"We chose this company based on Angie List reviews and services offered. The cabinet finish restoration went well. However, the project was mostly assigned to employees who had limited skills compared to Dave and Claire, particularly in the installation of revolving shelves chosen by Refinish First. The costly unit selected by Refinish First failed after 2 years and after weeks of communication and investigation the manufacturer determined it was incorrectly installed. It stood behind the product however and shipped a new unit. Refinish First was too busy to follow up and discontinued contact. Perhaps two years is too long to expect a business to stand behind its work."

"I am a repeat customer of Ryan’s. Several years ago I had a set of dining room chairs which had become wobbly and unstable. I asked Ryan to look at them and he did, saying that he could fix the problem. The result was that when he finished they were as good as when I bought them 35 years before. The price was reasonable and the service was excellent. This week I asked Ryan to look at my 38-year-old Windsor-style kitchen chairs which had also become wobbly and unstable. Ryan listened patiently to my concerns and answered my questions about the repairs, then explained how he would go about fixing them. The result was the same as before, namely, they are as stable as the day I bought them. Again, the price was reasonable and the service was excellent. Ryan is a master craftsman and is very easy to work with. Like the good doctors of yore, he makes house calls. It doesn’t get any better than that. I highly recommend Ryan for any of your furniture repair needs."

"Ed was highly professional. He examined the table carefully before deciding the best course of action. He was able to restore the surface without fully refinishing it. I greatly appreciated his expertise and thoughtfulness in recommending a course other than complete refinishing. He completed the work quickly. The restored top is gorgeous, with a nicer surface than the original. Excellent work. It was a pleasure to work with Ed and I recommend him with enthusiasm and without reservation."

"Fantastic local artistry and service! <br /> We are so very happy with our custom bed frame. It is more beautiful than we imagined, even after coming in for wood checks. The Joinery folks have all been great with their advice, talent, and service. It was fantastic to walk into their workroom and see US artisans creating such beautiful furniture from fallen or farmed trees.  <br /> <br />"

"I was very pleased with their choices. We went with their suggestions in every respect, they fit perfectly with our desires. Some of their suggestions we didn't even know we would like but when the end result came we were very surprised. While the furniture did cost, the service itself was completely free and we couldn't have been happier."

"My father-in-law made us a large drop leaf dining room table that converted to a 10 foot banquet table with banquet ends and leaves. Unfortunately the surface of the drop leaf portion became marred. My attempts to repair it were not successful. Green Furniture Hospital took the table to their shop along with a leaf and refinished the damaged portion with an excellent match of color. The top looks fantastic. We are extremely pleased with their work in restoring this family treasure to new!  <br />"

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Beaverton, OR

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
