support to fix the problem. He made himself available throughout the process including phone calls, texts, and joining a board condo meeting. He offered consultative recommendations with a patient and professional demeanor. He even was able to recommend vendors to fix the problem after my condo’s management company failed to supply vendors willing to perform the work. The plumbing was fixed less than 24 hours before Ida hit NYC and I was able to prevent what would have been catastrophic damage to my property. I highly recommend Peter for a professional independent assessment that requires expertise of a structural engineer."

"Excellent inspector, very thorough, and not afraid to dig below the surface to see what might be hiding. Definitely a good guy to have on hand for looking at an old Brooklyn building. If you're into history and engineering, he's also got a lot of knowledge about why things the are the way they are in different types of buildings from different eras. Very interesting to talk to."

"I had a great experience planning the design of my second story addition!! The architect was great at capturing my needs and vision and provided me with suggestions to maximize the space and make it functional. Her suggestions were modern and gave the space a clean cut feel while making it cozy and inviting. She also modified a few things upon request to ensure I stuck to budget without losing my vision for the space. The whole process was explained from beginning to end with timelines and things to expect. I would totally recommend!!!"

FAQs for engineer structural projects in North Babylon, NY

To determine if a wall is load-bearing, start by checking your home’s original plans or asking a structural engineer. Exterior walls always carry weight, but interior ones only do if they sit over a beam or run perpendicular to floor joists. If a wall lines up with posts in the basement or falls directly under the roof ridge, assume it’s load-bearing and call a professional before attempting to remove it with a sledgehammer.

Calculating the wall load and sizing the beam must be performed by experts to ensure structural safety. You need a structural engineer to evaluate all load aspects and determine the proper beam dimensions. A professional engineer performs precise calculations and advises on any necessary enhancements, such as larger footings for support. An inspector then verifies that the revised structure meets all safety and code regulations before the finishing work begins.

Hiring a structural engineer is essential for ensuring your home remains structurally sound during any major renovation. Their responsibility is to deliver expert assessments and design recommendations for load-bearing modifications. The average cost to hire a structural engineer is $500, with rates ranging from $350 to $800. Consulting a licensed, experienced engineer guarantees that every structural project, whether constructing a new home or remodeling an existing one, is completed safely and efficiently.

Almost all load-bearing wall removals require a permit as they support everything above it, and building departments want proof that the new beam can handle the weight. Pulling a permit triggers plan review and inspections that confirm the work meets local code and safety standards. Skipping this step can lead to fines or being forced to rebuild later, so have your contractor pull the permit before work starts.

Removing a load-bearing wall to create an entrance for a carport or covered patio is a task that comes with defined cost implications. This modification requires extra structural adjustments to ensure safety and proper integration with the adjoining space. When you convert a wall into an entryway, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. The additional work required for this conversion reinforces the home’s integrity and ensures compliance with applicable building codes.
