"I honestly am not sure whether Busy Bees merits a B or a D-, as I don't know much about how these services normally work. So I will tell the story, and you can decide. I made the appointment to have my vents cleaned because I purchased a Groupon for the service. The appointment was for 10:00. Busy Bees (Anthony) called around 10:00 to let me know he was running late. I had scheduled two other workers for the same day (so that I would only have to take one day off work), so this meant he would be bumping into another contractor, but we managed to work around it. When he arrived, Anthony informed me that the Groupon wouldn't really cover what I needed, which was some sort of power wash through the whole system. He pointed out the brick dust in my vents. It felt a little like a bait and switch, but the brick dust was apparent and I have no idea how one goes about cleaning such a system, so I agreed. I have never priced this service, but the price did--and does--seem reasonable. Anthony and his son were very friendly and worked with me to try to find a way to perform the service without letting my cats escape (the front door had to be propped open). They were efficient and seemed to do the job pretty quickly. When they left, I was tied up with another worker, so it wasn't until everyone was gone that I walked around the house and discovered that most of the vent covers had not been replaced. One was dangling from the ceiling from one screw, ready to fall on my head. I got a screwdriver and went around the house and put the vent covers back on. The next time I turned the heat on--a couple weeks later, as it was still warm when Busy Bees did the work--I heard a loud rattling noise. I determined that it was coming from one of the vents. I took off the cover and fished around and tried to figure out what the problem was, but I could not. So I called Anthony, who said he would call me back and make an appointment. I waited a week and called again; apparently he had forgotten, but he did schedule an appointment with me right then--and he agreed to a morning appointment so I wouldn't have to miss too much work. He moved another appointment so that he could arrive at 9:00 AM. Ironically, though, when 9:00 the day of the appointment arrived, no Anthony. I waited for about half an hour and then called. Apparently I had been left off the schedule. He did then come over as quickly as he could and was apologetic (but of course, I still missed half a day of work). He and his son checked out the rattling noise and decided it was coming from the third floor vent--and that they were not responsible. The only diagnosis he could make was that the air pressure was so much better now that the system was clean that the air was now moving some loose object that was already there. The only way to get the noise to stop is to leave the vent wide open, which means that all the heat shoots straight up to the third floor, where it's much too hot, and the rest of the house remains cold (anyone with a three-story row home will understand). Or I have to put up with the rattling noise, which is what I do. So overall, I'm quite sorry that I paid nearly $300 to have my heating system work less well than it did before. Is is Busy Bees' fault? And were they running a scam with the Groupon, using it to get a foot in the door and then sell more expensive services? Or is Anthony an honest man, and I just had a bad experience? You'll have to read other reviews and decide for yourselves. Even if he's honest, though, the service still rates a low B at best.
Update: The banging/rattling noise finally stopped on its own, so I'm going to up my overall grade to a "B," as I can finally use my HVAC again without being driven insane by the noise. Apparently whatever happened, it wasn't permanent damage."
