"After calling StructuralMD and confirming that this service was what we needed, an appointment was quickly set up and George (Chief Engineer) showed up on time. He closely inspected the area in question and provided a great deal of detail regarding his findings. George answered every question we had and spent whatever time required to provide additional guidance, suggestions and tips. His inspection confirmed that there were no structural issues, and helped us prepare to hire a contractor to complete the (non-structural) work that we originally sought. He also urged us to contact him again to ask any other questions that might have. A professional outfit with excellent customer service!"

"Very professional experience with Mina, the engineer who thoroughly explained his findings and suggested remedies. He confirmed house settlement suspicions and causes in a lengthy, detailed report complete with photos. I trust Kiro Engineering and would highly recommend them for structural engineering consultation and peace of mind."

"We contacted Cowan's during the busy season, he responded by text only. We explained what we needed. It took about 2 weeks of texting and trying to getting responses to final set a time for him to come out. One of his workers came and did the cleaning. He did not cover anything around the stove, he left hand and foot (soot) prints everywhere he touched and walked. He left my fromt door open the whole time he was here (35* degrees outside) He did a partial job of cleaning up after himself. When I mentioned to him about the marks he left, all he could say was I don't have rags to clean. I spoke to Mr. Cowen about how unhappy I was with the way things were left and he said he would talk his worker and just use soap and water to clean everything. I should not have to clean up after Cowan's job. When I offer to pay him he told me to keep my money and Goodbye."

"<p>Brian came and looked over the job we wanted done. He gave us a reasonable price; set an approximate date, called and affirmed the date. He and his crew came<strong> on time</strong> and finished<strong> on time</strong> doing just <strong>what they promised to do</strong>. We are very happy and have absolutely no complaints. We highly recommend Brian and his crew.</p> <br />"

"Previous piering companies had tried and failed to solve our sinking foundation problem with undersized piers. After researching available options and getting quotes from a few companies, we chose Expert House Movers to excavate around our foundation, install custom made piers to support the weight of our house (full masonry, stone foundation, slate roof and terazzo floos) and spray a rubberized coating on the below ground portion of our foundation to stop future water penetrations in our stone foundation. They showed up promptly, performed the necessary work in a timely matter and were careful of the landscaping we wanted to keep. The job itself took longer than anticipated mostly due to additional work needed once the foundation was exposed (tuckpointing, new window wells, etc). There was minor damage to the sprinkler system and the water service line, but we were compensated for the damage by EHM. My only complaint was the amount of old drainage pipes and broken concrete that was left on site during the work and not removed until the end of the job. <br />"

"An appointment was set up with Marc to come and give us an estimate on doing our basement.  Affordable was our second of three estimates so we kind of knew the process and questions to ask.  A co-worker had them do work at his home and was very satisfied.  Marc was on time and looked at our basement then sat and talked about his findings and what would be done.  At first, I was not to keen on him as he told me there was mold on a piece of furniture.  I did not think it was and told him so as I knew exactly what it was.  In his defense, the basement does not have very good lighting.  Being a woman, I really don't like having someone tell ME but after sitting with Marc I found him to be very knowledgable in the business.  Out of the three estimates we got, we narrowed it down to two.  The third company used a different method that needed to be cleaned out every two years.  The second company used the same method as Affordable and was priced comparable; their contract had too much wording on it and they charged for the repairs if they found something wrong with your footing.  Having a home which is 85 years old, we did not want this extra expense.  Like most people we did not have the money just laying around and applied for a loan to cover it but had to wait for the banks approval.  Marc was more then accomodating.  Very willing to work with us.  Even offered their financing but we had already gone through our bank. <br /> The crew of ten plus arrived on time.  My husband took the day off just in case anything came up.  He kept sending me pictures of the work in progress.  He said everything was draped in plastic.  Entry ways also.  He said the crew worked and kept on working.  The job was suppose to take three days and by noon when he called me the trench was done, pipe was placed and he then stated that he thought they would be done today.  When I came home from work at 3:15, I was shocked to see that you could not tell anyone had been doing work at our home.  Everything was cleaned up.  Not a trace of dust.  I was so nervous to get this done and now I can't wait for rain to see how this system works.  What made this job go so fast was the fact that we had thrown out a lot of crap from our basement and the crew had ample room to work.  I suggest anyone having this done to do the same.  They will move somethings for you but it is worth doing some tossing before hand.  Thank you to the crew of Affordable for being so professional and for getting it done in one day.  Now I don't have to waste one of my PTL days.  I can use it to be with my grandson! <br /> <br />"

"I'm in the process of purchasing a fixer-upper, and I wanted a structural engineer to confirm that there were no major issues present before closing. After reading through Angie's List and shopping around for the best price on a basic consultation, these guys were the best priced of the lot, by far. Incredibly responsive, smart, punctual, and helpful, they were quite patient when given the runaround on the lockbox code, and did a fantastic and thorough visual inspection once they entered the premises. I can't say enough good things about this company, and this area gem truly deserves the highest praise! <br />"

FAQs for engineer structural projects in Wildwood, NJ

To determine if a wall is load-bearing, start by checking your home’s original plans or asking a structural engineer. Exterior walls always carry weight, but interior ones only do if they sit over a beam or run perpendicular to floor joists. If a wall lines up with posts in the basement or falls directly under the roof ridge, assume it’s load-bearing and call a professional before attempting to remove it with a sledgehammer.

Calculating the wall load and sizing the beam must be performed by experts to ensure structural safety. You need a structural engineer to evaluate all load aspects and determine the proper beam dimensions. A professional engineer performs precise calculations and advises on any necessary enhancements, such as larger footings for support. An inspector then verifies that the revised structure meets all safety and code regulations before the finishing work begins.

Hiring a structural engineer is essential for ensuring your home remains structurally sound during any major renovation. Their responsibility is to deliver expert assessments and design recommendations for load-bearing modifications. The average cost to hire a structural engineer is $500, with rates ranging from $350 to $800. Consulting a licensed, experienced engineer guarantees that every structural project, whether constructing a new home or remodeling an existing one, is completed safely and efficiently.

Almost all load-bearing wall removals require a permit as they support everything above it, and building departments want proof that the new beam can handle the weight. Pulling a permit triggers plan review and inspections that confirm the work meets local code and safety standards. Skipping this step can lead to fines or being forced to rebuild later, so have your contractor pull the permit before work starts.

Removing a load-bearing wall to create an entrance for a carport or covered patio is a task that comes with defined cost implications. This modification requires extra structural adjustments to ensure safety and proper integration with the adjoining space. When you convert a wall into an entryway, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. The additional work required for this conversion reinforces the home’s integrity and ensures compliance with applicable building codes.
