"Danny, from HL Bowman, quickly understood the scope of the installation and used his expertise to make the installation seamless. As a result, the filtration system he installed is now operating perfectly to remove particulates greater the 5 microns from our well water. I would highly recommend HL Bowman for your plumbing needs. "

"We have had several Sila visits in recent months - all exceptional. VISIT 1: We had old pipes and valves that limited our dishwasher, so we had that replaced. While there, the Sila agent suggested we replace some of the attached lines and managed to streamline our hookups by removing some of the unneeded valves and connections no longer needed. VISIT 2: We similarly had a great visit and instal from David, who did a very beautiful install on our new water heater. He removed the broken unit, improved the connection design, put in improved valves and labelled each with a tag, then tagged other connections through the basement."

"Several projects with Boston Standard Plumbing – all done in ONE WEEK (Dec 11-18) First off, the names: Leo, Jon, Connor, Lilly, CJ, Brendan, and, at the office: Rachel, Micha, Josie (my apologies if I do not give each name correctly). Each and everyone of them embodies the superb qualities of Boston Standard Plumbing. In fact, the word “Standard” may sound like, well, an understatement. Unless one experiences their work from the initial stages all the way through the actual hands-on work, followed by help in all the relevant documentation and filing when it comes to financing and rebates, and, last not least, billing. My projects: replacement of old HVAC system with up to date new Trane system for heating (including humidifier) and cooling (AC); replacement of corroding water heater with a non-corroding one; swift replacement of water main valve during the work on water heater, getting city officials to respond swiftly to shut off and then on again the main on the street; installing permanent drainage of my dehumidifier in the storage space under the stoop, and installing a new pedestal sink in the guest restroom next to it. The location: lower level unit of a Boston South End brownstone built in 1900, renovated in 2005. Leo supervised the entire endeavor competently, always making sure I was completely updated on what was about to happen and how and why. Jon, Connor, and Lilly applied their skills to the HVAC and water heater replacements with professional precision and truly positive energy, always leaving their work site as clean as possible (the HVAC unit is located in the master bedroom). Jon was on top of things when he discovered that the main water valve failed to turn the water on again after installing the new water heater; CJ and Brendan came on the morning after the new HVAC and water heater were in place and working, to take care of the remaining tasks with equally high professional as well as creative skill and setting a superb standard in both. From the office, there was contact throughout and after the proceedings. Financing, rebate filing, processing of payment – each and all of these were handled with a professionalism that is utterly competent, reassuring, and hard to find anywhere else. Last and certainly not least: during each and every interaction, regardless with whom, I felt heard and understood and found myself in the best of hands. The word “standard” in Boston Standard Plumbing may sound like an understatement. It is: their standard in the relationship with the customer, in their professional skill and work ethic, and in the administrative process is of the highest standard. One last thing: as it is winter, Leo suggested to wait with activating the AC until spring (March). At that time, a team member will come by to do the hook-up and to make sure the AC works properly, and to check whether everything that has been done during the week in December is in order. Needless to say that I am simply very happy to have them come to my just before both Christmas and Easter!"

"I called Joe twice. First I hired him to change the fixtures of my shower. The shower is old so it wasn't something I could do. He did a great job. The guy's a master plumber, licensed and all. Second, about a month later I had a leak and water leaking from the shower arm into my wall. I called JOE and he showed up an hour later and fixed it! As always, this was not a simple job due to the fact it's an old bathroom but Joe got it done. Quality work with exceptionally reasonable prices from a master plumber. Nice guy too. I'll be calling again for all my issues."

"Overall the job went pretty smoothly and the finished product looks great. I worked with Jane, from Superior, to remodel our primary bathroom. We knew what we wanted and everything was pretty straight forward so the process went well. The part I liked best was that they were a small business run by a husband and wife team who did all of the work themselves. Also they said they would work with us if we wanted to purchase our own fixtures. I have a relative in the bathroom fixture business so I had already picked out a tub and vanity that I wanted. I was also able to get the granite for the counters through that same relative. The only reason that they got a B rating was that a few minor issues cropped up and I think some of them were due to the fact that they were a little overwhelmed with the amount of work they had. I was the last job they took on and they were not even giving quotes for a few months because they were so booked. Also, Jane and Brendon were in the middle of moving their own home when they started my job so I think that distracted them as well.
From the onset of the job I could tell that Superior would be good to work with.  Jane, the owner, took care of the whole quotation process and was pretty detail oriented. Once the job was started things went fairly well. We had a issues but nothing huge. I had an entire wall that was mirrored that I did not intend to replace but it was broken during the tear out of the old cabinets and granite counters. Unfortunately that snow balled into having to skim coat that wall and replace the mirror and light fixture which was a part of the mirror. Then they found some rot issues in the tub area which was not completely unexpected, but Brendon, Jane's husband, was the lead carpenter so he fixed the problem.  Greg, their tile guy was awesome, he did a great job with the tile design and layout. Once he got all of the tile done and the bathroom was almost complete a few little things still were not done and I didn't know what the schedule was to complete the job.  The tiling was done and the bathroom looked great and worked, but some of the finish items still needed to be completed.
I contacted Jane because 2 days had passed  and I wasn't sure if I could use the bathroom. I wasn't sure if the grout had been sealed or even when they would be coming back to finish. This was not a big deal because I assumed we were just waiting for the grout to dry. Since the hardboard was still down in the hallway I knew they were not finished yet but I was looking to find out when they would be done. The new mirror had not be hung, the baseboard tile was not installed nor was the shower rod. At this point, Jane told me that they were not expecting to do the baseboard in tile but if I wanted them to do it  that would be an extra charge. I told her that I assumed it was included with the tile job because they had removed a tile baseboard that was there originally. I also pointed out  there was no mention of a tile baseboard in the quotation even as an extra item that could be added so obviously I thought it was included. We came to a compromise and the baseboard was done. During the time between getting the baseboard finished and the tile sealed I started to notice mold on the grout between the tub and the shower (it was only about week ). I called Jane again and Brendon came out to remove the caulking and replace it with silicone caulk. Sadly, Brendon put a gouge in the tub while removing the caulk and he had to have someone come out and repair the tub. Brendon was also the one that installed the baseboard tile which I noticed did not match the floor tile. I showed Brendon the difference between the 2 tiles (the floor tile is a mottled rustic look and the baseboard tile that Brendon installed is a smooth finish. When I originally picked out the tile there were 2 very similar tiles one with a smooth finish and one with the rustic finish) and he said he would talk to Jane about it. The colors of the 2 tiles are very similar but if you look at them you can tell they are 2 different tiles. I never heard from Jane about the issue so I finally called her.  I was just a little disappointed that no one bothered to tell me if they even checked with the tile supplier to see which one was purchased and installed. After I explained the difference to her and said that I was "alright" not pulling it up because no one would notice unless they looked closely at the 2 tiles it still would have been nice to know whether or not the correct tile was installed.
fix the issue. I just have to say that it seemed like a lot of little issues cropped up but I would definitely use them again.

"All three jobs went great. For the water heater replacement Lewis came to my house at a convenient time for me, removed the heater changed out the rotted pipes and installed a new one with warranty. The price was great too. This job was time sensitive and he made me a priority to get it done. For the bathroom tub drain unclog he was very professional and did a great job. My garbage disposal was leaking and I came home to a pool of water in my cabinet and on the floor. Lewis came out quickly to resolve the issue for me. He replaced everything under the sink and showed me what he was doing each step of the way. I think that he is a great plumber if you want to get quality work and learn about each job too."

FAQs for water main install, replace or repair projects in Cohasset, MA

If you notice puddles or standing water in your yard, a sudden drop in water pressure, cracks forming in your foundation, frequent clogs in your plumbing fixtures, or water that looks or smells unusual, you might have a leak in your main water line. These signs mean it's time to call a professional to evaluate the issue and prevent further damage.

A professional water main inspection is a comprehensive evaluation performed by a licensed plumber who checks every section of your plumbing system. The inspection costs $165 and uses advanced diagnostic techniques to identify hidden leaks or wear. This service clarifies the exact condition of your water main, enabling precise repairs that prevent future damage and ensure the overall health of your plumbing system.

Protect your water main by scheduling a cleaning and inspection every two to five years. The average cost of a sewer line cleaning is $400. It’s also important to never dig in your yard without first calling the dig line (811) to ensure you don't accidentally hit the water or sewer lines. Watch for soil erosion, low water pressure, or wet spots in your yard, and take immediate action if you suspect a leak. Remember, the longer you leave it, the worse the problem gets and the more costly it is to fix.

When properly maintained, your water main is engineered to remain functional for 50 years or longer. A durable water service in excellent condition should consistently perform without major issues for half a century. In contrast, metal pipes exposed to acidic soil corrode faster, whereas modern plastic pipes resist corrosion and function for decades beyond metal alternatives. Regular maintenance and inspections are essential for confirming your system’s longevity.

No, homeowners insurance does not cover the cost to repair a water main. Insurers fund only sudden, unforeseen events like a burst pipe and exclude gradual issues or normal wear and tear. Damage resulting from leaks, such as mold remediation or property claims, is not covered. It is essential to contact your insurance provider immediately to confirm your policy’s details and any potential adjustments needed.
