"We had Brandon C, Franklin B and Gabriel W come out and fix our basement wall that was leaning in. They did a great job! Very professional, on time, cleaned up after themselves and did it in one day! Would recommend them to anyone!"

"<p>the porch was raised approximately 2", which is fine.   I was also led to believe the gap between the porch and the home which had developed as a result of the porch settling would be closed as the porch was raised (and rotated back toward the house).  The gap was not closed, which was my primary reason for contracting the work.  While I have to believe that the porch is now completely stable based on the helical piers, the aesthetics were not improved.  Furthermore, when I returned home, the gap had now been filled with a caulk (about 2" wide) across the entire length of my porch.  Unfortunately, whoever put applied the caulk did an extremely poor job.  After a $9000 job, I now have to have someone else come out to meticulously remove the caulk and reapply in it in congruent and professional manner.  When I questioned John about this, he said "Well, caulking is not our forte'".  If it is not their forte, why did they do this?  I did not ask him to do it nor was it a part of our agreement.</p> <p><br></p> <p>What was further irritating, after they completed the job at approximately 4pm on a Tuesday, I rec'd a call at 8am Wednesday morning demanding payment of the balance of the bill.  When I let the admin know that I was about ready to get in a cab to the airport, she got nasty and said "The Contract states that full payment is due upon completion!".  While that is technically true, it wasn't more than 16 hours after the fact.  Understandably, this left a bad taste in my mouth and feel that the professionalism and courtesy that drew me to RamJack was dissolved as soon as $$ was in the picture.  For the record, I provided her my credit card number and paid them during the phone call.</p> <p>In the end, I'm not sure whether another firm would have 'closed the gap' or not, but the point is that John all-but-promised me that it would be closed.  I of course didn't anticipate it being flush with the house once more, but certainly expected some progress and I would not have expected a botched caulk job to cover it up.</p> <p>I am neutral on my rating, but the test of time will determine whether they stabilized the porch.</p> <p><br></p> <p><br></p> <p><br></p>"

"After having 3 other companies come out and look and attempting to work with our home warranty company for two weeks. Justin from Baker and Sons, came out gave me a diagnosis and was able to cap the active leak under the house the first visit. <br /> Baker and Sons understood we needed this fixed fast and rearranged their work load to be able to fix the terrible hodge podge of garden hose, copper and cpvc under the house immediately due to the extensive water damage from a leaking waterline when all the other companies were looking at 1-2 weeks wait. <br /> Every step of the way they consulted and showed photos of what was wrong and then showed photos of the new work they did. Justin provided a detailed line item estimate. The work took 3.5 days to complete and came in on costs except for the additional new faucets I had installed. <br /> Never once did Justin say he could not do what I wanted or that something was too hard and this house was a mess and very hard to fix and update. He was always courteous and kept me informed of his progress and any unexpected obstacles that slowed progress specifically a cement slab that was under part of the house. <br /> All piping and work was done efficiently as could be done and the resulting look was clean and professional. <br /> Baker and Sons keeps their trucks fully stocked for any emergency so they can repair the problem immediately. No excuses or running back and forth to the store for materials and parts. <br /> They did an amazing retrofit on a house almost 100 years old and we now have current up to code copper pipes throughout the house just like a brand new construction. We have new faucets and will have new appliances and will not have to worry that the pipes and drains can accommodate the water needs. <br /> I am a VERY demanding and picky person and Baker and Sons met and exceeded every expectation I had. All questions and concerns were politely and professionally addressed. Before any extra expense was incurred I was called and the options were discussed in detail so I felt all decisions were made by me and I was fully educated and informed about the change. <br /> If you need it done now and you want it done right call Baker and Sons. I am so happy I did and will recommend them to all my friends and neighbors. <br />"

"On SUNDAY, January 13, 2013 I called Blankenship Plumbing to pump our flooded basement.  Within one hour he arrived and assessed the problem.  The water was so deep he had to leave a pump running for 24 hours to pump out enough water for him to find the drain.  The next day he snaked the toilet and the drain in the basement.  The clog wouldn't budge.  He brought a backhoe and dug up our side yard.  He found our drain pipes were infiltrated with tree roots.  He dug up the old pipes and replaced them with new pipes.  He was very conscientious during the service calls by keeping us updated about what he was doing and what his next steps were.  He took it upon himself to call the city's water department to come out and try to dislodge the clog. <br />"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Murphysboro, IL

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
