"This company did a terrific job removing grasscloth wallpaper from our dining room that had been damaged by a leak. They also removed wallpaper from the master bedroom and bath and prepped for painting. The reinstallation of the same wallpaper in the dining room was perfect! We are very pleased with the job and would use this company again."

"The office personnel were rude. I got an estimate and then I had to wait until a specific person could schedule the appointment. When I didn't hear from the scheduler, I called several times to try and reach her and she was either out of the office or not available. I didn't understand why the office manager who kept taking my messages for an appointment couldn't schedule the service. When I finally got a hold of her, she was unfriendly and dismissive. I thought her behavior was unwarranted as I didn't complain and tried to make polite conversation. There were three painters who came out to do the work. Overall, they did a good job and were very professional. We had our full bath, powder room and exterior door frame and windows painted. When the paint dried, I noticed some areas that needed to be touched up. The lead painter came back and addressed my concerns and touched up the areas and we were very pleased with the quality of the job."

"The 2 man crew from HOP did a great job. From start to finish took about 4 days. David built my window trim and did a base coat of paint on the first day, next Rich built my closet header and began installing my outlets and TV mount. When the new drywall was dry, he installed my closet doors. He took the time to remove the old floor track and readjusted my carpet to it looked more attractive. He also helped us fix another door that didn't close properly. He really is a door expert, so if you are having trouble with a door opening or closing, Rich is your guy. When he wrapped up, David returned and painted all the new construction, painted my ceiling and the trim. He went the extra mile to paint my bedroom door which was a slightly different color than the closet. He also painted the inside of the newly installed header. His attention to detail was really appreciated. These guys were prompt, professional and very good at their jobs. Also friendly and went out of their way to make us happy. I would hire them again in a heart beat!!"

"They were very good.  I did think their price was very reasonable at the time.  They used quality materials and the workers were diligent.  They were quiet and just went about their job.  There was no destruction, no loud music and no nothing.  They just did their job and did nice work. I pointed out to them a couple of areas and they were very willing to take care of it without any question or any debate or anything.  They just got on the ladder and took care of it.  They were right on time."

"Will and his assistant were very professional and punctual. The job was complete and I requested some changes to the completed job. The changes were needed, as I did a poor job communicating one of my needs. Will and I evaluated the requested changes and agreed to what could be done. Will performed the requested changes and the finished product is great!!!! In addition, will and his assistant primed the walls and completely cleaned up after themselves, cleaning the floors and all. If you need drywall or paint work done then I would call Will. I feel like the price was fair compared to other quotes and the work was definitely worth it!"

"JL painting exceeded my expectations! My previous contractor suddenly disappeared leaving me looking for a company to remove wallpaper and paneling. The team that worked at my house arrived early, stayed late, and worked the entire time they were here. They cleaned up after themselves both eveningsand on the third day for the touch up and finishing odds and ends they left my house in the condition they found it. The price was excellent! I would highly recommend their service."

"We chose Wendy over a larger contractor because we were impressed by her sales spiel ? including that she goes above and beyond to treat every job like it?s her own home.   We should either have gone with the larger contractor, or done it ourselves. <br /> She is a one-woman business, so I asked what we should do as far as prepping the rooms. She indicated that all we needed to do is move furniture away from walls; she would take care of removing outlet covers, etc.   I should have asked for clarification on what was included in ?etc.? because anything that was left up, she painted around. <br /> Her level of attention to detail was sorely lacking.  She did not remove doorknobs, which would have been fine, if she hadn't gotten paint on the doorknobs, and the hinges.  It is obvious that she does not mask (which would be fine, if her detail work were neater) and does not use dropcloths appropriately ? she left a LOT of paint speckles on the floor, kitchen appliances, bathroom tile, counters.  She got paint on nearly all hardware that was left up on the walls.  She also left a trail of paint-water droplets across our brand new laminate floor.  <br /> Each evening, I was able to make a disappointingly long list of areas that she needed to touch up the next day ? even after she indicated that a room was ?finished.?  Her cut-ins are sloppy - she painted nearly 1/8" onto the tile in the bathrooms, and in many places on the floors. <br /> Also, she used a very bright white on all trim even though I specifically asked her to use a different white - and she did not tell <br /> me that she was not going to use the color I'd picked out.   I assume this is some kind of money-saving thing, but I would not have minded paying for trim paint that would match my walls better than bright white, if she had given me that option. <br /> Overall, I?d say she is overly speedy at the expense of being careful.  She does not go back and check her work before moving on to the next room, and does not clean up mistakes as she goes.  <br /> We used Wendy because we had painting to be done and no time to do it ourselves; also, she was one of only a few contractors willing to come out to our house in the middle of nowhere.  For $40+ per hour, we were very disappointed in the quality of her work.  We will not use her again, nor would we recommend her to friends or family. <br />"

"We had wood paneling painted in a family room (real estate agent's recommendation) as well as several halls, stairs and other rooms. Definition was easy to work with, did excellent work, cleaned up all debris and left everything in good order. Their price was competitive or better than other quotes I obtained. i am very pleased with the result and would highly recommend them for any painting jobs."

FAQs for wallcovering or wallpaper removal projects in Baltimore, MD

You can determine your wall type through tactile and visual tests. Start by checking the surface by inserting a thumbtack, feeling the texture, tapping to listen for a hollow sound, and examining cut edges under outlet covers. Drywall feels soft with a hollow sound, while plaster is hard and solid. These checks are especially useful in older homes where plaster is more common.

After removing wallpaper, you can dispose of small amounts in your household trash. However, if you are removing wallpaper from your entire home, you’ll need to contact a waste removal service, rent a dumpster, or arrange a special pick-up with your municipality’s waste service. Wallpaper cannot be recycled, so it is important to keep it separate from the recycling stream to comply with local waste guidelines.

It takes a professional from several hours up to a full day to remove wallpaper from a single room. The removal duration depends on the type of adhesive, the age of the wallpaper, the condition of the wall, and the number of layers present. High ceilings and additional layers increase the time required, as extra care is taken to protect the wall surface while ensuring a complete removal.

Using fabric softener with water is an option for removing wallpaper, but its effectiveness is limited and depends on the type of wallpaper being used. This low-cost method is most effective on modern, less porous wallpaper and may not yield optimal results on vintage or textured varieties. It might also affect wall surface preparation for new coverings if the residue is not completely removed. For stubborn adhesive or textured surfaces, professional solutions are recommended to ensure a thorough removal without damaging the underlying wall.
