leaking for years. Various workmen had poured concrete into it, slathered mortar
between stones and sprayed special waterfall foam all over the sides of it. My
pond, stream and waterfall continued to leak. Hilary of Backyard Ponds looked at it for a while, moved one
stone and fixed the leak. How did you do that! I yelled. Well after you work on
enough of these things you get an eye for what the problem could be. Then she
vacuumed all the mud that had been clogging the pum , reattached the waterline
and pump that I could never get to stay together, restacked the rocks along the
edge of the stream so they actually sat on top of each other instead of sliding
down at all angles, and added a few strategically placed rocks to hide the pump
and waterline and cover the rubber sides of the stream. She added a regulator to
the water line so I could make the water run fast and slow. And more. I have had
a pond and stream for fifteen years, and many people have worked on it, from
expensive professioanl landscapers to guys I would swear the contractor picked
up off the street corner. The difference in using someone who specializes in
ponds is stunning. Backyard ponds is

His team completely transformed our hardscape areas, including installing a beautiful flagstone walkway and patio, a perfectly graded cement driveway, iron railings on our steps, and plants in a number of locations. On top of that, some of the work required some touch up and sealing and Jesse and his team have come out a couple of times later this spring to do that work unprompted. There's a little bit left, but I know they'll be around to finish it as they've taken care of us every step of the way. Even better, everything was done in budget. Look no further! "I was blown away by the work performed by Falls Church Paving Company. They returned my initial call in less than 24 hrs and began our project within 2 business days. Unlike the other companies that I received quotes from, Falls Church Paving used a crew of 4 to 5 and over $100K worth of equipment to include a paving machine and a vibratory roller. FC Paving removed and hauled away my existing 20 yr old driveway, installed 21A stone gravel base and widened the right and left sides of my driveway using 3" of asphalt. I was impressed with their precision and workmanship - especially after speaking with several contractors who were going to lay asphalt on top of my existing driveway and only hand stamp - no paving machine or roller - at a higher cost no less! Falls Church Paving even let me purchase PVC piping for my invisible fence at the end of my driveway and they didnt charge me extra to bury, install and reconnect it! I would highly Falls Church Paving for any Asphalt work."

"I called Waterproofing Inc on a Wednesday and we scheduled an appointment for an estimate for Saturday. Steve promptly came at the scheduled time and we reviewed the situation in my basement.   I told him of my goal to have a finished DRY basement.  He looked at my existing pump and drain. He suggested that I could apply (or have applied) plastic sheeting to the walls to help with the seepage problem. However, he doesn't do that type of work. He also asked me what I thought the problem was with the moisture problem. He suggested that he could extend the current waterproofing system along the entire back wall and gave me a written estimate for that work. The reason that I rated him a B and said I would hire him was because I didn't feel confident in his diagnosis of the root cause of the water problem and his proposed solution to address the issue so that my basement could be dry. I am looking for a one stop shop with a solution driven individual who comes in as a problem solver. I just didn't get that from Steve. He didn't even look (or ask to look) outside the house to see how the water comes off the back of the house where the problem is.  I'm guess if I just wanted someone to drill up the concrete and put a drain in, he would be fine because his price was reasonable for that work. But I'm looking for a holistic solution provider who will address all issues with the most effective and efficient techniques to keep my basement dry.  I just wouldn't hire him for that role."

"Mr. Langhorne was the cheapest estimate by close to $3,000.  Normally you need to ask questions as to why the lowest bid is the lowest bid.  However, we decided to use Mr. Langhorne, because we had a very good personal reference from a fellow police officer who worked for him for several years.  And we are glad that we did.  Everything that Mr. Langhorne did was done with utmost precision and care.  Every cut into the concrete, every line and grade was flawless.  At the end, he even ripped of several pieces of stone and re-layed them, because it was not quite perfect.  The pride Mr. Langhorne took in doing the job perfectly was obvious.  Our previous experience with contractors is that you need to keep an eye on them to make sure they are not cutting corners, doing sloppy work or trying to get you to spend more money.  After the first couple days, we knew that would not be the case with Mr. Langhorne. He was onsight most days of the job to personally oversee the work.  His son, who works with him, was just as proffessional and skilled. 
 
Mr. Langhorne's bid included many things that our other bids added on as extras such as grading the front yard and disposing of the old concrete.  We decided to add on a few extra things such as covering the existing patio and some more drainage, but never at any point did he pressure us to spend the money or resort to scare tatics.  And still his prices, for a french drain for example, were hundreds less than the other bids we got.  In addtion, more than once, he included things that were not covered in the contract and that he had no obligation to do.  He seeded our front yard with high quality seed and patched an old concrete walkway with extra materials from a previous job.  We did not expect these things, but he insisted on doing them.  He was truly a rare find.
We highly recommend Mr. Langhorne and his crew and could not be happier with the result.  He told us he does all types of home repair and remodel including kitchens and baths or has a trusted associated who does.  Not only will we use him again in the future, he will be our first point of contact when we need something done.
