"Polar Bear offered a competitive quote, and what seemed a good solution for a somewhat tricky roof install for our AC. Problem is that we asked for a higher ton unit, fearing their initial recommendation would not be strong enough, but they did not follow through on that and installed a smaller unit. Lo and behold the AC does not work sufficiently for our home. They say it is because of poor duct work in our older home. That may be part of it, but the system cools worse than our old one did, before it conked out. After spending $10k on this system just a couple years ago, we just spent ANOTHER 10k for installation of supplemental AC systems (by another company) so our house can actually make it through the DC summer. Now our main floor cools great, but the upstairs, which relies on the AC system that Polar Bear installed, still struggles. I've had Polar Bear come out multiple times to see there is anything they could do to make the AC work better, and other than top up coolant, they haven't offered solutions. I'd not use them again, had more positive experience with another company that I just also reviewed here."

"Excellent service! I had a 26yr old A/C and Propane furnace that I wanted to update to an ALL ELECTRIC high efficiency heat pump. The price in the estimate was much higher than I was expecting, but they worked with me and brought it down considerably, provided I could accept an install slot in a couple of days due to a cancellation. Go for it, I thought! Unfortunately, it turned out that the estimator/salesman (who shall remain nameless) apparently got a bit confused and set up the equipment as a hybrid propane system - not the all-electric system that I wanted. Ugh. I only realized this when the installers had the indoor unit in place, and I saw the propane burners. Doh! So, I explained the situation to them, and they pulled the unwanted unit out and jumped through the hoops to order the correct unit and its accessories (wiring, breakers etc.), with no change to the price. They were very friendly and polite through all of this even though it meant the wasted work and that they had to come back the next day with the new IDU. Anyway, the final install all went well, and they were very friendly and respectful of the property and explained all the install details as they went (sorry Melvin, for all the pestering!) I'm very happy with the company and the installer's knowledge and professionalism. RECOMMENDED!"

"We had a 20+ degree temperature difference between the finished basement and the upper level in our recently purchased home.  We had been using modern mechanical for a few years for annual hvac inspections in our previous home but that system never really required much service.  They have always been professional, punctual, and have a problem solving attitude.  We had them come out to provide recommendations and pricing for installing a new zone.  They provided the following three options: manual dampers, electronic zoning board with digital dampers, or install a completely separate system for the upper level.  The second choice is relatively new technology and they highly recommended it because it cost 50% - 75% less than installing a completely separate system and would have the same effect.  They followed up with a written proposal in 24 hours and had the system installed only a week after signing the proposal.  When the crew came to install it they were professional and polite.  The system has now been up and running for several weeks and works perfectly.  We highly recommend this company and the system/technology that they used.

He determined I needed 2 new parts and arranged for them to be ordered and will be installed this week. He went out of his way to explain the situation and as it is very warm right now he gave me suggestions on what I could do to minimize the discomfort. "I closed the deal with Julian on late Tuesday night and the team was able to do the installation the next morning! Jesse gave me the details on the team as the ink was drying. They arrived on time first thing in the morning. Dan, Cal and Greg were a great team that stayed active all day. Seriously over 12 hours! They installed a new Hot water heater and an 18 Seer Lennox Heat Pump with Honeywell Humidifier and Honeywell Home Thermostats. My 17 year old system was tightly packed into the basement. I think the basement was built around it. They replaced everything...ducts, hoses, fuses boxes, wires and pipes. Everything was insulated and finally brought to code with new sensors and alarms. After working all day, they ended the evening cleaning up and taking me through the system in great detail. It has only been a couple hours but everything is running great.
