"He was very responsible and professional. His estimate was very reasonable and his work was excellent. We weren't given the choice of exactly what he did on this review. So I am putting what he did here. He and his wife removed the wallpaper and put up new."

"Embassy was an answer to prayer! After waiting 10 months for another person to do our wallpapering and finally were going to put us off another 3 more months, we were at a loss. That's when I called Embassy and it was like a dream! David called me back the same day, came the following day for an estimate, and STARTED the next day!! Not only do I have a beautiful home now, he and his son, David, were the nicest people. They were professional clean and impeccable work!! I would recommend them to anyone!! Thank you David!!"

"I definitely recommend A&E WallCovering! They showed up on time and completed the job very quickly. Very respectful and cleaned up their workspace after they were done. The pricing is also very reasonable for the wonderful service they provide."

"Kelly deserves an A++! She did so much for us, well above and beyond what we asked of her. She was flexible (we had to change the dates a few times because of changes in the closing date) and she was not only prompt but she arrived very early in the morning to make sure there was time to complete the job (and she in fact finished earlier than promised!). She is professional but also personable and friendly. Her color recommendations were perfect, she has an amazing eye. The painting itself was done well, with great attention to detail. I highly recommend her!!!!"

"After interviewing several plastering companies, I was given some grim reports about the extensive work needed on my walls. A lot of the plasterers seemed unsure about the work, or at least did not make me feel confident that they were qualified to provide me with flawless walls and ceilings. Just to give a little back ground, I have built 3 other homes before purchasing a 1950' ranch. the second home that I built the plaster work was OK, but not great. The 3rd home that I built the plastering work was amazing. It was so good that my painter praised the plasterer because it made his job that much easier. So when it was time to plaster the wall in my current home, I called the guy who had done the work on my second home (which was also the owner) and unfortunately he was involved in an automobile accident and was not able to do the work. So I was very hesitant to bring someone else in. My expectation, work quality was going to be measured to my previous experience.( so I was concerned) So I interviewed several plastering companies and expressed my concerns relating to the quality of service that I expected. Joe was very responsive when I called, he worked around my schedule to come out and tour the house, He was very confident, professional and made me feel at ease ( mind you I've already met with 3 other companies prior to meeting Joe) both my wife and I knew right away t who we wanted going to go with.(AJ Plaster) one of the issues that I typical encounter when dealing with contractors is their scope of work. most of the time they are not detailed to the scope of work only to later on bicker about what was and what wasn't included in the price. (not with Joe) Joe's proposal was very clear and detailed, he outlined each item and was very specific to the scope.( even though I felt at the end he did more than what was on the scope) The scope covered some 1900 square feet of ceiling and walls. Again this is a very old house and the walls and ceilings were not square, leveled or plumb. in addition there were some areas that needed patch work.(badly) He not only plastered but he also saved me a ton of time and trouble by offering to sheet rock some of the unfinished walls and ceiling that I had not yet have gotten to do. ( not for free) But when he quoted the work it was about the same cost that I was paying for materials and my labor and time was more valuable. (It freed me up to do other things that needed to be done prior to plastering) I was pressed in getting the kitchen cabinets in and the walls and ceilings needed to be plastered before the cabinets arrived. I called Joe and explained to him my situation. ( although Joe was not scheduled for another two weeks to start on my house. He moved his schedule around and was able to bail me out. He said that he was going to start at 7:15 AM. and he showed up on time with his crew every single day until the project was completed ( total of 5 days) Now what about the quality of work ? I did not expect the quality to be the same as my previous plasterer. reason being I couldn't see how it could be any better. WOW was I wrong. Joe brought it up one extra notch. the walls and ceilings looked like glass, they looked so good I didn't feel like they needed painting.. If you are looking for a plasterer. Joe is the real deal.. PS I don't endorse or write reviews, I believe if I pay for a service, I should get what I pay for. However this guy is the real deal, professional and A-1 quality .. THANKS JOE AND YOUR TEAM"

"While replacing the trim around my windows, I pulled off a piece that was stuck to the wall and the top layer of paper of the blue board came off with it. So I contacted 401 Drywall and Plaster. I was advised that if there was a layer of paper left they could skim coat over it. I was relieved they were willing to do such a small job and could do it without cutting out a section of the wall. We made an appointment. They showed up on time and did the job in about twenty minutes. They were friendly and courteous, and didn`t leave any mess for me to clean up. <br />"

"Jess and Mario did an excellent job covering a very dark color in one of our bedrooms. Very professional, very careful with the carpet and our furniture. We will definitely hire again for more jobs. Highly recommend!"

FAQs for wallcovering or wallpaper removal projects in Providence, RI

You can determine your wall type through tactile and visual tests. Start by checking the surface by inserting a thumbtack, feeling the texture, tapping to listen for a hollow sound, and examining cut edges under outlet covers. Drywall feels soft with a hollow sound, while plaster is hard and solid. These checks are especially useful in older homes where plaster is more common.

After removing wallpaper, you can dispose of small amounts in your household trash. However, if you are removing wallpaper from your entire home, you’ll need to contact a waste removal service, rent a dumpster, or arrange a special pick-up with your municipality’s waste service. Wallpaper cannot be recycled, so it is important to keep it separate from the recycling stream to comply with local waste guidelines.

It takes a professional from several hours up to a full day to remove wallpaper from a single room. The removal duration depends on the type of adhesive, the age of the wallpaper, the condition of the wall, and the number of layers present. High ceilings and additional layers increase the time required, as extra care is taken to protect the wall surface while ensuring a complete removal.

Using fabric softener with water is an option for removing wallpaper, but its effectiveness is limited and depends on the type of wallpaper being used. This low-cost method is most effective on modern, less porous wallpaper and may not yield optimal results on vintage or textured varieties. It might also affect wall surface preparation for new coverings if the residue is not completely removed. For stubborn adhesive or textured surfaces, professional solutions are recommended to ensure a thorough removal without damaging the underlying wall.
