"Criticisms and low ratings are of owner, Doug Marr and Office Manager's bad attitudes. Their technician and office staff are fine. Except for a water leak the morning after they finished installing a new boiler (the original plumber, Chris, came back early Saturday morning within a couple of hours to remedy the problem), work done, thus far has been good. However, Doug and especially Priscilla's attitudes can be rude/unprofessional at times. A Solar Panel salesman, Lee experienced the same and some Yelp and Google reviewers have experienced the same. Originally, when I called them for a quote to covert to natural gas, Doug said, “it’ll take a few months” and Priscilla said the same before I signed the contract and gave them a 10% deposit. A couple of months later when Con Ed gets back to them with an approximate date, Priscilla emails me that it’ll be another ~ 8 months and I was annoyed because I felt they lied to me. I called Priscilla who copped an attitude. Her perspective is that I was calling her a liar and yes, I felt she and Doug misled me by painting a rosier picture when they knew it takes closer to a year so that they could get the $16,500K job. Doug’s response was unapologetic and told me that I should take it up with Con Ed for taking so long. He misses the point that I felt misled from him and his staff. Do either of them consider “a few months” to ~ 8 months? He takes the offensive and says, “did you even notice their tech, Chris reinstalling the old boiler when he leaves for the day so that I could have hot water during the natural gas conversion and that Chris tried to fix the sump pump since it wasn’t working properly?” What does one thing have to do with the other? Is misleading me okay if your tech went the extra mile? The solar panel sales was quoted a price but when their tech came out, he had no experience on his brand boiler and spent a lot of time on the phone with the manufacturer guiding him and Goldberg wanted a lot of money instead of the quoted price. That’s when the office became nasty with Lee and he threatened to contact the Westchester Consumer Protection Agency before they lowered the bill. I forwarded that email to Doug and he replied, “thank you” but he doesn’t care because Priscilla’s bad attitude continues as evidenced by other bad reviews about their behavior. If you see her Facebook profile, it's almost all selfies so that is very telling. In fact, out of all the office staff I’ve dealt with, Priscilla, by far has the worst attitude. If I had a staff member like that, I would give them a warning and then remove them if it’s habitual. As I told Doug, it’s his company not mine so he can run it how he wants but it proves to me that he doesn’t care. It’s all about the money. Also, when I told him about his and Priscilla’s rudeness, Doug told me to write a review if I was in fact on Angie’s List. So I am. He doesn’t care. Also, I had Doug come out to take a look at my dining room’s floor heating boards because I thought the 1/2” gap between the new ceramic floors and the boards was tight. He quoted me ~ $2,500. I called and spoke with Peter Grotto of Grotto Plumbing who told 1/2” was enough space and wouldn’t change it unless I had money to throw away. Difference in opinion or money is the main focus? Prices are high compared to other plumbing companies so shop around. Hourly rate is $220/hour which is high if you consider plumber techs get $25/hr and trainees get $15/hr. I realize that there’s other overhead, like office space, office employee salary, insurance, vehicle maintenance. Just know that some plumbing companies will not quote an hourly rate but say they do it by the project which means they pad the estimate so that it covers driving time and if time to go back in case there are any problems. If there aren’t any issues, it’s more profit in the company’s pockets. Update 1/4/2018: Since the work was done, Con Ed came out twice for possible gas leaks and each time, their rep told me they would have done things differently: 1) one person told me the boiler outlet should be higher up on the back of the house and 2) other person there should have been a matching coupler on the right like the left side of the main valve. When I told Doug about the outlet being higher, he replied that Con Ed wouldn’t have approved it if it was incorrect but he’s missing the point; it would have been better not that it was done wrong. It’s as if they can do no wrong, you need them or than they need you. Plumbing services are always needed esp. during the cold winter months when pipes freezes so rude staff or high bills are secondary. Maybe, if they lost a lot of customers, they will become more humble and grateful to their customers. I’m sure they have hundreds of satisfied customers but it should not discount my and other’s experience with them. Copping an attitude is never acceptable. End of story."

"Work took about 45 minutes, I provided the valve for water heater and mixer for faucet control. Work appears to be high quality. He'd quoted me $200 for the work in response to my inquiry (copied below) on the Angies List messaging system, and then charged me $300 and didn't reduce price for Angies List 15% off coupon.  Given the work took 45 minutes and he used mostly my materials, I thought the price was excessive and it's hard to imagine the work was harder than he expected when he gave me the price.  I moved and disconnected my washer to allow access to rear of dryer, he didn't offer to reconnect it.  <br /> <em>Here's email volley between us:<br /> <strong>(me</strong>) 7/31/2015  I need to have a few sale inspection items addressed. 1. replacement of shower mixer cartridge (I have replacement cartridge) to stop drip 2. replacement of water heater pressure release valve 3. replacement of gas supply line to dryer 4. rerout condensate drain from sanitary pipe to outside. Please let me know price and availability to fix. Thanks (me)<br /> <strong>American Plumber LLC </strong>7/31/2015 Roughly for the first two items you would be around $200 rerouting the condensation line I would need to see that before giving you a price you can call us at your earliest convenience at 732 744 6812 and we can schedule an appointment if you'd like thank you.</em> <br /> Note that I didn't have him replace the condensate line. I don't mean to hammer him, the work was what I expected and he was pleasant and competent and quite frankly I'd use him again.  It just goes to the inconsistency and general disadvantage we as consumers are at when using contractors of this nature. <br />"

"Dave Murphy spent at least an hour evaluating the problem . This is an older house and it became apparent that before the valve was fixed I needed to have the whole system looked at by someone who specializes in steam heat. Dave helped me find contact details for someone who might help, changed a shower head that I hadn't been able to loosen and didn't charge me a dime. If there was an option for A+ I'd use it."

FAQs for gas piping projects in Brewster, NY

Plumbers with proper licensing and credentials install and relocate gas lines. When hiring a professional, verify they have experience with gas systems and all required certifications. Some homeowners choose to work with plumbers specializing in natural gas installations, as they have extensive experience with similar projects and understand the safety requirements.

The timeline for gas line relocation varies based on project complexity, permit processing, and inspection scheduling. The physical labor takes a few hours to one day, depending on the line length. However, the actual installation work represents only part of the overall project timeline. Your contractor should provide a specific timeframe based on your circumstances and local permitting requirements.

Your gas supply must be shut off during the relocation process. This safety measure prevents gas leaks while connections are being modified. Plan for this temporary service interruption by making alternative arrangements for cooking, heating, or other gas-dependent systems in your home. The shut-off generally only lasts for a portion of the work, often a few hours.

Relocating gas lines to connect new appliances is a common reason for this type of project. Whether you're installing a gas stove, fireplace, dryer, or outdoor grill, a professional can determine the best route for extending your existing gas system. The cost will depend on the distance between your current gas line and the new appliance location.

Gas line work is not suitable for DIY projects. Natural gas is highly flammable and potentially lethal if not handled correctly. Gas leaks can be difficult to detect without specialized equipment. Professional plumbers have the proper training, tools, and experience to safely relocate gas lines while ensuring compliance with local building codes and safety standards.
