"Meena took his time and throughly explained what has to be done to our home to improve living conditions. Not only did he not try to over sell us on products that were not necessary he steered us in the right direction which was greatly appreciated in these tumultuous financial times. We are extremely satisfied with his work."

"Horrible - I had Mike out October of 2019 he impressed my wife and I with his knowledge and what seemed like a caring, stand behind his work man. I saved for 2 years to have Access basement system’s come out and do the job right. On day one the team gutted all exterior walls I was impressed. Day 2 woke up to water all over the basement because they did not reconnect a drain and water from the shower was dumped in the basement. On day 2 only 2 of his crew showed up and that was all we had for the next 2 weeks. The guys that did the work were good guys. No issue there only saw Mike to get money. Water is still coming through the walls worse then before and causing mold. 5 calls And NO response from the family business that cares. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and hope that we can get this resolved. Mike if you see this I hope that we can work this out and you hold up to “we will take care of you like family. “"

"This is one of the best companies of which I know, hands down. Jeff is very knowledgeable and willing to explain everything clearly, in great detail and willing to answer many questions. And perhaps most importantly, as far as I can tell, the content of his character is as good as it comes. He genuinely shows with his actions that doing a good job of helping people he doesn't even know seems to be more important to him than making a profit (which is not something I can say about nearly any other company that comes to mind). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I reached out to him a few months prior to writing this review, concerned about something in the structure of my house and stressed out. He responded promptly. Then, (still feeling stressed to a high degree), I followed up with one question and another and another - I don't know how many times. I honestly think most would have said something like "I'm sorry, but I can't continue responding to these forever." He said, "let's see if we can get this off your mind." and talked to me on the phone for a long time, answering many more questions I had, looking at pictures sent over email, and helping explain a good solution to something unrelated to the issue I began with. He asked me to send pictures when I was done (knowing that it would make me feel better if he looked at it afterwards, I believe). He never asked for any money, and when I asked if I could pay him, he said no. (I finally insisted. He put in a large amount of time, and I strongly believe he was owed more than he would let me give him.)"

FAQs for engineer structural projects in York, PA

To determine if a wall is load-bearing, start by checking your home’s original plans or asking a structural engineer. Exterior walls always carry weight, but interior ones only do if they sit over a beam or run perpendicular to floor joists. If a wall lines up with posts in the basement or falls directly under the roof ridge, assume it’s load-bearing and call a professional before attempting to remove it with a sledgehammer.

Calculating the wall load and sizing the beam must be performed by experts to ensure structural safety. You need a structural engineer to evaluate all load aspects and determine the proper beam dimensions. A professional engineer performs precise calculations and advises on any necessary enhancements, such as larger footings for support. An inspector then verifies that the revised structure meets all safety and code regulations before the finishing work begins.

Hiring a structural engineer is essential for ensuring your home remains structurally sound during any major renovation. Their responsibility is to deliver expert assessments and design recommendations for load-bearing modifications. The average cost to hire a structural engineer is $500, with rates ranging from $350 to $800. Consulting a licensed, experienced engineer guarantees that every structural project, whether constructing a new home or remodeling an existing one, is completed safely and efficiently.

Almost all load-bearing wall removals require a permit as they support everything above it, and building departments want proof that the new beam can handle the weight. Pulling a permit triggers plan review and inspections that confirm the work meets local code and safety standards. Skipping this step can lead to fines or being forced to rebuild later, so have your contractor pull the permit before work starts.

Removing a load-bearing wall to create an entrance for a carport or covered patio is a task that comes with defined cost implications. This modification requires extra structural adjustments to ensure safety and proper integration with the adjoining space. When you convert a wall into an entryway, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. The additional work required for this conversion reinforces the home’s integrity and ensures compliance with applicable building codes.
