"David came to the rescue after my first experience with grubs. I tried to solve my grub problem myself, following advice I found online. The grubs continued to live, and raccoons would destroy my yard every night. I called David out of desperation, and he came quickly to inspect the yard and confirm it was grubs. He placed the proper chemical on the lawn and soon my lawn was safe from all critters. He also inspected my large and overwhelming back yard, gave some good advice about the shrubs and future landscaping ideas. He came back to make sure the grubs had died and fertilized my lawn to make it happy again. Working with MidWest was a pleasure. I highly recommend them - now i know why MidWest is the Best! I can't wait for Spring!"

"We recently worked with Mike Rosian to build an attached 20x24 cabana in our backyard. We were convinced we wanted to work with Mike after we saw what a beautiful job he did on our neighbors pergola. Not only do we love the final product but from the start Mike was an absolute pleasure to work with and he was a man of his word. His responsiveness, organization, guidance, knowledge, work ethic, and business acumen are only a FEW of the reasons we are so happy. Thanks mike, you turned our backyard into paradise!"

"After a lot of research, pricing and checking references, we chose Mario and F&M Masonry to rebuild our front landing and steps. We could not be happier with the result. Mario is extremely professional and really knows his stuff. He made sure we understood there were several ways to handle our issues and was clear why he was recommending to do it his way. Our front steps were literally peeling away from our landing. Additionally, the pavers that had been inappropriately used as surface material by a previous owner were constantly coming loose. The old landing had also been built partially covering two outlets, making them inaccessible. The big unknown was whether it was just the steps that were a problem or the entire landing. The result was many bids coming in ridiculously high as contractors assumed they'd have to rebuild the entire landing in addition to the steps. Mario, however, took the time to remove enough old material to see that the problem was just the steps. In rebuilding the step, F&M took the corrects steps of anchoring their newly poured steps to the landing using rebar and other appropriate materials. He made sure to explain each step of the process. As he put it, "your steps will be here long after we are all gone!" Another example of the attention to detail was that Manny himself was on site almost the entire time, and, he personally designed the pattern of the bluestone ahead of time on paper, then again with the bluestone to get our approval before they were cemented into place. While F&M was neither the least expensive nor the most expensive option, I was most concerned about the job being done correctly. While certainly not a bargain, relative to other bids and given the high level of attention to doing the job correctly, I found the price to be "good". My only very minor complaint is that some of the mortar between the bluestone "spilled" onto the stone and looks a bit sloppy in places. There was also cement splatter on our front door (I've since repainted the door). I called and he is supposed to be sending someone out to try and clean up the mortar on the landing. It's minor but is the one negative to an otherwise perfect job. Overall, I would highly recommend Manny and F&M for your hardscape work. The end result is a gorgeous front landing and steps which we've been getting many compliments on. Our needing to repair our stairs was the result of a previous owner going for the cheapest option, but not the correct one, in building the steps. With F&M Masonry, your job will be done correctly and on time. We could really tell how much Manny cares about his work and you will appreciate having someone who gives such personal attention. It was a pleasure to work with Manny."

"We had a 750 sq foot elevated deck built by Joel and the building team led by Matt. Joel was fantastic to work with from his first visit, design proposal and quote. The building team led by Matt did extremely high quality work and were great to design with as the project progressed. They were very neat and hard working. We were delighted with the overall experience, result and value for money. We would definitely work with them again and highly recommend them."

"Although crew generally tried to clean up on a daily basis, there were some cleanliness issues, namely, inadequate protection from concrete dust (e.g. no plastic sheeting to protect stored possessions) and carpenters wearing same muddy footwear as had been worn working outside on decks at other jobs.   Duration of job was much longer than expected due to crew working on other, outdoor, jobs intermittently. On the positive side, several additional services involving electric and carpentry were performed as requested after work began."

FAQs for outdoor kitchen building service projects in North Chicago, IL

Building your own pizza oven can be a cost-effective option if you already possess the necessary firebricks or materials and have the skills to complete the project. When you have the required supplies on hand, you save on material costs and labor fees. However, if you need to source every component, a pre-made kit may not deliver the same savings.

Fire bricks are engineered to withstand the high temperatures generated inside a pizza oven, protecting the structure from cracking or spalling. Standard bricks can fail under intense heat, potentially damaging the oven and creating safety risks. By using true fire-rated bricks, homeowners maintain consistent cooking temperatures, preserve the oven’s structural integrity, and reduce the likelihood of costly repairs. The modest increase in material cost is offset by longer service life and safer operation.

An optimal pizza oven installation positions the opening exactly between 36 and 48 inches above the ground to guarantee clear visibility and safe, comfortable access. This height optimizes heat distribution and ergonomic use. In addition, dome height can vary: shorter domes produce the signature soft, charred crust of Neapolitan pies, whereas taller domes are ideal for generating the robust baking environment required for New York–style pizzas.
