"It went flawlessly. The three guys arrived on time and made fast work of disassembling our granite slab front steps, by hand. They created a new reinforced base with crushed stone and reassembled the slabs to a new level surface. They patched two concrete retaining walls. Then the attacked the 37-year dirt build-up on our large concrete patio. They cut and filled a few large cracks and pressure washed the surface so that it now looks like a completely different patio. I could not be happier with the completed results of these three too-hard-for-us projects. Excellent work by three very hardworking professionals!"

"It is rare that I find a contractor as good as this one. I was blown away by all aspects of their work and their attention to detail. The J Stefan crew is awesome, friendly and hard working. They came on time and their price was very fair. They completed a wide range of services from creating a drainage culvert, paving, spreading loam and digging up tree stumps. It is hard to find a company that can "do it all" and do it all WELL, but this one meets those qualifications! I highly recommend J Stefan Contracting."

"They started July 1.  The first few days went well.  They were neat and efficient with the demo and installing the insulation, sheet rock and floor tile.  There was a delay then because I failed to order the sink and toilet on time.  However, I had selected paint - a Martha Stewart paint because those were the colors I liked.  The paint samples had swirls on them unlike all the other paint samples at Home Depot.  I just thought it was Martha's way of showing you had the option of making a faux/swirled pattern.  When the second painting came out with brush and roller strokes showing, the project manager and I thought there must be something in the paint accentuating shadows and swirls and that we needed other paint.  A day or 2 later the project manager and a woman (who never told me her position in the company) came to look at the paint job.  The woman said I would have to pay $300 more for repainting because I had picked the paint in the first place.  We discussed this for a few minutes - my position being that I, as an inexperience customer, chose paint colors but a profession painter should have known the properties of the paint he's using, especially when he realized I didn't want faux or swirls.  Once he painted 2 or 3 sides either above or below the chair rail he should have seen the problem and stopped.  The paint dries fast.  He had time to see, before he finished the whole room, that there was a problem.  Besides, I pointed out that my bathroom is only a powder room, not a $10,000.00 job anyway.  She relented.  After a week not hearing from them I called the project manager and a return date was set to repaint with new paint.  Meanwhile, the sink, tiolet and cabinets had arrived.
The third paint job is sloppy at best.  The corners where the chair rail meets the door and window trim have debris from sanding so the corners are thick instead of sharp and clean (new sheetrock and chair rail so no previous paint buildup), the lines between paint colors are wavey with brown going over into beige and beige going into brown, there are drips ( not from the underlying paint) in several areas, lines between brush and roller are very evident, a piece of the chair rail that broke when it was nailed in was never filled, sanded or treated at all (I think a brand new piece of chair rail should have been installed right when the break was made), there are areas where the primer shows through.  And more.  I showed the project manager and he seemed to agree with me.  I told him I did not want that painter to return.  There is nothing personal about that - he's had 3 chances to do it professionally and has failed.  I don't trust his ability and judgment.  I haven't heard from Queen City Remodeling since that day, approximately August 20.
I emailed QCR on August 27, giving my view of the situation, offering to have another painter correct the mistakes and finish the rest of the painting at their expence.  I pointed out to them that they have saved money on this Big Deal because there is no bathtub removal and replacement, no medicine cabinet and exhaust fan involved in this project which are allowed for in their offer/contract.  I called and left a message on Friday August 30, asking to communicate with me, give me their position.  I haven't heard from them.
This project started July 1.  The sink and toilet arrived during the 3rd week of July, the cabinets about a week later.  It is now September 3.  Their failure to communicate with a customer is the most unprofessional behavior I have observed or heard of so I am forced to give this very poor review.
I didn't give them an overall D because the project manager and plumber are good, professional and helpful.

FAQs for brick or stone siding: install or completely replace projects in South Berwick, ME

Brick siding offers numerous advantages, including high durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and lasting for generations. It provides natural insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures year-round. Brick is fire-resistant, improving home safety, and reduces external noise for a quieter indoor environment. Its timeless aesthetic appeal boosts curb appeal and can increase your home's resale value.

Yes, you can add brick to an existing house. One option is to remove the current siding and install full brick masonry, which involves laying traditional bricks with mortar for a solid brick exterior. Alternatively, you can opt for brick veneer siding, a thinner layer of real or manufactured brick applied over the existing structure. Brick veneer is typically more affordable and easier to install while still providing the aesthetic benefits of brick. Both methods can enhance your home's appearance and value.

Yes, installing brick siding often provides a significant return on investment. With an average ROI of around 77%, and some returns exceeding 80%, brick siding enhances curb appeal, energy efficiency, and longevity, making your home more attractive to potential buyers and potentially increasing resale value.

Brick siding is known for its exceptional longevity, often lasting over 100 years when properly maintained. Regular maintenance, like repointing mortar joints, ensures its durability over time. Brick veneer, while thinner than full brick masonry, is durable and can last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Both options offer long-lasting protection and value for your home.

When choosing brick siding, consider your budget, as costs can vary depending on brick type and installation method. Also, consider your desired aesthetic; different bricks offer various colors, textures, and styles to complement your home's architecture. Installation time and complexity are factors, with options like brick veneer being quicker and less labor-intensive than full brick masonry. Additionally, assess the maintenance requirements and durability to select the best option for your long-term needs.

Alternatives to brick siding include vinyl siding, which is cost-effective and low-maintenance and offers a variety of colors and styles. Wood siding provides a natural, classic look but requires more upkeep to prevent weather damage. Fiber cement siding is durable and can mimic the appearance of wood or masonry without the high maintenance. Each alternative has its own advantages, so consider factors like budget, aesthetics, and maintenance when making your choice.
