"In 2017, the water table under our house increased. Our finished basement flooded. I contacted several places, most were unresponsive or had a big sales pitches but couldn't get to it for months. Then Absolutely Dry Basement and Waterproofing called back. They told me what needed to be done and I said go. They put in new drain tile throughout the basement and a sump pump. The price was reasonable. I waited for big rains before posting this review. We had several this year and my basement is absolutely dry. Outstanding company."

"We chose Twaddle Plumbing because of the cost and the customer service. The cost was amazing; he was really willing to work with us. We wanted to do as much as we could ourselves and so he came out and marked the floor where we could dig out and move the basement for ourselves. He gave us an estimate for everything but he broke down the estimate for us based on what he actually had to do. He was available very quickly as well. I could make a phone call and he was there the next day. He completed the service on time. He was nice and clean. I would recommend them to anybody and I already have my in-laws use them as well. We would definitely use them again in the future. <br />"

"They are not so great. They did a lot of work to find out the problem with water level but could not find a solution for it. Eventually, I found out what was causing it. They also installed a new sump pump and left without plugging it in. They could pay much more attention to detail."

"Provider was prompt, professional and friendly.  Arrived at the agreed upon time for a free estimate and performed work same-day after we agreed to the price.  He stuck to the price despite taking longer than expected and more work than usual due to worn-rusted pipes in my home.  Cleaned-up after himself and left no sign that work was done other than our new, working toilets.  We are very pleased and reccomend McDonagh & Sons Plumbing & Sewer Inc. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"They were fantastic! It was on a Sunday afternoon and they arrived within an hour of making the call. Because it was a weekend, they didn’t have all the parts in the truck. The service tech had to make 4 trips to Lowes and still only billed me for one hour of labor, because he said it wasn’t my fault he didn’t have the parts."

"The visit went well they are kind and went to work immediately. They took al measures possible to ensure that they would not get the house dirty, which they made very obvious through the use of gloves and booties when they were upstairs. The clog was 150 feet into the pipe at an elbow and even though they broke 400 Dollars worth Of cable they kept trying to get the clog. They ended up braking the cable in the pipe due to the decreped condition of my pipes. At 1:30 am we called it a night for the next three days they heroically fought to retrieve the cable without digging in the lawn or driveway. On the third day they succeeded by going deep into the city sewer to retrieve the auger and saved my drive way, and me. I though the worst, as in my bill would be astronomical. Nope, the owner of this fairly large company called me personally and we worked out a price. He charged me for the original call only what a great end to a horrifying problem they fixed everything. They get an A. <br />"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Monmouth, IL

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
