The technician, Scott, showed up right on time (which is typical for SPH&A), extremely courteous (also typical), and did a timely but thorough job of the system checkup. This may be my favorite local business in the Richmond area; I feel I get a tremendous amount of value for the products and services they provide. When we needed our downstairs unit replaced two years ago, I went to great lengths to find the best possible value. During my research, I kept seeing comments about how great Short Pump Heating & Air was, and I have to say, it's all true. When they installed the downstairs unit, I was extremely impressed by the professionalism of the entire team, from the office staff to the technicians to the owner. In fact, I was so impressed that I had them replace the upstairs unit a year later, and didn't think twice about whom to call. As a homeowner, it gives me great peace of mind to have such a reliable organization as SPH&A for something as important as our heating and cooling system. This most recent service may have been a routine maintenance check, but it's great to know they still commit themselves to service excellence for their customers. "They were great!! Talked to Johnathan first, told me what time he would arrive, and he was right on time. He fixed my old unit temporarily, but I decided on going ahead and getting a new unit (old one was 20+ years old). He told me what to expect for the next days installation, and it was just as he explained. They technicians were, friendly, professional and right on time. "I had some issues with my 10 year old furnace and started looking into issues. I used to work for Carrier as an HVAC researcher and tried to fix the issues myself. I disassembled the burner and tried to get things right. In the end, I exhausted options and gave up on repair. I called my serviceman, trying to have the furnace repaired. He recommended getting a new furnace or replacing the whole HVAC since it was more than 10 years old. My serviceman gave me a quote for a Carrier furnace, which I thought was high since I knew the price of the unit (ex-Carrier R&D engineer). That was when I decided to look around. I received three quotes after reading through reviews in google and Angie’s list. In the end, I chose ARS Manassas by virtue of their overall competitiveness. In any business, it takes two things to win a deal: trust and value. In my case, one salesperson, Cliff Allen (who I will talk about more in a minute) delivered both aspects, which made the decision easy. Since I know the HVAC system in and out, I had many detailed (and even tedious) questions, to which he answered professionally with knowledge and courtesy. He did not try to upsell anything. In fact, he recommended to check a few things for repair, even while giving quotes for me. Although I decided to get the new one in the end after trying a few more attempt for repair, Cliff earned my trust and respect in the meantime. He tried to provide an optimal solution in terms of price and performance, which was more competitive than the other two quotes. I ended up getting 16 SEER performance series furnace and AC. Cliff truly knew what he was doing during the selection process. He answered all the questions an ex-Carrier R&D engineer raised and provided several quotes for comparison, which helped me to reach a satisfactory solution in an efficient and rational manner. He never tried to upsell, clearly understanding customer’s side. To the contrary, he did his best to give me the best deal without compromising performance. His professionalism does not stop at sales. He went over all the items in the specifics of installation, meticulously jotting down any notables in the contract. I was not surprised to see the technicians, Michael and Melvin, show up on time and finish the job, following the specifics and notables that Cliff had prepared at the contract phase. They tried to make the installation smooth and went over every single item to make sure that it was done to perfection. About a month later, the town inspector came out and made sure that the unit had been properly installed. The inspector confirmed that the job was done to the standard but pointed out that it would be better to add another bracket to the outdoor unit so that it would not move around. I called ARS to inform the findings of the inspection. ARS has promptly scheduled another visit (even if they could have waited for AC checkup in the late spring) to fix the issue. This time Jeremy and Josh came out and meticulously fixed the issue. These two gentlemen really knew what they were doing. They went a lot further than just adding a bracket. The outdoor unit is so sturdily attached to the bracket now that even a hurricane would not shake the outdoor unit. My kudos to Jeremy and Josh. I will come back and write a further review in 6 months to report any issues I experience but for now, I am glad that I chose ARS Manassas for new HVAC installation. If you ever need a new HVAC near Manassas area, the choice is simple. Go for a trustworthy and knowledgeable man that would deliver the best value for your investment, Cliff Allen at ARS."

"The A/C at our rental property was running, but not keeping the house cool. I called five different A/C companies that had A ratings on Angie's list and asked how much they charged for the service fee and how much they charged per pound for R22. Three of the companies including K&J) told me their rates directly and two told me that they "bundle" the R22 cost with labor costs. I appreciated that K&J were up front with their costs and they had the best rates. The technicians showed up on time and were very professional. They immediately checked the unit outside and the air handler inside. Both were frozen up with ice. They turned off the unit and we waited for it to thaw out. While waiting the tech's (Cory and Mark) were very jovial and pleasant to talk to. Once the unit thawed out they hooked up the gages and diagnosed the problem as low refrigerant. They showed me on the gage were the correct level should be and where my unit was. They kept me informed the whole time and were very thorough. They ended up having to clean the coil in order to get the unit to take in the refrigerant. They told me the cost before they did it and asked me if I wanted them to proceed. Once the cioils were clean they added 1lb of R22 (in .5 lb increments). Then they went inside and checked the vent with a laser thermometer to make sure the temp was in the proper range. I was able to pay credit right there on the spot and they gave me a discount for using Angie's list. I would highly recommend K&J Mechanical. They did excellent work on time and at a great price. There was even a follow up call to see if I was satisfied with the service.

I have also taken advantage of their contract program providing many benefits to the home owner not found elsewhere. Their pricing is very fair creating an outstanding value to the customer. All of this work was the result of their many complete evaluations of our home, recommendations with the added benefit of allowing us time to make the choice to correct the problem or wait for a better situation financially. In our case everything they discovered, options recommended all came to pass involving no pushy sales attitude or environment.
We've also taken advantage of there electrical services as that is a major benefit of having a service contract. The inspections of our home and the defects found in the construction and wiring leading to immediate correction, saved our home from potential disaster.

I write this review only because I am a new Angie's List member, realize the tremendous benefit this site has created for the consumer and realizing One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning was already listed. What I have shared here is rare within the service industry and is very deserving of honorable mention with a strong recommendation to others. I maintain very high standards for the businesses I deal with and when an outstanding business provider is located, I do not hesitate in sharing it for the value and benefit of others to take advantage of their services. I have experienced nothing but professional encounters from purchasing to support with this company for 15+ years. What more can one say?
