He offered to come out Sunday morning, which was definitely unexpected given the weather. Within an hour or so, he had completely dismantled my dryer, assessed the cause of the loud thumping (from my prior research on YouTube, I guessed it was going to be a roller, or maybe the belt, but after watching a video or two, I definitely knew it wasn't something I wanted to tackle personally), and installed a new roller. While the machine was open, he cleaned and lubricated the entire thing before reassembling. My dryer now happily hums again and works perfectly.
