"I have an approximately 1100 sq ft driveway that had a couple of stress cracks that needed to be filled and sealed. Called Sealpro after seeing their rating on Angie's list and had them come over for an estimate. Today they filled and sealed my drive and it looks like new. Great job! <br />"

"Eddie of General Brick Designs did a fantastic job building a gravel driveway at my summer house. He lives up to his rave online reviews. He is a great communicator and friendly. He is prompt and thorough. He immediately understood the look I wanted and told me how to achieve it in a way that would be easiest to maintain. He explained to me how a gravel driveway is engineered and carefully talked through the challenges of my space, which needed grading so that water wouldn’t pool in the center. Once I decided to hire him, he got to work ASAP and finished ahead of schedule. The driveway looks terrific. I know that if I have any questions or issues, I can call Eddie and he’ll respond right away. He’s now my go-to guy for masonry or paving work. I’ll encourage my friends to use him. Heck, I’d probably call him for advice on stuff unrelated to paving. He’s that good. Hire him. You won’t regret it!"

"Everything went well. The owner was knowledgeable and polite. The workers were all nice and did the work fast and clean. The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. I would refer the company to all my friends and customers looking for concrete work."

"I had them to redo my whole roof 1.5 year ago and I found a piece of shingle fell off recently. I contacted the owner and they stood behind their work and promise. He quickly scheduled a follow-up and sent his team to fix it in a short period of time. In these days you can easily find any contractors do the work and work away with your money. However once the job is done, you will never see them again when there are any issues. This will not happen to Hi Tech Contracting as they are professional, responsible and trustworthy. Highly recommended!"

"Throughout the process, Bernard and his crew were professional and courteous. They addressed any of the concerns that I raised. They showed pride in the quality of their work. Bernard had initially believed the job would take 3 weeks. Despite finding additional damage that was not known until the project progressed, the team still finished on schedule. Bernard even had a cleaning crew come in on the final day to clean all of the dust that was generated from removing the tile floor. I would highly recommend Tool Time Home Improvements and plan to use them again myself for future projects."

"Bongiorno’s Contracting did a terrific job. Chuck and CJ accommodated my schedule to discuss the project I wanted done. The job was started earlier than expected and each day the crew was here on time. They were extremely professional and neat. The wall came out beautifully and really looks terrific. Pricing was reasonable for the job. Would definitely recommend!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Oyster Bay, NY

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
