"We were very happy with them. They had an A+ rating on the Better Business Bureau. Michael Leo is the owner and he did the work. We had the kitchen redone and were not pleased with the cabinets. We were going to do the top cabinets and he said we didn't need to do that so he saved us $2,000. Within a week, he did all the lower cabinets. There were around 19 or 20 pieces to refinish. He usually does furniture refinishing but he felt sorry for us and did the work, which was very nice. He was a very pleasant guy. He made it match and it looks great. You would not have known we had a problem. The price was very fair considering the work he did. He would call and say what time he would be here and he was here at that time. He was careful not to get dirt on the carpets. He taped up plastic to protect the rest of the house, which we appreciated."

"Mike did a really incredible job bringing life back to this chair. He pulled 144 rusty upholstery tacks, stripped, sanded and refinished the chair. He was also to save the label and makers mark which was important to me. I dropped the chair off on a Friday and he had it back to me two weeks later. I will definitely use Mike's services again."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Philadelphia, PA

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
