I learned the electrode was defective. Had I undertaken this project as a DIY, I would have spent more time than I would have cared to try to figure out why I could not get a flame for my water heater. I was smart to call Four Seasons. My technician figured out the problem quickly. There are times when calling a professional makes sense. I am not an expert on water heaters outside of knowing how to turn it on, clean it periodically, and knowing when I need a new one.
