"Called Alan for an estimate to perform the power washing  and sealing of deck and  cedar siding of our house as well as to build a staircase from the deck to the ground. I also asked him to give me a quote for renovating a bathroom and miscellaneous smaller jobs.  As this is currently a weekend house, Alan agreed to come on a Saturday to give me an estimate. Alan arrived on time (if not early) and reviewed the scope of work and provided me with an estimate on Monday as promised. Although his price seemed a little high for the stairs (we had two cheaper estimates from other companies), we decided to go ahead with having Westside perform  the stair project as well as the power washing/sealing work. The estimate for the bathroom renovation was prohibitively high and we have elected to not renovate that "extra" bathroom at this time. Alan's crew commenced the power washing/sealing work immediately and  completed the work timely.(They did this work during the week and we never saw these workers).  Alan's foreman and master carpenter Bucky and assistant Ken came early the following Saturday to  discuss the placement of the deck stairs and options with us. They also discussed  replacing a few clearly  rotting boards on the deck as well as adding some extra support to the rails, which extra work we elected to do. To our surprise Bucky and Ken started the work on the staircase that same Saturday and made substantial progress on this aspect of the job. Bucky and Ken worked on the deck staircase on and off during that week and came back on the following Saturday to put the finishing touches on it. All in all the entire job took less than two weeks from when I received the estimate until completion.
We are very pleased with how the staircase turned out and see that it was a lot more work than we originally thought  and  believe that the price was fair and reasonable.  Only issues we had are that we were not advised that  the sealant on the deck was still wet  when the job was finished and we wound up tracking the house (a note or call would have been appropriate). The power washing and sealing of the cedar siding looks great and makes the house look brand new.
We were told by another contractor (also on Angie's list) that we could not have the type of  deck staircase that we had built as he didn't think there was ample room for it.  Bucky built the staircase that we desired that exceeded our expectations and that we will hopefully enjoy for years to come.
Westside  was punctual on all appointments, kept us advised as to the progress of the job and delivered an excellent finished product and we would recommend them  without reservation."
