"First, I had considered a few options: repair existing and install either a new water heater or change to tankless electric. When Green City called to set up a time to develop a bid, I asked to speak with a technician. Jeff answered and led me through very logical decision tree which led to them replacing my 50 gallon tank. I was very impressed with the information he provided regarding the various alternatives. He asked how the old water heater had performed, and If I was happy with its performance why would I want to change. Made sense to me. Their bid was quite fair, they came out and completed the installation when they said they would. Presto hot water and they hauled away the old water heater. I had a couple of meetings that I needed to attend to that morring and because they were so punctual and efficient I made both meetings,"

"Our old gas furnace died during the series of snowstorms in February. Stephan came out the day after we called, to give us the bad news that the unit was so old, no replacement parts were available so the whole thing would have to be replaced. Not really surprising given the age of the unit. He also showed me where the water heater (of similar vintage) was corroding around the outlet pipe, so was also in need of replacement. Kris came out within a couple of hours to look over the house and recommended a couple of options. We were leaving town so installation was delayed a couple of days; otherwise we could have had everything done within 48hours of the initial call. The crew that showed up to do the installation (sorry I forgot your names) showed up promptly at 8AM, worked throughout the day, and left our basement cleaner than it started out."

"Install was all with lennox line products, it looks great and it's much quieter than the old furnace.  They did it all in one day and it came out looking awesome.  I will definitely be calling them for any future hvac work. Not much else to say other than they did a great job for a great price."

"It went very smoothly. Seemed like a straightforward routine job. It took about 2 hours to remove and replace my 50-gal water heater. The company was very proactive with communication. It seemed a bit steep at ~3k but I didn’t shop around so I can’t say for sure."

"I purchased a new Navien NPE-240A2 Tankless Water Heater and had it installed. I'm loving the new water heater. It replaces an old Noritz tankless that died just before this installation. The on-site estimate was what sold me. Ken went through all the details and answered a lot of questions from me. Zachary came out with Austin and performed the installation just like I discussed with Ken. Zachary kept me in the loop throughout the installation to ensure I was in agreement with how it was going. Zachary always had my interest at heart and ensured no corners were cut. The installation is much cleaner, and more correct than the previous tankless company did. Zachary even listened to my concern about the astectics of the exterior exhaust and quickly found an easier and cleaner looking way to address my concern. He also removed an old recirculation pump and replaced a new main house shutoff valve. The entire area was treated respectfully and left cleaner than they found it."

"Not smoothly. We selected Blue Flame because they were cheaper than Greenwood Heating & Air, and they could do the work immediately, while Greenwood had a waitlist several weeks long (should have been a clue). If I had to summarize the experience I would say communication was poor, requiring me to project manage the replacement more than I wanted to. Half the time you tried to call the office, they wouldn't pick up and you were passed onto an answering service who would ask you a list of generic questions like "Where did you hear about Blue Flame" and "Are you interested in purchasing a system?"... I've already purchased a system that I'm trying to finish having installed!!! The actual instillation took longer than they predicted, and while I appreciated the workers staying late into the night to work on the project, they didn't come prepared with all the equipment to do the work. They needed to borrow my extension cord because they didn't have one, and ended up plugging into the outlet in our backyard without asking, leaving our yard gate wide open. Fortunately our dog didn't escape before the open gate was noticed several hours later. They also helped themselves to items from our garage without asking, like our broom to sweep up their trash and debris. Lastly, and possibly most serious, the workers who were installing the system in our house were constantly pulling down their Covid masks when they thought we weren't around, and would scramble to pull them back up when they saw us. Bottom line, I probably got a good price on the unit and work, but it's not a very polished or professional company, so fingers crossed that everything was installed properly and will work for years to come."

"In June of this year I contracted with a large company to install a new heat pump at our residence.  While overall I felt they did a fairly decent job there were at least three instances of inconsistent service, attention to detail and disappointment.  The most disappointing aspect of that company's performance was when it came time to "test" my existing insulation and duct work.  I believed there bid to correct my existing ducts and insulation was outrageous.  That said, I was in between a rock and a hard place.  I had just installed a $12K heat pump and I feared any efficiencies I may have gained could be lost due to my existing ducts and insulation.
I contacted 5 companies to provide me with bids, in addition to the upsell price I was previously provided by the company I had install the heat pump.  All five companies are listed on Angie's List.  They all provided fairly consistent bids.  They all helped educate me on what I may need to resolve my existing duct and insulation issues.
Daniel was the final contractor I spoke with.  He showed up early afternoon, looking a bit haggard, as if he had just emerged from a crawlspace - he had.  I was somewhat tentative at first, but I knew I had found the right man for the job the minute he began outlying in detail everything he saw, what he would recommend, how he would address my specific issues and what it would cost.  He was upfront from the get go, wanting to work with my budget and my timetable.
Daniel and his team showed up three days later and worked 12 hours on a Saturday in 85 degree heat, completely insulating the crawlspace of a 2,000 sf home.  He was back the next day to finish up, working another 7 hours, again in 85 degree heat.  He pointed out certain issues he found along the way, specifically some holes that needed patching with mesh and sealing all gaps in my flooring from the crawlspace.  He sealed all the ducts, adding screws where necessary.  He even sealed the holes drilled by the company who installed the heat pump (one example of their service inconsistency).
Daniel is an extremely hard worker.  I have the utmost respect for his abilities and would recommend him to anyone looking to have any type of crawlspace / insulation work done.  Sure, shop around, talk to the various companies on Angies List, get educated and then do what I did, call Daniel last, negotiate a price and get the job done right.

"One afternoon when leaving our local Costco we noticed a booth advertising Lennox air conditioning for the home. After the last 4 years of record summer heat, we decided to begin the process of investigating this solution. The appointment for the estimate went well with the entire process carefully explained and all of our questions answered. So, we decided to pull the trigger and buy the system. To our delight, company had an opening for the installation a week ahead of the original date and things only got better from there. On the day of the install, Isaac and his crew arrived on time and enforce. At one point there were 6 people and three trucks, all tightly coordinated. Everyone was courteous, professional, and fast. In a little over 6 hours the system was completely installed and thoroughly cleaned up. Overall, we could not be happier with this decision and highly recommend this company for anyone considering whole house A/C. Replacing 13 fans and 2 portable air conditioners is an elegant solution."

"We have been using this shop for many years, we are on our 3rd Volvo and they are the best around.  The people are super friendly, professional and highly competent.  The shop is very well run, it is clean and they always give you a quote up front and stick to it, if at all possible.  For our older Volvo they would look for less expensive parts but still fix the issue.  Years ago they replaced and engine for our 1990 wagon that ran for another 100K miles.

We have moved and it is less convenient to take our cars there, but we continue to do so because they are worth the effort."

"Three layers of existing roof got removed in under a few hours, new plywood was replaced, inspected before and after, new flat roof and shingles installed. A great experience overall. Everyone was on time, the crew was consistent. They cleaned up when they were done on a daily basis. They were never annoyed of me when I asked questions while they were working, they were always willing to help. I was greeted each morning and when they were ready to leave they let me know they were leaving and when they would be back. The owner called daily to keep me updated, very responsive. And when a problem area was spotted, they let me know and made sure I was okay with it before repairing it. All additional costs were estimated and approved in advance. There were no surprises. Going to recommend this company to all my friends, these guys will not disappoint."

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Bothell, WA

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
