"Absolutely outstanding service! James from Essential Plumbing was professional, respectful, and transparent from start to finish. After being overcharged by a big box store contractor who left my pipes in a mess, James came in, assessed the issue, explained everything clearly, and fixed it perfectly — all for a fair price. He didn’t try to upsell me or scare me with fake repairs. Just honest, skilled work by someone who truly knows his craft. If you’re tired of being overcharged or talked down to by big companies, call James. Thank you, Essential Plumbing! You’ve earned a customer for life."

"At our initial visit, I showed Mr. Ybarra the already-dug hole and explained what First Class Plumbing had proposed: digging under the sidewalk and drilling into my wall. Mr. Ybarra offered a less invasive option. He said Sheldon s would dig up to the front edge of the sidewalk and run a scope through the pipe to check for root damage or cracks. If everything looked good, he said they would not need to drill into the wall. That specific plan was the main reason I chose Sheldon s over the other company. For this, he quoted $3,898 (including a discount). I felt it was high but agreed, in part because he also offered a payment plan and said there would be no interest. Based on this understanding, I signed the estimate. The next day, shortly after starting work, he called me outside and showed me my metal shut-off valve. It was a round wheel handle you turn to open or close off the water. He said replacing it would cost an additional $1,200. I was shocked and repeatedly asked why the price was so high and whether it included parts and labor. Instead of clearly explaining the cost, he kept steering the conversation back to how little it would add to my monthly payment. When I pressed again, he responded, Do you want me to put it on or leave it off? I felt pressured and that I had no real choice, so I agreed to the extra charge. Because the no prepayment penalty language in the finance contract was unclear, I decided to pay for the work in full on my personal credit card instead of using their financing. At that time, we agreed that he would return the next day to confirm everything was working properly. When they finished the job that day, I was still at home getting ready to leave. Rather than calling me outside to inspect the work, Mr. Ybarra told me he had my brother verify that there were no leaks at the main line and valve area. My brother is not the homeowner, was not part of the original agreement, and has no financial responsibility for this job. I was never asked to confirm the work before the hole was backfilled. Afterwards, when I reviewed the final invoice and report, several statements disturbed me: The promised dig and inspection up to the front edge of the sidewalk never happened. He worked only in the previously opened area of my lawn. This key part of the plan that influenced my decision to choose "Sheldon's" the dig and scope to the sidewalk but was not performed. The report states that the customer s brother came out to verify that there were no leaks before backfilling the hole, as if he were authorized to approve the job. He was not. The agreement was with me, and I should have been the one called to inspect and sign off on the work. The report states that I was informed the work came with a one-year warranty and that I was advised to contact Sheldon s if future root intrusion occurs. I was never told about any warranty, never shown any terms, and never agreed to one. Seeing this claim in the report feels misleading, and I am left to wonder whether undisclosed warranty costs were built into the already high price. My primary concerns are: the unexpectedly high and poorly explained pricing (especially the additional $1,200 for the valve), the failure to perform the work as originally proposed (no dig or scope up to the sidewalk), the use of my brother instead of me to verify completion, and inaccurate statements in the final report about both the work performed and a warranty that was never disclosed. I am requesting an adjustment of the charges to reflect an amount in a range closer to Angi's list:$1696 up to "First Class's" quote of $2400. and written clarification of any warranty. I want this handled as an issue of integrity and transparency in how customers are treated and how work is represented."
