"Very well. The men worked very hard in very hot weather. They completed the job a day early. They always left me a text when they took a break or needed to pick up something and they cleaned up their mess. I am very pleased and will use them when I’m ready to work on the side yard."

"Pride paving was great to work with. Ezekiel helped with a bunch of our properties here in South OC and even went above and beyond the scope of work. I would highly recommend for commercial and residential property owners."

"I had a lot of trouble finding a company in my budget for front yard drought tolerant landscaping. My lot is pretty small and the grass died out years ago. There's a cap to how much is worth it based on the value of my property. Sadly, most of the initial quotes I got were almost double my max budget. The closest was a guy who wanted to just plant from succulents and cover the whole yard in gravel. So when I found Urban Soil on Angie's List I told Zach up front my story and my budget. I didn't want him to do the work if he thought he couldn't work within my budget. He not only was able to work within my budget but he did a nice simple design with some contrast between mulch and decomposed granite. To my surprise the quote included a full drip irrigation system with timer. We went over some specifics and added a few things to the job and it was still under my budget so we moved forward. Throughout the whole process Zach's communication was great. He kept me in the loop when the electrician came out to put in the exterior plug for the timer. He let me know when he was coming by to spray the small amount of live grass with weed killer. He scheduled the installation and his crew showed up on time. The crew was friendly and got the job done in a day, with a few things to button up the next day. The design looks great and the landscape installation was great. My only complaints are there was a little sloppiness to the installation of the drip irrigation timer. It looked a little rushed and the timer was hanging at an angle on the wall. I ended up just fixing that stuff myself, which only took a few minutes of my Saturday morning. Just a little disappointing the guys couldn't get an actual wall anchor. It's not enough to deduct a lot, so I gave a B in quality but it's more like a B+ Small complaints aside I was very happy with the whole process with Zach and Urban Soil. I definitely recommend them!"

"Work went in perfect way, without any issues or problems. We originally hired a contractor to construct our pool. once this was completed... we hired Jacob and his people to remodel our backyard. Originally, we hired Jacob for the work, and once we hired him, we went and hired another company to do the pool. it came out as a great combination and we are very happy with our decision."

"Val quoted the front (driveway and porch) well below the 2 other bids received, so had him do an area in the backyard (700 sq ft) and it still came out less than the other bidders. Took about 8 working days to demo and install the paver system. Looks fantastic. Added a sealer when the job was done to protect my investment that requires a 3 day cure time. Couldn't be more pleased with the work, the team and the overall experience. Shop around before making your decision. You can't beat Falkon!"

"Removed all the dead grass and expanded the planting areas, kept one small area of grass since the cats do eat grass once in a while, the two small walls created a nice accent in the back end of the yard and split the hilly part of the yard and we use these small walls to place succulent planters.  The steps make it easy to navigate this hilly part. <br /> two trees were planted one was a semi dwarf orange tree and the other one was a mesquite tree, which requires very little water, gravel was placed where  there was no grass and slate stepping stones create a nice pathway. <br /> The job took about two weeks, we were told 3 weeks, but it actually only took two.  The workers were all very polite and came every day at the same time.  Overall we are really happy with the job <br /> We hired Seth because he seemed to understand what we wanted was able to make suggestions that we adopted, listened to our concerns and wants and the price was very reasonable"

",Ray was great at providing a detailed estimate of the project and asking the right questions as to what we wanted to happen.  There was a two-day delay at the start of the project but once it started,  workers showed up every day until the project was complete which took a full three-weeks. They cleaned up at the end of each day.  He used his own crew and they were extremely courteous throughout and were careful not to damage my other landscape plants or hardscape.  <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Studio City, CA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
