"My home was under contract for sale and we had to correct inspection masonry deficiencies prior to closing the sale. Although the deficiencies were not complex, the fact that we had already relocated out of state made getting this work accomplished challenging. I found Makay Masonry on Home Advisor. They contacted me immediately and I explained the challenges of getting this work accomplished while not present locally. They were very responsive and provided them a copy of the inspection report which identified the areas needing repairs. The repairs completed within 1 week of our first communication. They made before and after photographs of each area of repair (point repairs of deteriorating mortar joints above garage doors, doors and window and re-mortaring of crown of chimney). This was necessary to ensure the buyers were provided evidence that the repairs were accomplished since many of the repair areas were inaccessible by normal means. The repairs were outstanding and the mortar was near perfect match in color (outstanding considering the home is 32 years old). I would strongly recommend Makay Masonry to anyone needing masonry work for expert repairs at a reasonable cost."

FAQs for brick or stone siding: repair or partially replace projects in Virginia Beach, VA

Stone veneer isn’t a weekend DIY. Even lightweight faux panels are heavy and must be anchored, flashed, and sealed to keep water out. Missteps can lead to cracked stone, leaks, or injuries. A licensed siding contractor arrives with scaffolding, masonry tools, and the know-how to set each piece safely and neatly, giving you a long-lasting, professional finish.

Stone veneer durability is robust when expert installation and proper maintenance are employed. When installed with precision, regularly cleaned, and sealed as required, stone veneer maintains its integrity for 25 to 75 years. Inadequate installation, however, leads to water intrusion and structural issues that compromise its longevity. Consistent upkeep and adherence to quality installation standards ensure decades of reliable performance.

Covering the entire exterior of a home with stone veneer is feasible but comes with a significant cost increase. Full coverage escalates both material and labor expenses due to the additional square footage required. Many homeowners reduce costs by applying stone veneer selectively—such as around entries, foundations, or architectural accents—while still achieving an upscale appearance and enhancing overall curb appeal.

Installing stone veneer over brick or stucco is entirely possible when the underlying surface is stable and properly prepared. The substrate must be clean, dry, and free of any loose material to support a secure application. Additionally, any areas of flaking stucco or deteriorated mortar must be patched and allowed to cure fully before a professional applies the new veneer, ensuring lasting durability.

Stone veneer siding offers a substantial cost advantage compared to full-thickness natural stone. It costs 25% of the price of natural stone because it is manufactured from concrete and lightweight aggregates. This method delivers the genuine appearance of stone while featuring a thinner profile that simplifies shipping, accelerates installation, and consistently reduces material expenses.

For a 250 square foot exterior area, stone siding installation costs range from $9,800 to $18,000, while installing stone veneer costs between $5,000 and $6,000. This clear cost breakdown demonstrates the significant savings achieved with stone veneer, which uses a lighter construction method that minimizes both material and labor expenses. Homeowners benefit from these lower costs while still attaining the attractive look of natural stone.
