"He did a wonderful job removing the wallpaper in our home. He did so good that we hired him for an additional two projects that ended up being ahead of schedule."

"The office personnel were rude. I got an estimate and then I had to wait until a specific person could schedule the appointment. When I didn't hear from the scheduler, I called several times to try and reach her and she was either out of the office or not available. I didn't understand why the office manager who kept taking my messages for an appointment couldn't schedule the service. When I finally got a hold of her, she was unfriendly and dismissive. I thought her behavior was unwarranted as I didn't complain and tried to make polite conversation. There were three painters who came out to do the work. Overall, they did a good job and were very professional. We had our full bath, powder room and exterior door frame and windows painted. When the paint dried, I noticed some areas that needed to be touched up. The lead painter came back and addressed my concerns and touched up the areas and we were very pleased with the quality of the job."

"They were very good.  I did think their price was very reasonable at the time.  They used quality materials and the workers were diligent.  They were quiet and just went about their job.  There was no destruction, no loud music and no nothing.  They just did their job and did nice work. I pointed out to them a couple of areas and they were very willing to take care of it without any question or any debate or anything.  They just got on the ladder and took care of it.  They were right on time."

"Excellent job, plaster repair and painting wall in bedroom. Plaster repair very smooth. Cannot tell where cracks were. Plaster repair and paint in dining area. Plaster work not smooth. Depending on light, you can see uneven areas. This may be due to having to work over an old gas line pipe. But so far -- a few months have passed-- and the repair is holding. This is my main concern though a bit more smoothness in the repair would have been great. I had to touch up some missed paint spots by the window frame. Possible that since the chosen Color was close to the old, the worker simply could not catch the spots missed. Also a little wipe up of white paint in a small section floor from baseboard paint job. I give an A for the upstairs bedroom job. And a B for the dining area, which was a much larger job."

"JL painting exceeded my expectations! My previous contractor suddenly disappeared leaving me looking for a company to remove wallpaper and paneling. The team that worked at my house arrived early, stayed late, and worked the entire time they were here. They cleaned up after themselves both eveningsand on the third day for the touch up and finishing odds and ends they left my house in the condition they found it. The price was excellent! I would highly recommend their service."

"I was pleased and impressed from the very beginning. Wendy gave a lot of time and careful attention to our home when she came to do the estimate. Even at that initial meeting, she gave me some very good ideas for preparing our house to sell. Her estimate was a bit lower than other companies we contacted, and I felt that she would give us much more personal attention during the painting process. Since we moved before the painting was done, she offered to re-attach banisters to the walls and do a few other "above and beyond" tasks that would help us put the house on the market. She also was willing to work with our realtor to transfer keys, etc. when the job was complete. I recommend Wendy fully and enthusiastically to anyone wanting painting done, whatever the size or scope of the job. We had a wonderful experience with her."

"It stared out well in terms of removing the paper. They allocated one week and it took a long time to remove the paper, towed the end they were in a rush. The painting was done hurriedly and not good. They weren't using skilled people. The paint job was fair and didn't meet my standards. When you hire a painter you expect them to be better then you. I complained and they weren't interested in listening to me. The foreman on the job came back and touched things up himself and probably lost a day from that. I think they need to be more honest in what they're doing. Its partly my fault we went for low cost and we got what we paid for."

FAQs for wallcovering or wallpaper removal projects in Baltimore, MD

You can determine your wall type through tactile and visual tests. Start by checking the surface by inserting a thumbtack, feeling the texture, tapping to listen for a hollow sound, and examining cut edges under outlet covers. Drywall feels soft with a hollow sound, while plaster is hard and solid. These checks are especially useful in older homes where plaster is more common.

After removing wallpaper, you can dispose of small amounts in your household trash. However, if you are removing wallpaper from your entire home, you’ll need to contact a waste removal service, rent a dumpster, or arrange a special pick-up with your municipality’s waste service. Wallpaper cannot be recycled, so it is important to keep it separate from the recycling stream to comply with local waste guidelines.

It takes a professional from several hours up to a full day to remove wallpaper from a single room. The removal duration depends on the type of adhesive, the age of the wallpaper, the condition of the wall, and the number of layers present. High ceilings and additional layers increase the time required, as extra care is taken to protect the wall surface while ensuring a complete removal.

Using fabric softener with water is an option for removing wallpaper, but its effectiveness is limited and depends on the type of wallpaper being used. This low-cost method is most effective on modern, less porous wallpaper and may not yield optimal results on vintage or textured varieties. It might also affect wall surface preparation for new coverings if the residue is not completely removed. For stubborn adhesive or textured surfaces, professional solutions are recommended to ensure a thorough removal without damaging the underlying wall.
