"They were very helpful on advising on specifications. In general, I found roofers specifying roof replacement the cheapest way possible rather than what is most cost effective long-term. Once, I got multiple contractors matching on specs, GF was clearly cost competitive, particularly given no subcontractor usage. Actual install was smooth except for two things. It took more time than they budgeted for, but they handled that well and didn't try to ask for extra payment. Second, they discovered that the backing of the house's original aluminum siding was rotten when they were installing new flashing. Understandably, they didn't want to put it back up as is (which I can appreciate). Thankfully, they were able to provide a cost effective answer regarding new siding, as I didn't want to have to big that out with everything already torn up."

"One way, and in our opinion, the best way to answer the question of "how did it go overall?" is to know that, in the end, we got exactly the product we signed up for, and that the quality of the workmanship was very high. Anybody that has experienced a major renovation understands that the best laid plans are often led astray, and our experience did have its share of hiccups, which cumulatively led to a project which broke through the anticipated time and money budgets. The reasons for this are manifold, but the big three were 1. surprises that were found when opening up the walls/floors of our old home 2. delays in getting the necessary blessings/permits from the various city departments and inspectors 3. growing pains of Idea +Build (we were one of, if not the first build project that the firm tackled.) Before expounding on those growing pains, we think it is important to re-emphasize that these are just that, growing pains, and we truly believe that future clients would probably have smoother sailing overall. Like we said, the final product is A quality. The problems that we had with the firm along the way ultimately had to do with breakdowns in communication, both between the 2 guys who at various points were heading up our renovation, and also, at points, between them and the various subcontractors. To their credit, when mistakes were made, they owned up to them and shared costs accordingly. Where we wish they had done a better job, and what future clients should firmly request, is to have one go to guy head up the project from start to finish. It will avoid a lot of miscommunication as the project proceeds. All in all, we have a house that clearly made the most of its space, in the style that we want, and with high quality workmanship."

"I hit the jackpot finding Fil & Thor Build. I live between Chicago and another state and wanted to complete my project while I was away, to avoid having to live through the construction. I had quotes from a couple of other contractors, all provided half baked quotes and were slow to respond to my emails. I contacted Thor Build online and got a return call from Fil soon after my initial inquiry. We made an appointment and Fil showed up as scheduled and was quick to send me an estimate as promised. Throughout the entire project Fil kept me updated on the progress. His communication is by far the best that I've experienced with any contractor. The project went smoothly and all of my questions were answered promptly. I also had a couple of additional small requests, which Fil gladly accommodated. "It went very well.  The employees have a fine attention to detail.  I ordered some moulding product online.  And had hoped to install  it myself ( I sometimes consider myself handy) Fortunately, I hired them! It would of been a nightmare for me and a project I would of never finished.  They noticed that the moulding thickness was not the same across all the pieces that I ordered, which would of caused real issues when installing.  They were able to fix the moulding and make my formal dining room which doubles as my client meeting room GORGEOUS! Quickly they moved onto the stair reconstruction.  I love it!!!
They were on-time everyday and cleaned up the mess every evening before they left. They were courteous, professional and knowledgeable of each project and offered alternative solutions to some of the hiccups we had along the way.
