"Polar Bear offered a competitive quote, and what seemed a good solution for a somewhat tricky roof install for our AC. Problem is that we asked for a higher ton unit, fearing their initial recommendation would not be strong enough, but they did not follow through on that and installed a smaller unit. Lo and behold the AC does not work sufficiently for our home. They say it is because of poor duct work in our older home. That may be part of it, but the system cools worse than our old one did, before it conked out. After spending $10k on this system just a couple years ago, we just spent ANOTHER 10k for installation of supplemental AC systems (by another company) so our house can actually make it through the DC summer. Now our main floor cools great, but the upstairs, which relies on the AC system that Polar Bear installed, still struggles. I've had Polar Bear come out multiple times to see there is anything they could do to make the AC work better, and other than top up coolant, they haven't offered solutions. I'd not use them again, had more positive experience with another company that I just also reviewed here."

"We had a 20+ degree temperature difference between the finished basement and the upper level in our recently purchased home.  We had been using modern mechanical for a few years for annual hvac inspections in our previous home but that system never really required much service.  They have always been professional, punctual, and have a problem solving attitude.  We had them come out to provide recommendations and pricing for installing a new zone.  They provided the following three options: manual dampers, electronic zoning board with digital dampers, or install a completely separate system for the upper level.  The second choice is relatively new technology and they highly recommended it because it cost 50% - 75% less than installing a completely separate system and would have the same effect.  They followed up with a written proposal in 24 hours and had the system installed only a week after signing the proposal.  When the crew came to install it they were professional and polite.  The system has now been up and running for several weeks and works perfectly.  We highly recommend this company and the system/technology that they used.

He determined I needed 2 new parts and arranged for them to be ordered and will be installed this week. He went out of his way to explain the situation and as it is very warm right now he gave me suggestions on what I could do to minimize the discomfort. "Trevor and his team are top notch.  From the time we met to review our project to completion he was very responsive.  The day of installation the crew showed up at approx., 8:30 a.m. and it was a HOT day, we anticipated a two day install, but because it was hot the crew stayed until almost 8:00 p.m. that night to complete the entire installation.  I have already recommended Trevor to a co-worker who has used him also.  You can't go wrong with Trevor and his team they are all top notch and professional.

"Snell Heating and Air Conditioning installed a heat pump and air handler in my home on May 30. I have to say I am disappointed. The system recommended by Snell and sold to us apparently is considerably more powerful than our old system and has resulted in a massive increase in noise from our ductwork. The noise created by the new system was such that watching television, holding a conversation in certain rooms, or even sleeping was difficult. Snell’s customer support was a mixed bag. On the good side, when techs were scheduled, they arrived promptly. Other times we were told Snell would “get back to me” on questions, but this did not happen. Sorry – lack of follow-up to a customer’s call is not good customer service. The system install also failed our county’s electrical inspection. It has taken two months and two tries to get anywhere near an acceptable fix to the noise problem. Frankly, I would have given Snell a much lower score than "C", except for the help and advice I got from our last technician, Chris – who was able to accurately diagnose the problem and implement a partial solution. Kudos to him. The system still creates much more noise in the ductwork than I would like, but short of replacing it with something smaller, I don’t see a better solution. We’re OK with the increased airflow and accept the increased noise as an unhappy byproduct. However, I do believe Snell does need to do a better job at sizing their systems or explaining the implications to customers before installation."
