"When i had a houseful of guests coming for the holiday, we discovered stinky water in the yard above the septic system. The company who maintains our swimming pool referred us to Legend Plumbing. The office staff was very understanding and promised that a crew would get to us that day. Bret arrived around 3:30 and worked to determine the sump pump was burned out. Joel came out with a new pump and together they installed it. It was dark by the time they were finished and so they had to use flashlights to make the yard as presentable as possible. Legend Plumbing being able to make this repair the same day we called was wonderful. I would have had to send the 3 families who were coming to see us to a hotel, as they could not have stayed here. We probably couldn't have stayed either. So I thank them and would recommend them!"

"I had found a slow leak that appeared on the wall of the foundation, close to the Master Bathroom.  There had not been any water on the floor inside the house, so I had no idea how long this leak had been going.  The stain on the slab was pretty big and I was highly concerned that I was going to need to tear siding off the house to find it.
I called Local Plumbing Service and scheduled a visit for the following day.  They arrived first thing in the morning.  I showed them the leak and then we looked in the bathroom.  I had previously had a leak in the tub and was concerned there could be a new leak from that area.  Jack and his son systematically checked key points in the plumbing system, looking for the source of the leak.  By a process of elimination, they determined the leak was actually coming from the toliet.  I would have never suspected a leak there.  But they removed the toliet and showed me how the brass flange attached to the pipe had slowly cracked over time, allowing water to leak under the floor tile and outside the house.
They removed the broken flange and welded on a new one.  They also replaced all the interior parts of the toliet with professional grade parts.  Then they set up the toliet and had it working again in no time!  And just to humor me, they also cut a small peep hole in the sheet rock next to the tub, so we could look down in there and verify that there was no water leaking down there.  They covered up the peep hole with a little plastic vent.  Now I can look in there anytime I want.
It took about three hours to find and fix the leak and then turn everything back on.  Everything is working perfectly now!

FAQs for septic system repair projects in Austin, TX

You should have your septic tank inspected at least once every one to three years. Regular inspections help catch minor issues before they become major problems, ensuring your system operates efficiently and extends its lifespan. You can also have your pro take care of routine septic system maintenance tasks at the same time as your inspection.

A septic tank must be inspected before buying a home to ensure the system is sound and compliant with local regulations. A comprehensive inspection evaluates all critical components and detects hidden faults that could lead to expensive repairs. This detailed review protects your investment by verifying the system’s integrity and reliability.

A septic tank's leach field fails when it encounters system overload and deteriorating conditions. Excess water usage beyond the field’s capacity and environmental stress lead to hydraulic failure. Aging infrastructure and insufficient maintenance further contribute to failure. Distributing water use evenly and scheduling regular maintenance, including enzyme treatments when necessary, preserve the leach field’s integrity.

A septic system lasts between 20 and 30 years. Steel tanks function for 15 to 20 years, concrete tanks operate for 20 to 40 years, and fiberglass or plastic tanks remain durable for 30 to 40 years. Consistent maintenance, including regular pumping and inspections, extends these lifespans by preventing buildup and structural damage, ensuring reliable long-term performance.

A failing septic system presents clear signs such as slow-draining fixtures, foul odors at or around the leach field, and overly green patches of grass. Additional indicators include persistent toilet flushing problems, standing water near the system, and noticeable gurgling noises from pipes. These symptoms reveal blockages, structural damage, or leaks. Immediate professional evaluation is essential to address these issues and prevent extensive repair costs.
