"Edgar has done everything from tearing down and rebuilding brick stoop walls and topping with new cement toppers, repointing brickwork on the main house to repairing a very high chimney on a terra cotta roof. He also followed us to our new home in a different county and did timely repairs and topped our stone chimney and acid washed the stone fireplace inside. He is very professional and polite, does great work at a fair price. "

"Chris Inch and his co-worker, I think his name is Alex did an excellent job in repointing chimney, making masonry repairs on side of my duplex in city that required stucco repairs, caulking, repaired front porch steps. They just went the extra mile - rehung my exterior shutter and found a piece so that it could be rehung. Friendly yet very professional. They know what they are doing. I would not hesitate to hire them again. All A's except one B and that was because I got a quote back in November, and I responded with more questions but then I never heard back. Out of the blue, I get a call in January and they are ready to do my work. Very responsive once on the scene. But again, excellent job. I also think the price was very reasonable."

"Jim and Jeremy did a fabulous job. They completed scraped the whole roof then put on a primer coat and then the finished coat. This is the best I ever remember the roof looking andI have lived here for 74 years. I highly recommend them for any work. They do a great job, they do not waste time and they make sure you are satisfied. I can not say enough good things about them. Well the best thing I can say is that they made my wife happy."

"Recently purchased a Mendota fireplace unit. Worked directly with the owners, Gary and JoAnn Richardson, to select best model for our home. We found they were knowledgable and quite helpful to assist us with important decisions regarding fireplace features and proper placement in the room. Gary, who is a certified installer, did the entire project including installation of the unit, gas line connection, venting, carpentry and drywall. He is very skilled in this specialized work. Our township required 3 project inspections and all were approved with no exceptions. We recommend this company for any fireplace or stove project."

"Finally getting around to a review since having master bath  remodeled. Joe and Rich did a great job and tried to accomodate my needs and wishes.  They removed a 1992 whirlpool tub and molded shower and replaced it with a modern bathtub and beautiful tiled shower. The tiled floors were installed perfectly and Rich suggested radiant heat which was perfect during this cold winter. Rich installed the bathroom door as well and there was no need for any other contractor to come in to do any of the work. The bathroom looks wonderful and it is a pleasure to use it. During construction a  second floor toilet value leaked and created a mess requiring a remediation company to come in to dry walls out. They took off moulding and tore down drywall. Rich was very kind to come in and do the repairs needed to get us back to normal. I am very appreciative of his willingness to help us out though it had nothing to do with the job we hired him for.He also repaired drywall from an old leak in my foyer and saved time and money by finding a creative solution to the repair.  Pretty smart guy who knows the business.  And to top it off, during all this my laundry room sink fell off the wall and Rich jumped in to take care of that. All and all he has been there to do the work he promised and to help with these unexpected issues during that time. <br /> Thanks to Rich and Joe! <br />"

"We had Yorkwindowman replace 7 windows, the back entrance door and the screen door which were so crooked we could barely open, close or lock them. Our windows let rain, and wind in and were single hung type. Ron's crew worked well together, showed up on time and did a quality job on time at the quoted price. They cleaned up everyday and these Softlite Imperial LS, Triple pane, double hung windows are great. As soon as they were installed we could notice the noise level in the house coming from the outside virtually disappeared. A driving rain came the day after the job was complete and thank goodness no water, wind, etc. I highly recommend Yorkwindowman and these windows. The total cost was approximately $11,000.00 which was competitive."

"I can't say enough good things about Earthtones Hardscape. Jeff gave us a quote for cleaning and sealing our paver patio. He kept in constant communication as to when our job was scheduled and when his workers would arrive. They showed up on time and stayed late until our job was finished. They leveled several pavers, removed stains and sealed the pavers. They protected our sliders from the spray, hosed them off, and even moved our patio furniture. I was impressed with their attention to detail. They made sure that we were completely satisfied before they left. They went above and beyond our expectations. Highly recommend Earthtones Hardscape for all your Hardscape needs."

"The review score here (C) reflects a service that was a mix of good and bad, instead of mediocre service across the board. We had Brothers replace our roof. Short story: the roof seems to be good as of now, and the crew was friendly and competent, but there were several problems of varying severity that should have been foreseen during the original walk-through. Long story: see below. First, the good: We obtained four estimates before choosing Brothers (three with excellent online reviews and personal recommendations, and one that came by and knocked on our door). Brothers gave a reasonable price relative to the other reviews; it was not the lowest, but it was sensible. The inspection and estimate were provided in a timely fashion, without an overly aggressive sales pitch (unlike one of the other companies). The crew was friendly, competent, and efficient, completing a large job in a single day. While we won't know for sure how well the roof holds up until we've had a few severe summer storms over the next few years, it looks great and has a solid warranty. Now, the bad: There were several problems during the job that should have been avoided by the original inspection and estimate. Here they are in increasing significance. a) We have a large tree limiting access to our shared driveway. Obviously, this tree did not suddenly appear between the estimate and the job. When the crew arrived, they said they could not get the dump truck (for old roof removal) up our driveway, so I had to do a rush trimming job on the tree. They said they could not get the delivery truck (for new roof materials) up our driveway, period. This was not just due to the tree, but also because the driveway is shared between our house and our next-door neighbor, and because of a large manhole cover in the driveway for sewer access. The deliveryman said that the truck (50,000 lbs plus 20,000 lbs load) would go through the driveway, destroying it for both us and our neighbor. Instead, the load was dropped off from the street, which ultimately was not a problem, but it things got off to a rough start. b) During the original walk-through, I told the inspection/estimate guy that we would have occasional roof leaks in the vicinity of the chimney if there was debris on the roof, because the water would back up around the chimney and its flashing. However, a solution was not suggested until the crew was halfway through the job, when the foreman told us we needed a "cricket" around the chimney. Because this was not in the original estimate, it was an additional cost that should have been foreseen in the original discussion. Ultimately, this wasn't a huge problem, by itself, but it's part of the theme here. c) We have two skylights. When the roof was last replaced around the skylights (years ago), that roofer pulled the skylights, replaced the roof, and reinstalled the skylights with new flashing. Those skylights have not given us a problem. During the current inspection/estimate, we were asked what we wanted to do about the skylights. I said they worked fine, without leaks, so could Brothers simply do the same thing the last roofers did? The inspector said that would work. However, towards the end of the roofing job, the foreman told me that the profile of the skylights was too low to use standard flashing. The flashing would have to be modified, and I would have to sign a waiver agreeing that the skylights might leak. This didn't sound like a good way to replace a roof that was not previously leaking, so I asked for other options. He said he could get new skylights and install them that day, so I agreed to that solution and additional cost. He measured the existing skylights, called his company and a warehouse, and ran out to get the new skylights. When he returned, it seems that there was a miscommunication on the measurements, and the new ones did not fit correctly (undersized). He told me he could install them in a way that would not incur leaks, but that cosmetically they would look unusual from inside the house, and indeed they do. Specifically, the skylight supporting structure is visible when it should not be. We complained to Brothers, and they asked what they could do to make us happy. My wife suggested they send a contractor to modify the interior molding and trim to restore the proper appearance, which is a small job for a competent contractor, and thus not an unreasonable request. Brothers said they would get back to us in a few days. Over the next week, we repeatedly contacted Brothers, until a week later they told us that the skylight problem was our fault, and that we should have asked them to replace the skylights during the original inspection/estimate. We would have happily done that very thing, but the multiple skylight problems (non-standard flashing and incorrect size) did not arise until the day of the job, and even then it's difficult to see how it's our fault that they acquired the wrong skylights. We then contacted a manager multiple times, who eventually offered two unsightly options: raw wood inside the skylight (i.e., not matched to the surrounding wood, and no option for us to stain it first) or white synthetic material that wouldn't match the surrounding ceiling. Because neither option sounded good, we asked them for a small refund to compensate for us doing the cosmetic fix ourselves, but they never replied to that request. I'll repeat that we would have happily paid for proper skylights if that necessity was explained during the initial inspection, and we also tried to pay for proper skylights when the problem arose during the job, but that's not how it worked out."

"Jason and his crew did an excellent job. He came to house, assessed the problem with the current stucco on house and gave me options for replacement. He prioritized areas that needed to be immediately fixed and gave me a couple of different options for completion of work. Stayed within my budget and completed on time. <br />"

FAQs for brick or stone siding: install or completely replace projects in Stewartstown, PA

Brick siding offers numerous advantages, including high durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and lasting for generations. It provides natural insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures year-round. Brick is fire-resistant, improving home safety, and reduces external noise for a quieter indoor environment. Its timeless aesthetic appeal boosts curb appeal and can increase your home's resale value.

Yes, you can add brick to an existing house. One option is to remove the current siding and install full brick masonry, which involves laying traditional bricks with mortar for a solid brick exterior. Alternatively, you can opt for brick veneer siding, a thinner layer of real or manufactured brick applied over the existing structure. Brick veneer is typically more affordable and easier to install while still providing the aesthetic benefits of brick. Both methods can enhance your home's appearance and value.

Yes, installing brick siding often provides a significant return on investment. With an average ROI of around 77%, and some returns exceeding 80%, brick siding enhances curb appeal, energy efficiency, and longevity, making your home more attractive to potential buyers and potentially increasing resale value.

Brick siding is known for its exceptional longevity, often lasting over 100 years when properly maintained. Regular maintenance, like repointing mortar joints, ensures its durability over time. Brick veneer, while thinner than full brick masonry, is durable and can last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Both options offer long-lasting protection and value for your home.

When choosing brick siding, consider your budget, as costs can vary depending on brick type and installation method. Also, consider your desired aesthetic; different bricks offer various colors, textures, and styles to complement your home's architecture. Installation time and complexity are factors, with options like brick veneer being quicker and less labor-intensive than full brick masonry. Additionally, assess the maintenance requirements and durability to select the best option for your long-term needs.

Alternatives to brick siding include vinyl siding, which is cost-effective and low-maintenance and offers a variety of colors and styles. Wood siding provides a natural, classic look but requires more upkeep to prevent weather damage. Fiber cement siding is durable and can mimic the appearance of wood or masonry without the high maintenance. Each alternative has its own advantages, so consider factors like budget, aesthetics, and maintenance when making your choice.
