"Marc and his team at Exotic Pavers completed, on a time, a fantastic paving job. Due to erosion, all the pavers had to be replaced in our front and back yards. The team was courteous, responsive to my requests, and careful with our landscaping and lawn. Marc offered great aesthetic recommendations, and estimated the job quite accurately. I had received 4 other bids for this job, and Marc's estimate and proposal was the most thorough. I would absolutely hire them again!"

"Professional conduct : driver called before arrival and arrived when he said that he would. Dropped mulch exactly where I wanted it and avoided hitting electrical wires/garage. The mulch is finely shredded, nicely scented, easy to disperse, and attractive. My yard looks considerably more attractive with this mulch. <br />"

"<p>Excellent / professional company.  You get what  you pay for with these guys.  They are more pricey than their competitors, but they do the job right and you can be sure you are getting work that will last. Several of our neighbors had used them previously and told us to just pick Allied if we want it done correctly and stop wasting your time (i.e. we only had to look at their completed jobs and how they were aging to know what we were getting for our dollar).</p> <p> </p> <p>We had a grading issue and were VERY VERY CONCERNED and specific as to how we wanted the water to flow.  Ken the Allied Engineer / Sales Rep was extremely helpful and we consulted him multiple times before agreeing on the work to be completed.  He went above and beyond in trying to help us with our problem and offering his advice / support.  He spent a lot of time with us to understand the specific problem and to be certain their work would help or correct the situation.  The driveway was completed quickly and everything looks great!  Best of all our concerning grading / water flow issue has now been entirely solved!!  </p> <p> </p> <p>Great work Ken and the Allied crew who completed our job.  Thank you!</p> <p> </p> <p>  </p> <br />"

"Started out really good. Jim met with us, listened to our needs and preferences, and put together a solid design that met our requirements and fit in our $15K budget. Construction on our project was started and finished at the agreed-upon dates. So, what didn't we like? 1) The biggest concern was the drainage basin that was created in the front yard. A 5 x 11 pit was dug and filled with landscaping stones; then sodded over so it would not be visible. The pit receives the runoff from the downspouts, sump pump, and french drain along the side of the house. A genius idea, except the sod over the pit all died early the following season. When we called Jim he said there was no reason the grass shouldn't have grown, but he would be happy to do a proposal for a hardscape (additional cost). It wasn't until this year we dug into the dead sod and discovered the reason - the sod was laid right on top of the rocks and felt and no topsoil was used. Our voicemails on Jim's office and cell numbers, inquiring about the pit were not returned. 2) Issued reported within the one-year warranty were only partially addressed. Some areas of dead sod were replaced immediately, but a few dead plants we reported were never replaced. Joint sand that eroded on the patio was also not addressed. These were after we emailed a reminder the following spring, and were promised the issues would be fixed that season. 3) Jim said with certainty that a layer of topsoil was added in the yard before the new sod was installed. We have since dug into several places in the yard while doing later projects, and found this was not the case. 4) Jim did not seem to have an appreciation for modern irrigation systems. Though we spent the extra money to extend and improve our sprinkler system to cover all the new landscaping, Jim insisted on our hand watering every plant and bush daily for the remainder of the season, which took something like 2 hours a day of moving the hose from plant to plant. (until we added splitters on the hose to water multiple plants at once, but still a lot of effort) 5) Other than telling us to water for hours, no care instructions were provided. 6) The last couple times I have left messages on Jim's office or cell number, even with just simple questions, they were not returned. So, did we get our money's worth? Mostly, in terms of the work that was done. Some corners were cut but overall our requirements were met. But was I treated the way I would treat a customer who entrusted me with 15K of work? Given the missed warranty issues and unreturned calls, definitely not."

"Our home landscape lighting system was shabby. Multiple lights out. Broken wires. The original installer was out of business. So we asked for bids. A couple companies never called back to set an appointment. One wanted $90 just to come over and talk. Another vendor who did visit bid low but left us unimpressed when we saw nearby home installations.       <br />      Then we called Midwest Lightscapes. Bud Freed stopped by next day, listened to our needs and gave us a preliminary estimate for a whole new system using high-efficiency LED lights, Same day at dusk, he was back and spent an hour setting up a demo system display. The difference visually was like night and day compared to our old setup. <br />       Bud followed immediately with a written estimate. And within a week or so, we had our new landscape lighting in place. <br /> Midwest may not be the most inexpensive vendor going in. But given the quality of their components, energy saving solutions (75 watts vs. 400+ watts used), promptness and professionalism, we'd say they're a great value. <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Orion-township, MI

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
