I regret hiring them. Quality of work is decent, but the customer service wasn't. Be watchful of this contractor in regards to money. I was given an initial estimate for $19,850 for a bathroom build, including a plumbing cost of $4,950, a carpentry cost of $1,150, and a budget for the bathroom accessories/tile/grout/vanity/showerbase/valve of $2,200. I told Slav I wanted to have my friend do the plumbing and requested a new estimate. The new estimate removed the plumbing cost, but then increased the carpentry cost by $1,700 and removed the $2,200 budget for the bathroom accessories/tile/grout/vanity/showerbase/valve. I saw this, but figured there wouldn't be any more issues and it was still lower than a couple other quotes I had gotten. However, later on I learned that at least the other quotes had included a shower door and install, which is something that Melco had known from the get go I wanted. I waited a couple months until I had secured financing and got back in touch with Melco to start work. Things were going fine, although they pushed to come earlier in the day than was convenient for us which was disruptive and unsatisfactory. August 31 I asked about whether we would need to get the shower door for them to install. Slav informs me that the cost of installation was not built into his estimate, even though I had showed him pictures of the bathroom I had wanted during our initial consult in April and those pictures had included a glass shower door. Then Slav said that shower door installation would cost starting at $350-$500. I brought up that I had showed him the pictures back in April and he said that he understood that but nothing changed. I asked for recessed lights, since the bathroom wouldn't have enough light without them. Slav charged me a fair cost for installing those of $80 apiece. After I saw what the shower floor was going to look like (a non-tile ready pan installed by my plumber), I thought it looked tacky so I requested tile on the floor and asked whether it was a tile ready base. Slav gave me a quote on the phone of a $600-$1,000 cost increase for a tiled shower floor. That would mean the cost of just finishing the shower would increase from $2,950 to a range of $3,550-$3,950. $600 increase seemed reasonable but then, later on, Slav sent me in an email a $1,550 quote for the cost of having a tiled shower floor as well as tiled wall instead. That would mean that he would be charging me $4,500 JUST TO FINISH THE SHOWER, which didn't even include the showerhead or valve or shower door. Being charged $4,500 for only a shower tile job, where I am supplying the tile and grout and showerhead/valve and shower shelves, is ridiculous. Before he claims it was too much work, the initial quote of $2,950 for this work had the following items: "Install 3 x 4 prefab shower base. Install 1/2" moisture resistant boards for shower surrounding walls. Tile shower walls with porcelain/ceramic tiles.Install (1) decorative boarde

This is one of the projects when we let homeowner to do part of the scope of work to save on cost. Homeowner signed Construction Agreement without any question asked & Proposal included every little detail of the project. From that time everything went off the schedule & control. Homeowner used his neighbor (unlicensed plumber) to do plumbing part, which put us back for about 4 weeks. Homeowner coordinate with plumber to install fiberglass shower pan which was listed in original Proposal. When it was installed, she ask us to do tiled shower pan & add more decorative tile on the shower walls, which was evaluated & new cost presented. She decided its to expensive & decided to go different direction. We excepted that & continue work on the project. There was a time when we had to charge more for certain parts of the project completion, slightly different from estimated cost, due to upcoming complications & materials cost increase ($600 instead of $500 for joists repairs) My crew & myself were so patient, respective & flexible to all request & changes through the project such as starting work day at later time, making corrections to the work being done by other subs & final clean up. Homeowner paid us in full & we appreciated that.

In last two years I had many remodeling projects with different companies. Now I remodeled my master bathroom with MelCo and it was the best experience. Despite all demolishing and doing bathroom from the scratch, they kept everything as clean as possible. They were always in time, working full day, always let you know that they are done and leaving. Every stage of job was done as scheduled. Everything installed right and clean. They were helpful with suggestions, but never pushed to do it their way. Every job done professionally and with care. My bathroom is perfect!

After working with Slav, I am not surprised by the large number of consistently high ratings. Slav was extremely easy to work with, accessible, responsive, and conscientious. He efficiently handled changes to the original plans as they arose and made intelligent, budget-conscious recommendations. The crew was equally respectful of our home and cleaned up at end of every work day -- keeping the area contained and as clean as possible while removing 100-yr-old dry plaster walls. All work was completed per schedule and on budget. We had a crumbling powder bath completely gutted and rebuilt, moving the plumbing and electrical -- as well as adding laundry facilities and pantry cupboards to adjoining space, and replacing kitchen cabinets and flooring throughout. Work quality was excellent and in specific instances exceeded expectations. I would not hesitate to work with Melco Remodeling again or to recommend them to anyone.

Slav and his team always arrived as planned and worked extra on certain occasions to meet agreed upon deadlines. Slav was easy to work with as we navigated completing some of the work ourselves and with one of our own sub-contractors. If I discussed a concern with Slav we were able to address the concern and come to a fair agreement for both parties.

I am happy with the work that was done. My basement was in bad shape and now I still can't be-leave it is the same basement. The workers were nice cleaned up everyday when they were done. I would hire hem for other projects that hope to get done in the next couple years. I only gave 4 stars because I had a new HVAC system put in and everything was working fine. About half way through the remodel my 2nd floor could not be cooled and my living room could not be cooled. I am not getting much air flow from a few of the vents. They referred me back to the heating company even though they were the last ones to touch the HVAC. Now that I am using the heat my upstairs is not heating like it use to and it is the suppose to be the warmest. I am worried it is going to cost me more money to figure out whats going which should have been taken care before everything was closed off.
Response from Company:
This issue was addressed to us after all walls & ceiling were closed off. Homeowner hired different HVAC company to replace furnace & modify main trunk lines. Its look like newly installed pipes was under calculated to provide enough heat to second floor & newly finished basement ( which only had (1) supply previously & (3) at present time) We recommended homeowner to contact firm who installed new HVAC system, but newer heard back from anyone since.

We had a frozen pipe in our master bathroom upstairs and all the water brought down our living room ceiling. We had Melco rebuild the ceiling and updated our kitchen for us. They do wonderful work, were timely, and very responsive to our requests. Everyone on the work site was polite. I never thought I would actually consider it, but I actually love my knocked down ceiling. We will definitely use Melco for other projects again.
