"Excellent. For such a large project, it made sense to plan it out. We paid for a design and went back and forth a few times. Cleber and Angela are the owners and experienced designers, which made the process go very well. They came out to discuss the project with my wife and me several times. Bryan supervised the work and was hands on. His skill and expertise made a big difference, for example in ensuring the yard was inclined correctly to drain water away from the house. Unusual amounts of rain unfortunately dragged out the project by a few weeks but that was not Xtracare’s fault. Xtracare was particularly impressive in two areas: the excellent quality of their installation and their customer service and responsiveness. I found it very easy to contact the office and was confident I would hear back right away. The final result continues to be very satisfying. We turned an ugly parking lot in front of our house into a new space that we can enjoy. Neighbors repeatedly tell us how nice it looks. We also received the maximum rebate of $2,500 from the Montgomery County Rainscapes program, which was very easy to apply for. We qualified for the pavement removal and for adding sod. Don’t hesitate to apply for the rebate. And don’t hesitate to use Xtracare for any project, large or small!"

"They brought in soil to fill in where trees were taken down and where the stumps were ground down. They filled in with dirt, top soil and grass seed."

"Town and Country provided me a quote for driveway asphalt and a concrete walkway August 1st 2018. They were the highest quote but due to reviews and perceived professionalism, we chose to go with them. The walkway was so small they said it was their minimum cost. They said they could get us in the next couple weeks. We spent most of August going back and forth and finally got them back the last week of August to do the Driveway, but they said the weather wasn't cooperating to do the walkway. He asked me to pay for just the concrete and he would come back the next week ( 3 days later) for the walkway. The walkway was finally accomplished in December. All communication was initiated by me. The owner came out the day before the crew and drew a crude paint line of what I wanted for the walkway. He didn't measure, wasn't exact, etc. He said the crew would come and use that as a guideline. They finally showed up, dug everything out and poured the concrete. I paid the total bill before I could really realize what had happened. I contacted him within a day and asked if he had seen the final product. He said that he had and it was just as I told him. But, it was uneven width, the line of the concrete was curvy. The team had gone exactly by his free hand with spray paint. It ranged from 23 inches to 40 inches in width in different areas. He tried to convince me that I was person who wanted it that way. I told him I hired him because he bragged how professional and exact they were, and he said his team would "clean it up" from the drawing he did. I asked if he usually did these things free hand and relied on the customer to do QC of his work. He said that he would fix it, grudgingly. He said it would have to wait until first in the spring. Again, no communication. After months of back and forth, they finally started to respond September of 2019 to fix the problem. He tried to blame me and say it was my fault, that it was my design choice. (same as last year) He offered to fix it if I paid for the supplies, so I finally gave in because I wanted it done. They took forever to send the estimate, continued to just have no communications except when I asked if they were ever coming. Finally in November they emailed on Friday that they would "get it done this weekend" and came out early Saturday morning to accomplish. Its not a great still but at least its not completely unprofessional. I do not consider him to be professional. He has horrible communication skills and talked down to me trying to make me think his poor workmanship was somehow my design. Not to mention, all the extra money was supposed to be becuase they would prepare the ground under the drive/walkway way better than everyone else, but within 6 months there were 2 huge visible sinkholes that he fixed "even though it was due to my poor drainage." Never again."

"On 12/30/24 PVI Group, LLC, managed by Mr. Cory Henderson, installed a 34’ x 20’ concrete driving pad for me in a very expert manner. The driving pad was installed in a single day by his team, who arrived early. My neighbors also like the work. I heartily endorse PVI Group, LLC."

"10 of 10. Great company. Delivered what they promised. Best price with quality work. Did entire driveway in one day with large portion excavated. Was nearly half the price of three competitors who provided less guarantee for their work. Will hire to do walkways and backyard. If you fail to look at this company you will throw money away and be frustrated. A+ business."

"We really appreciated working with the guys at Ben Burris Paving for a new asphalt driveway at our residence. Ben Jr. stopped by personally and was very thorough in explaining the process of the total paving project and made me aware of advantages of doing the job right this first time for many years of trouble free performance. He prepared a proposal and followed up with me in a timely fashion, very professional. When we agreed to move forward, he kept me in the loop as far as schedule and weather permitting. Ben Sr. and sons did an excellent job and we are completely satisfied! They were extremely careful around our new stone paver walkway as well. You can tell they have many years of experience and know their trade. They are up front and honest. The new driveway adds so much to the curb appeal and it looks like we have a new house. Many Thanks guys and keep up the great work."

"After finding Tillerman Gardens online and requesting an estimate for substantial hardscape/landscape work on our newly renovated house, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that Jesse, the owner, actually grew up in our neighborhood! On top of being a Takoma Park local, and an all around friendly, honest, business owner, we also came to learn that he does great work as well! His team completely transformed our hardscape areas, including installing a beautiful flagstone walkway and patio, a perfectly graded cement driveway, iron railings on our steps, and plants in a number of locations. On top of that, some of the work required some touch up and sealing and Jesse and his team have come out a couple of times later this spring to do that work unprompted. There's a little bit left, but I know they'll be around to finish it as they've taken care of us every step of the way. Even better, everything was done in budget. Look no further! These are your go to guys for all landscape/hardscape work in the area!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Silver Spring, MD

Most shed foundations benefit from a gravel layer four to six inches deep after proper compaction. The exact depth may vary depending on your specific soil conditions, climate, and shed weight. In areas with poor drainage or for heavier structures, contractors might recommend slightly deeper installations. Building the pad in multiple compacted layers rather than a single thick pour helps achieve optimal stability and load distribution.

Gravel pads cost significantly less than concrete foundations. While gravel materials run about $1.25 to $1.80 per square foot, concrete slabs average $6 per square foot. For a standard shed base, this price difference translates to substantial savings. Beyond the initial cost advantage, gravel pads also offer easier installation, simpler modifications if needed, and don't require specialized concrete finishing skills.

For a standard 10-by-12 shed pad, you'll need enough gravel to cover 120 square feet at the recommended depth. At rates of $1.25 to $1.80 per square foot, expect to spend $150 to $216 on gravel materials alone. Remember to factor in extending the pad beyond the shed's dimensions by one to two feet on each side for better drainage and stability, which increases the actual area needed.

The ideal gravel for shed foundations combines stability with proper drainage capabilities. Crusher run ($0.40 per square foot) makes an excellent base layer because it contains various particle sizes that lock together when compacted. For top layers, angular gravel provides better drainage while maintaining stability. Avoid perfectly round decorative stones as they don't compact effectively and may shift under weight, compromising your shed's stability over time.
