"Philip was amazing - he was responsive, professional, reliable, and precise in his work and his estimates. He and JD are very talented painters who did an excellent job, we highly recommend to anyone who needs a great painter at a reasonable price. We plan on contacting Philip again for any other paint jobs needed in the future! Also of note, he painted our bathroom in the dark while our light fixture was out and did a great job!"

"Excellent job. The Brewer crew are professionals. On time each day and worked until 5:00 PM each day. Removed downspouts to completely paint the house, and cleaned up entirely before leaving."

"Ron was great to work with. He makes a very labor intensive job look easy. He does a great job, besides getting all traces of wallpaper and glue from walls he washed them down so they are ready for paint. Ron is very neat and tidy, always keeping down drop cloths to catch the paper and cleaning up after himself as he works along."

"Work exceeded expectations! Price was very reasonable. They completed the job quickly and took great care to protect anything that was not to be painted (sidewalks, deck, shrubs). Communication throughout the process was outstanding. No details were left out - even painted the mailbox post to match the house trim color! It was clear that they took great pride in their work and wanted to make us happy with the finished product. We could not have anticipated a better experience and would certainly use them again!"

"I hate having to leave a less than excellent review but I so appreciate the time people take to share their experiences, good, bad, and average on Angie's List. I just joined so I didn't check out this company before using them. I will begin by saying that the water mitigation dept. of CRC was excellent in responsiveness. We had a hot water pipe burst at 3 am above my closet on the second floor. We were awakened by a large picture hitting the floor as it fell from a saturated wall. We quickly turned off the water and put buckets under the dripping ceilings. We called our insurance company the next morning and our agent recommended CRC. We called and they were onsite within the hour (about 8:30am). It was almost too much to believe because there were probably 7-8 guys ripping out the ceiling and moldings and installing huge dehumidifiers, floor mats, and fans. It broke my heart to see my crown molding and wainscoting ripped out and hacked up- what a waste! They said it had to be done to prevent mold, but that they would be sure to replace it just like it was and I had no reason at that time not to believe them. The project manager was very reassuring and explained everything in detail. He spoke with our insurance company and for some reason they were given the go ahead to do the estimate for the reconstruction instead of an adjustor. OK, big red flags should have gone up but they assured me this happens all the time. Their estimator came at the end of the next week. We walked carefully around and pointed out each of the damaged areas. The estimator assured me repeatedly that the work would be done right and we would be pleased and it was guaranteed for three years. After several days my insurance company called and said the estimate was too high so they would need to have an adjustor come out after all. Why they didn't  send an adjustor to start with is beyond me. All the insurance adjustor did was basically confirm that the CRC quote was good although we found several areas where the CRC estimator had made mistakes (like carpet replacement for $0.62/sq ft in one bedroom and $3.43/sq ft. in another room for the same carpet). Obviously the adjustor didn't go over the CRC quote carefully. So after that, CRC never contacted us again. I called and was told the structural project manager would be in touch to schedule the work to be done. They even left a lockbox on our door so they could access our house when needed. It is now October and we still have not heard from them. We contacted the water mitigation project manager to ask him to please come get the lockbox. At least he responded. He removed it without knocking (or maybe I wasn't home). He was a really nice guy but the other part of the company he works for is not up to his standard. So, be aware- CRC- great for water mitigation but don't count on them to follow up with repairs. I rated them a C because unfortunately I think this is an average experience when it comes to dealing with home repair. What a shame. No wonder there are so many DIYer's. <br />"

"Bottom line - we could not have been more pleased. In fact, before Chris could finish painting our house, we contracted with him to return to add on to our existing deck.  <br /> My wife and I subcontracted the building of our house about 10 years ago, so we have lots of experience with subcontractors. Chris would clearly be at the top of our most favorable contractors. <br /> The positive feeling started immediately when Chris first arrived at our home for an estimate. He walked around the home, examining every little detail, and then surprised us when he said he wanted to paint our home by hand (and not using a power sprayer because it would look better). We were even more surprised when his very detailed and professional quote arrived and the price was comparable to other contractors who wanted to spray the home. We decided on Chris and almost instantly, were rewarded by our decision. <br /> It took Chris (and his very professional and dedicated crew - James and Jimmy) about 2 1/2 weeks to clean, paint and repair our dormers. Every day, they arrived before 8:00 and immediately went to work. I hardly ever saw them break and they worked hard every day right up or close to 5:00.  <br /> Their work was highly professional, better than my wife and I could have done - which is saying something because we both pride ourselves on doing things better than others.  <br /> They had all of the right equipment and worked in a logical, detailed, organized way. I'm being very serious when I say that my wife and I firmly believe that they worked as if they cared as much as we did about the final product/appearance.  <br /> As I said earlier, perhaps the best endorsement I could provide is that before Chris was half-way through painting our house, we had seen enough to ask him to quote us a price of extending our existing deck, which he will do in a couple of weeks.  <br /> Chris and his crew did all of the work, from moving furniture off the porch, taking down and then putting back up the outdoor speakers. He quoted us for painting the entire house and he did, all with a good attitude. I never once heard them complain, about anything! <br /> It was clear from the beginning that they knew what they were doing, from selecting the paint, prepping the house for painting and then actually painting. We never once had to question what they were doing. In fact, more times than not, I walked in from checking on them and told my wife, "you're not going to believe what they are doing now...." (followed by something that was very positive). Their priority was making my house look good and they did.  <br /> They were extremely courteous and respectful. They even warned us when another neighborhood cat was bullying our cat.  <br /> They cleaned up every day, stacked their equipment out of the way and returned the next morning and went straight to work. <br /> Almost every day he asked what we thought and encouraged us to examine the work they had just completed and alert him if we saw anything that concerned us.  <br /> Chris never bugged us for payment. In fact, usually we were the ones that asked - is this OK for this week? We had worked a plan where we would pay in thirds, but when we started, because we purchased the paint (to receive a better sale price than his contractor's discount - which he returned the savings back to us), he was happy to save the majority of the payment until near the end of the project. <br /> When he was close to finishing, he returned all of the savings off the project back to us. Although we felt a little guilty paying less than quoted, he assured us that the final price was a fair deal. <br /> Our neighbors would asked what we thought of Chris and we would tell them, "you can't have him until we are finished with him!' I believe he'll spend some time in our neighborhood because like many of you, we all want a contractor that we can trust to do the right things, even when nobody was looking and would take as much pride in their work as we would.  <br /> As I said, he's coming back in a couple of week and if we ever have any other home projects, he'll be the first one we contact, without any hesitation and reservation. Yes, they are that good! <br /> My wife and I are absolutely delighted with Chris, James and Jimmy and thrilled about the work they did. We are completely, 100% satisfied and grateful that we decided to allow someone else paint our home. We were never disappointed with them, in any way.  <br /> We would be absolutely delighted to recommend them, even to our closest friends and family, in full and complete confidence. They earned our trust."

"I have made many mistakes in paint color in the past, and really wanted to get this right. I asked for a color consultation first, to select the right color to paint the fireplace. LeeAnn was very personable on the phone and within a few days visited the home and suggested the perfect colors for both the fireplace and the mantel. Within a few more days she and an assistant completed the work. I believe it took two days due to preparation and then a second coat of paint. It looks perfect, and I love how it freshens up the room. I'm so glad that I asked for help on this project. I will definitely call them again! They were pleasant, timely, professional, and clearly talented at color selection and painting."

"My point of contact, Oswald, is very professional and courteous. Most of all, he is meticulous about every step in the painting process and that is why I choose CertaPro painting. Betty and her crew did an outstanding job in cleaning and painting the outside of our house, the windows, doors. We are very satisfied with the results and would recommend, as well as use, CertaPro again! <br />"

"Eveything was done in a timely matter. Workers arrived early on 8-17-12 and worked pretty much non-stop (took breaks) in order to get in all done the same day even through it was very hot. Did great job with clean up. Also removed large satellite dish and hauled away. (no charge). Also trimmed a tree without being asked THANKS. Need more home repairs done and plan to give them first shot. <br />"

FAQs for wallcovering or wallpaper removal projects in Southern Pines, NC

You can determine your wall type through tactile and visual tests. Start by checking the surface by inserting a thumbtack, feeling the texture, tapping to listen for a hollow sound, and examining cut edges under outlet covers. Drywall feels soft with a hollow sound, while plaster is hard and solid. These checks are especially useful in older homes where plaster is more common.

After removing wallpaper, you can dispose of small amounts in your household trash. However, if you are removing wallpaper from your entire home, you’ll need to contact a waste removal service, rent a dumpster, or arrange a special pick-up with your municipality’s waste service. Wallpaper cannot be recycled, so it is important to keep it separate from the recycling stream to comply with local waste guidelines.

It takes a professional from several hours up to a full day to remove wallpaper from a single room. The removal duration depends on the type of adhesive, the age of the wallpaper, the condition of the wall, and the number of layers present. High ceilings and additional layers increase the time required, as extra care is taken to protect the wall surface while ensuring a complete removal.

Using fabric softener with water is an option for removing wallpaper, but its effectiveness is limited and depends on the type of wallpaper being used. This low-cost method is most effective on modern, less porous wallpaper and may not yield optimal results on vintage or textured varieties. It might also affect wall surface preparation for new coverings if the residue is not completely removed. For stubborn adhesive or textured surfaces, professional solutions are recommended to ensure a thorough removal without damaging the underlying wall.
