He gave me an hourly rate for the job ($98/hr.) and estimated that it would take 2 to 4 hours to complete. I scheduled the service once I had received delivery of the new softener. A plumber and an apprentice came out to do the work. They were very professional. It took them 4 hours to finish everything. They explained a few troubleshooting issues that might arise so I could address them myself without having to call them in again. The price included time, materials, and hauling away my old water softener."
