"Bricks along one side of our attached garage fell from an outside wall after a car struck a corner of the house next to the garage. Not only brick, but also the wood underlay, needed replacement. I requested some estimates on my own, but estimates from those recommended by Robert seemed most reasonable, and I chose them. Once those steps had been completed, Robert's Masonry completed the last step of replacing the outside layer of brick next to the garage door and also extending partway along the outside wall. I definitely would select Robert's Masonry and Repair for any masonry project. Not only was he professional and knowledgeable, but he also kept us informed every step of the way."

"Olsen has twice replaced the mortar on our patio steps. The first time work was completed in less than two hours, which seemed quick considering the amount of steps and price charged. About 12 months later the mortar began to crack and fall out again. Olsen completed the second repair as part of their warranty on work completed. Update: Fast forward another year, and the mortar is cracking and falling out again. Upon further investigation it was determined the problem was with the original installation of steps five years earlier by builder. Given that the original cracking started to appear two years after installation by builder, Olsen should have known this was not a normal tuckpointing job since that is their business and expertise, especially when they had to come out and redo their work under a warranty guarantee. Ultimately had to have stones removed completely and installed again with different mortar and adhesive. Olsen did not do this work as their bid was 25% more than other bid I received. I would potentially hire Olsen again, but would do my own due diligence on the potential project and not rely on Olsen for figuring things out."

"Principal task was to redo work done by previous owner or tenant on decorative brick in front of bungalow. Also needed chimney redone and miscellaneous cracks repaired and bricks replaced. Chris was on time for his appointment and provided estimate as promised.. He then came with team of three 30 minutes ahead of promised time to make sure all was in order, and the crew competed all work in one day very neatly. To get to roof, had to place ladder in neighbor’s yard after getting permission, and they were very careful of neighbor’s landscaping in doing so. Foreman suggested one additional item to complete, which was included at no extra cost. Crew was also able to reuse some of the decorative brick from the chimney in front where previous owner/tenant had badly damaged some in previous efforts, as it would have been difficult to find 95-year-old brick to match. This was also done at no additional cost. They weren’t able to remove all the damage done previously, but it looks much better. Highly recommend this group."

"I just hired Edmar to replace a glass block window in our brick house with a more modern double hung window, and they did a great job! I've also hired them in the past to rebuild our parapet and replace other old windows and the work is always great. They're easy to coordinate schedules with and the quality of work is top notch. I'll definitely be hiring them again for any future masonry projects."

"From the time I met with the sale prof., Luis, the experience was amazing. Permit was provided, all work was done when he said and he oversaw all steps and the job was (and is) PERFECT. I would not hesitate using or recommending them again."

"Scott is very professional! He called immediately and set up a free estimate. The price quoted was exactly the price paid. His team did a great job, cleaned up, matched the existing bricks very well (50+ yr old home) and explained the quality process. He communicated every step of the way! He suggested caulking two areas around the outside of my house and performed that service as well."

FAQs for brick or stone siding: install or completely replace projects in Oak Lawn, IL

Brick siding offers numerous advantages, including high durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and lasting for generations. It provides natural insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures year-round. Brick is fire-resistant, improving home safety, and reduces external noise for a quieter indoor environment. Its timeless aesthetic appeal boosts curb appeal and can increase your home's resale value.

Yes, you can add brick to an existing house. One option is to remove the current siding and install full brick masonry, which involves laying traditional bricks with mortar for a solid brick exterior. Alternatively, you can opt for brick veneer siding, a thinner layer of real or manufactured brick applied over the existing structure. Brick veneer is typically more affordable and easier to install while still providing the aesthetic benefits of brick. Both methods can enhance your home's appearance and value.

Yes, installing brick siding often provides a significant return on investment. With an average ROI of around 77%, and some returns exceeding 80%, brick siding enhances curb appeal, energy efficiency, and longevity, making your home more attractive to potential buyers and potentially increasing resale value.

Brick siding is known for its exceptional longevity, often lasting over 100 years when properly maintained. Regular maintenance, like repointing mortar joints, ensures its durability over time. Brick veneer, while thinner than full brick masonry, is durable and can last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Both options offer long-lasting protection and value for your home.

When choosing brick siding, consider your budget, as costs can vary depending on brick type and installation method. Also, consider your desired aesthetic; different bricks offer various colors, textures, and styles to complement your home's architecture. Installation time and complexity are factors, with options like brick veneer being quicker and less labor-intensive than full brick masonry. Additionally, assess the maintenance requirements and durability to select the best option for your long-term needs.

Alternatives to brick siding include vinyl siding, which is cost-effective and low-maintenance and offers a variety of colors and styles. Wood siding provides a natural, classic look but requires more upkeep to prevent weather damage. Fiber cement siding is durable and can mimic the appearance of wood or masonry without the high maintenance. Each alternative has its own advantages, so consider factors like budget, aesthetics, and maintenance when making your choice.
