"Nato came on a Thursday and did an initial estimate. He was very clear that the garden would look a little bare for a few weeks as he'd have to cut things back pretty far. His estimate was 1/2 that of the other companies we talked to, and he was willing to come on the weekends, which made things much easier for us. He came back just three days later (on a Saturday) and two of his men spent 8 hours here. They left with a truck overflowing with trimmings, and even removed a small tree for us. Nato supervised them at the beginning and end, and the team was great to work with (we were working in the front yard while they were in the back) - extremely helpful and courteous. Total bill was just what he said - $500. We also gave each of the two guys a tip (though we were never asked to do so and I didn't even detect a hint of expecting one). The cleanup looks great though, as he cautioned, things are a little barren while we wait for them to grow back. For large cleanup jobs, this company is excellent. Though I use an all organic company for regular maintenance now (I would use Nato if I was not so into organic gardening), I will certainly call Nato and his team for the next large job. Highly recommend."

"Rosa and her crew showed up and were friendly, clean and efficient. They found a leak and fixed it on the spot with no added charge. I liked the work ethic they demonstrated and Rosa offered to fix the timer system and came back and completed the work and her crew mowed and trimmed the yard and cleaned up after themselves. The yard looks great and the sprinkler system is now functioning and Rosa set it up and showed me how to use the system."

"Now that it's done, there's not a day goes by that I'm not thrilled I hired Melvin to update my gardening! We struggled to grow grass, and we wanted a space that would accommodate a a small garden, as well as a dining and sitting area. Urizar Landscaping redid our front and back yards, and was able to help me pull out our grass, too! In its place is a gorgeous colorful garden with a quaint stone path that runs from one end to another. His workers were courteous and hard-working and the work was done well and efficiently, including removing the day lily, roses, dead sections of the bamboo and all the palm, as well as non-bamboo vegetation among the bamboo from the roots so they would not grow back."

"I have used About Green twice in the past 3 years. Our backyard has a lot of trees and very tall tree-type hedges. Since it was a major part of the reason we bought the home, we want to maintain the health of the landscaping back there. Vince and his team scaled and thinned/trimmed a couple very tall redwood trees, removed an unhealthy leaning tree and trimmed/maintained many other trees on our property. Vince is a pleasure to work with and very friendly. He is extremely knowledgeable in all of the trees that we have and suggests what service to do on each type of tree based on his knowledge of each. He explains it very clearly to us who don't know much about the subject. His work is quality and his goal is 100% customer satisfaction. On this last visit, they spent a few hours trimming a tree-type hedge and when I came home from work, I wanted it around 3 feet lower. Even though it meant repeating the work for a few hours, Vince did it without any argument. To me, that was a true test of customer satisfaction. They complete the work in a timely manner, over a 2 day period. They cleaned up the yard like new and disposed of a ton of trimmings (never seen so much in my life). I never even consider another tree service besides About Green. I plan to have him come out after summer to suggest some landscaping ideas as I haven't used him for that before.."

"They did a really good job. I have three different lines in my sprinkler system and they were knowledgeable. They were really nice and they told me why they were doing things and that they were going to do it. It was a good experience. They came out to do the job about a week after I purchased the big deal. There was an additional charge of $200 only for the timer system that they put in. When they were replacing the little things in the system and making sure that all the pipes worked, I asked them if they could put in a timer because I never had one when I moved into the house. They let me know ahead of time what the cost was and they gave me a written estimate if I wanted to do it. So, I went ahead and did it and it turned out fine. They were really good. I really liked the owner of the company and his two workers. They were a family. I do not really know how to compare the price because I have not really had that done before."

It was very easy to work with Tim.  While we provided the designs, it was an interactive discussion of what we wanted. Relying on Dooling's experience and expertise, we made modifications to some of our plans. He provided a detailed cost proposal with each task individually priced.

First installed was 2 paver pads totaling 300 sq ft: larger sitting area and smaller one for the grill.  A concrete perimeter is used to hold down the outside pavers and keep everything together.  Below the pavers is 4 inches of base rock and an inch of sand.  After install, the pavers were sealed.

Next in were sprinkler runs.  We had 3 zones installed, all on drip irrigation.  One run is about 30 feet, while the longest is about 125 ft to get to the furthest corner of the yard. One zone feeds raised vegetable beds. The vegetable beds were filled with planters soil.

Off the patio made of pavers we had paths of decomposed granite installed.  This involved digging out the soil so that a base rock could be installed and then over that the decomposed granite was tamped down and then a stabilizer was sprayed into it.  The stabilizer creates a semi-permanent crust so that it doesn't feel like sand when you walk on it.

Last task was to clear out two areas of the yard to install 6 yards of gold-colored pea gravel.  Task included removing weeds, some bushes, and roots from nearby trees.

We also had Dooling plant a 4x4 post near the fence so that we can string lights to it from the house.

FAQs for lawn and garden sprinkler system installation projects in San Martin, CA

While drip irrigation systems have higher upfront costs, they can save you money in the long run. By delivering water directly into the soil with minimal evaporation and runoff, drip irrigation systems conserve water and improve efficiency. This means better performance and results for your landscaping, and cost savings over the system's lifespan.

Yes, irrigation systems can add value to your home, especially when installed with high-quality materials and a solid design. A well-irrigated landscape enhances curb appeal and can attract potential buyers. However, poor design or installation may reduce performance and even decrease your property's value. Hiring an expert for installation and performing regular maintenance is key to securing the long-term benefits.

A local irrigation professional can help you check your drip irrigation system to make sure it's in good shape. You'll want to make sure the water pressure is in a good range, repair any leaks as soon as possible, and cover the cost to winterize your sprinkler system as recommended by your irrigation contractor.

A drip irrigation system lasts between 10 and 15 years. This lifespan is determined by the quality of materials, the precision of installation, and regular professional maintenance. Unlike traditional sprinkler systems that can last up to 50 years, the thinner piping used in drip systems is more sensitive to UV exposure and environmental wear. Proper upkeep and timely repairs enhance durability and ensure consistent irrigation performance.

Drip irrigation is best suited for plant beds, containers, greenhouses, and row crops. It supplies water directly to individual plants, ensuring precise moisture control where it is needed most. For areas with simple layouts, above-ground systems work efficiently, while subsurface installations may be cost-prohibitive in spaces with extensive tree roots or irregular terrain. Proper planning maximizes the benefits of drip irrigation across a variety of applications.
