"Amazing. Crew arrived on time, "isolated" the area of work with floor and wall coverings, worked steadily with no intrusion to me or my time, finished, cleaned up and asked for my opinion/approval. Excellent work, very professional and courteous. This project required some knowledge/expertise as it was being done on a 90 year old home and involved lathe and plaster and sheetrock both. Once complete, the only evidence they had been there was the ceiling patch was done! Would recommend them to any and all needing drywall work."

"A Fresh Coat Painting did our home office in Venetian plaster and the results are striking.  Such a beautiful job and they were great in taking time to help us define what we wanted and then doing such a professional job.  I would highly recommend them."

"From the moment we called Steve, he was courteous and respectful. He was on time for our initial appointment. While all the other candidates looked at the job as too cumbersome with wallpaper removal prior to painting, Steve examined the application (1 layer of wallpaper and 1 layer of paint on plaster walls) and had no concerns with the overall job. He emailed the estimate the next day. The first day of work he went out of his way to come by and pick up a key prior to his start time, knowing that we had a very early morning schedule. I was amazed how fast they removed the wallpaper after just one day. The job took the two week time frame he originally estimated. He was accommodating and courteous when we inadvertently set up construction road block, even offering to help it along at an affordable price. He did a great job all around and we will definitely hire him again."

"They did an excellent job. They adhered to my instructions and wishes, right down to the details I'd asked them to do. There were no spills on my carpet or linoleum (there was no furniture in the house at the time), nor on my outside staircase or in the yard. My garbage disposal and sink were not gummed up with dumped paint (as other contractors have done in the past, out of laziness). They were extremely meticulous in masking off everything. In fact, for a 2000sf townhouse, the only spot of overspray was a tiny 1"x2" area on one window (easily scraped off with a razor blade), a phenomenal feat considering all the work they'd done. I will definitely use Absolute Painting again in the future, for my rentals and my own personal residence."

"Although Walt and Chris did not end up doing the work in my bathroom due to the extensiveness of the damage, I have nothing but positive things to say about both of them. They showed the utmost of honesty and integrity in declining the project, knowing that the money I would have spent to have them "repair" the plaster in my bathroom was ultimately just a "band-aid" and not the best use of my resources. They spent over an hour discussing the project with me and assessing the damage (with the hope of moving forward with the work). You could tell that they did not take the decision lightly and did not like to have to inform me that a repair was not the best course of action -- a lesser company would have proceeded and taken my money regardless. They cleaned up all the plaster that crumbled and left my space immaculate. Furthermore, they charged me nothing for their time, despite losing out on a days work as a result. I'll admit, I have never hired people to do interior painting of my home in the past, but I will definitely be hiring them the next time I have work to be done in my home."

FAQs for wallcovering or wallpaper removal projects in Lake Oswego, OR

You can determine your wall type through tactile and visual tests. Start by checking the surface by inserting a thumbtack, feeling the texture, tapping to listen for a hollow sound, and examining cut edges under outlet covers. Drywall feels soft with a hollow sound, while plaster is hard and solid. These checks are especially useful in older homes where plaster is more common.

After removing wallpaper, you can dispose of small amounts in your household trash. However, if you are removing wallpaper from your entire home, you’ll need to contact a waste removal service, rent a dumpster, or arrange a special pick-up with your municipality’s waste service. Wallpaper cannot be recycled, so it is important to keep it separate from the recycling stream to comply with local waste guidelines.

It takes a professional from several hours up to a full day to remove wallpaper from a single room. The removal duration depends on the type of adhesive, the age of the wallpaper, the condition of the wall, and the number of layers present. High ceilings and additional layers increase the time required, as extra care is taken to protect the wall surface while ensuring a complete removal.

Using fabric softener with water is an option for removing wallpaper, but its effectiveness is limited and depends on the type of wallpaper being used. This low-cost method is most effective on modern, less porous wallpaper and may not yield optimal results on vintage or textured varieties. It might also affect wall surface preparation for new coverings if the residue is not completely removed. For stubborn adhesive or textured surfaces, professional solutions are recommended to ensure a thorough removal without damaging the underlying wall.
