"Brian came over to give us an estimate. He’s very friendly and polite, easy to work with. Answered all our questions and gave his recommendation without being pushy. Later we spoke with the owner, Dave, on the phone, who accommodated all our needs, gave us a great deal and upgraded our system with a medical grade filter at no extra cost. Pedro and his crew did the installation within a day. They were on time, worked fast, were super courteous, and cleaned everything up at the end. All in all everyone was very efficient. I was very pleased with their job and would hire them again without hesitation."

"Excellent customer service. Made two systems operate and gave important knowledge of the future life of these 15 or more year old systems and how they will need to be repaired or likely replacement once the new environmental laws on Freon goes into effect in 2020"

"Emilio arrived on time on the appointed day, inspected and assessed the outdoor unit, the lines and the indoor unit, and determined they could do the job as Darrow had described. We also asked if they could install an attic fan, as that had never been done, and we hoped it would keep the top floor cooler. After a phone call with Darrow and checking his credentials online, we settled on a price of $4,650. A couple of days later, Emilio arrived with a helper, and Darrow arrived with the new equipment. They completed the work in one day, were very neat and respectful of the house and the outdoor space, took away the old equipment and even flattened the boxes for recycling. Settling up with Darrow was easy. It was a total pleasure to deal with Darrow Mirsky and his team. He has a personal style that is just like if your brother-in-law (the one you like!) had all this knowledge and was taking care of this for you. Great customer service, and an excellent value for the cost of the work they performed! The new unit is working beautifully and we are happily cool now :) I would call them for service, and call them again if any other problems arise, and am confident now that we have a trustworthy AC contractor."

"It was easy to schedule the original consultation on their webpage, and Michael did a great job examining my house and explaining the work that would be done. The price was considerably less than the previous quote that I received, so I accepted it. The technicians installed the system over two days. The new low-profile condenser on my back patio doesn't take up much space, and it's a lot quieter than most that I've heard at other houses. There was an issue with the exhaust pipes and safety switch in the attic that required them to come out and make corrections a couple weeks after installation, but they corrected the issue promptly, and since then I've been enjoying my cooler house. Michael, Juan, and the others were very responsive and professional, and they didn't make any mess inside my house as the installation was done. They're definitely worth talking to if you need to add central air conditioning."

"The service went great. One technician came out and completed the job in about 30 minutes to an hour. The vents had not been cleaned in about 20 years and really needed it.  They were very direct and did what I needed. I had no problem scheduling the deal."

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Hawthorne, CA

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
