"I recently got estimates from a half-dozen HVAC companies for the installation of a full ducted heat-pump system into a home that did not have it - a retrofit. Fort Collins Heating and Air Conditioning called me back within minutes of my submitting a quote request, and they came out the same morning - impressive. The guy who came out was dressed professionally and was notably friendly. However, his proposal was the only one that required two outdoor units and quite a bit of exterior hoses and wiring, which I had said I wanted to minimize. Pricing was also a problem; the estimate was, by far, the highest I received. I continued to like the estimator throughout the process, but the truth is that the quote was not competitive. This was the *Cadillac* of the companies, I spoke to: the cost of a permit was included, they guarantee in writing that you will pay only the estimated price, no matter what, and they have a final, separate quality inspection that nobody else does (or at least mentions).
