"I had an aging screen porch that needed new panels manufactured. Not a lot of companies do this, but I was lucky enough to find Jim Conroy and Pittsburgh Window and Door in nearby Millvale. They did a great job of manufacturing new panels to replace the old ones, and put in much upgraded screen door. The new panels look great! The company was very professional and accommodating (I was out of town when they needed to do the install, but they were able to get it done). If you need a screen porch replaced or repaired, I would definitely give them a call, we were very happy with the work and the price."

"Fabulously!! My wife and I have used Patete Kitchen and Bath Design for over 30 years. During that time, we have had two bathrooms and our kitchen completely remodeled. The professionalism and expertise of Patete's work staff is first rate. They are perfectionists when it comes to detail, and they get the job done right....the first and only time. Recently, we noticed that our kitchen refrigerator was getting old and needed to be replaced. The problem was that a shelf in a cabinet that was installed nearly 25 years ago was too low for a new refrigerator that we wanted to buy to replace our old refrigerator. We called Patete, explained the problem, and within a short period of time, Wayne came out to look at the cabinet to see if it could be modified to enable a new, taller refrigerator to fit the space. About a week and a half later Keith came to our home to remove the cabinet and take it back to Patete's cabinet shop to be modified. In fact, when we saw Keith, he remembered working on our kitchen all those years ago. A few weeks later, I again spoke with Wayne, and he told me that the cabinet modification was complete and that Keith would contact us and reinstall the cabinet. Sure enough, on schedule, Keith arrived and within an hour, he installed the new, modified cabinet, and it was a perfect fit above our new refrigerator. Both Wayne and Keith have been members of the Patete team of craft experts for decades, and their wealth of experience showed on this job. Hats off to Steve Erenrich for his help in making the purchase and installation of our new refrigerator a reality and a pleasant experience."

"Legacy Remodeling did a fantastic job installing my whole house Provia Endure windows. I found this local company to be a pleasure to deal with from the initial sales consultation through installation and follow-up. The office staff, Ashley and Kelly, were always responsive and helpful, and pricing was reasonable with several options available. The Provia windows are easy to operate and clean, so we are very happy with the quality of the product that comes with a lifetime warranty. We were most impressed by the installation team. They were efficient, friendly, and very respectful of our property, covering everything both inside and out during removal of the old casement windows, cleaning up as they moved to each window. The team’s technical expertise was evident with precise installation, attention to detail with finishing touches, and showing us how to open the windows and remove screens. Overall, I would highly recommend Legacy Remodeling and the Provia Endure windows to anyone replacing one or all of their windows."

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Carnegie, PA

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
