"Sophie refinished 8 pieces for me. One piece was from the 1940â s, four pieces were from the 1950â s, one piece was from the 1960â s and the other two were from the 1970â s and they all look gorgeous! She took her time refinishing the pieces and sent me pictures throughout the entire process. I plan on using her again in the near future. I would recommend her work to anyone."

"Richard was incredible to work with. His customer service was outstanding and he is an expert of his craft. He is a true professional. He refinished an entire antique bedroom set that was in very rough condition. After only about a week he completely transformed our furniture. Seriously it all came out beautiful! His attention to detail was like nothing I've seen. The wood was beautiful and the finish immaculate! Richard is a great communicator and was very clear over what to expect, when to expect it, and gave lots of updates about his progress. His prices were very reasonable and his turn around time was impressive.. If you are on the fence about who to trust with your precious antique furniture then Richard with Generations Furniture Restoration should be your first choice!"

"My dining room table had worn areas around the entire table after a friend resized it to fit in our new smaller home. The worn areas really bothered me. Southern Woodworks had been strongly recommended by several people in our neighborhood. I am thrilled with the refinishing of our table. It is beautiful."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Nashville, TN

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
