"Install was scheduled for 9:30 EST 12/22/2025. At approx10:30am called to inquire as to his status. He told me he was 10 mins away. He arrived an hour later. He was somewhat agitated on arrival. We together unboxed the new faucet and he examined the existing functional kitchen faucet. The system in place was result of new construction in 2017.He raised no concerns about new product quality or concerns about getting the job done. He was at the job approx. 2 hours and I was present close by throughout. After approx. one hour he became more and more agitated. He asked me to show him the basement as he "needed more length" to hook up the product. No changes took place in the basement. Shortly thereafter he announced the new product was "cheap" and suddenly "fell apart". He became agitated and told me the only option was to return the product and that he now had to replace the previous existing faucet. At this time on my exam noted one of the water hoses on the new product was no longer functional. There was a short extension on the other hose which I commented seemed to imply he had realized the new product hoses were too short. He quickly took off that extension and put it in his pocket, reiterated the new product was "junk". When done he asked me for 500$ for the two hours work and left. On my further exam of the new faucet after he left was clear he had been trying to stretch these short hoses to the point of damaging beyond repair both (please see pics) hoses. It was obvious all of this could have been avoided by adding extensions from the start. The under sink area would have easily accommodated this. In retrospect I am sorry I paid him. But, I am elderly, live on a rural dead end dirt road and just needed him out of the house. It is why I use a company like Angi to hopefully have some screening responsibility. Follow up communication has been difficult during the holidays. Ultimately I did speak with him. He continued to be dismissive and challenged me to seek legal recourse. I questioned his agitation that day. I asked if he had been drinking (both my parents were heavy drinkers and I regret not following that suspicion that day). He did not deny just replying "If you are so smart why didn't you do the job yourself". I told him that is why I strive to employ reputable contractors, always."

FAQs for water main install, replace or repair projects in Plymouth, NH

If you notice puddles or standing water in your yard, a sudden drop in water pressure, cracks forming in your foundation, frequent clogs in your plumbing fixtures, or water that looks or smells unusual, you might have a leak in your main water line. These signs mean it's time to call a professional to evaluate the issue and prevent further damage.

A professional water main inspection is a comprehensive evaluation performed by a licensed plumber who checks every section of your plumbing system. The inspection costs $165 and uses advanced diagnostic techniques to identify hidden leaks or wear. This service clarifies the exact condition of your water main, enabling precise repairs that prevent future damage and ensure the overall health of your plumbing system.

Protect your water main by scheduling a cleaning and inspection every two to five years. The average cost of a sewer line cleaning is $400. It’s also important to never dig in your yard without first calling the dig line (811) to ensure you don't accidentally hit the water or sewer lines. Watch for soil erosion, low water pressure, or wet spots in your yard, and take immediate action if you suspect a leak. Remember, the longer you leave it, the worse the problem gets and the more costly it is to fix.

When properly maintained, your water main is engineered to remain functional for 50 years or longer. A durable water service in excellent condition should consistently perform without major issues for half a century. In contrast, metal pipes exposed to acidic soil corrode faster, whereas modern plastic pipes resist corrosion and function for decades beyond metal alternatives. Regular maintenance and inspections are essential for confirming your system’s longevity.

No, homeowners insurance does not cover the cost to repair a water main. Insurers fund only sudden, unforeseen events like a burst pipe and exclude gradual issues or normal wear and tear. Damage resulting from leaks, such as mold remediation or property claims, is not covered. It is essential to contact your insurance provider immediately to confirm your policy’s details and any potential adjustments needed.
