"Ramon comes with career of experience having worked at a major furniture chain repairing and refinishing experience. His aim is to please. His is timely, professional and an artist of his profession. He even brought the nightstand back halfway through his refinishing to ask me if I like the color he was staining. He is outgoing and his charge is minimal when you compare to other refinishers. You will not be sorry!"

"We used Loya Cleaning in our previous home two times and appreciated Felix's personal attention, professionalism and promptness. We moved into a new house about 6 months ago and had Loya cleaning begin bi-weekly services a couple of months ago. I trust them to be in our house without us here and always come home to an impeccably clean home. I had previously tried a national chain for cleaning and it was terrible and overpriced. Felix usually comes to my house himself with his crew (including his son when he's on break from college) and takes pride in his work. Very reasonably priced and very friendly!

"He told me that the job was too small, and that the painters would have to paint a larger area to make the job "worthwhile". The estimate did not include the cost of re-finishing the wood floor, because again, the refinisher wouldn't do the job unless the whole first floor was done--and this did not include a price for that service, either. No one has to work for me, I understand, but profit is profit, whether the job is large or small. I assume the subcontractors have profit built into their bids, and I know Mr. Suazo had profit built into his overall bid. So, I fail to understand why my job, however small, is not "worthwhile", since the profit will still be there. Mr. Suazo and his team probably do an excellent job, and I do appreciate his willingness to come out and give me an estimate. But, it seems foolish to pay for more than I need, just so the contractors think the job is "worthwhile.""

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in San Diego, CA

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
